Plaza Mexican Bar & Grill

Plaza Mexican is a popular Mexican restaurant located in the heart of State College, Pennsylvania. The restaurant is known for its authentic Mexican food and its friendly, family-oriented atmosphere.

I recently had the opportunity to try Plaza Mexican for the first time, and I was very impressed with the food. I started with the street corn which is perfect for the summer and covered in butter and cheese For my main course, I had the mole enchiladas, which were perfectly cooked and served with a generous amount of flavorful mole sauce. I also had a side of the rice, which was cooked to perfection and seasoned with just the right amount of spice.

While I didn't have any margaritas they looked amazing and HUGE!!!! A table next to us ordered at least two rounds so they definitely gave them a thumbs up.

Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Plaza Mexican. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely recommend Plaza Mexican to anyone looking for a great Mexican meal in State College.

We love the complimentary chips and salsa. I got a secret dish of the eggs and chorizo and it was very good. My husband got the shrimp tacos. The food is always great here.

I heard a lot about this place and was able to try one time. The food was amazing. For App, I'd love and recommend ordering the chips and queso sauce. The in-house spicy sauce too (I'm Asian and so my spicy tolerance is high, but feel free to try/not try this).

This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The Pina Loka is my new, absolutely favorite. It has steak, chicken 🐔, peppers, onions, and pineapple 🍍. All served inside of a half pineapple 🍍 😋!!!! Yummy!! The presentation did not disappoint. Plaza Mexican Bar & Grill always has the best Margaritas. I will be going back soon. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Arriving in State College a touch late for dinner (most places close around 9), we were welcomed without hesitation 15 minutes before seating ended at ten. Menu includes the classics as well as some more traditional dishes. Food was prepared quickly, service was friendly and swift, and the food was great. We all enjoyed our meals and can recommend it! The bar area was a touch loud - to be expected in a college town. Have fun!

Holy cow.. this place is amazing! I'm so impressed! We had spent most of the day at Penns Caverns, and our drive back to the Raystown Lake area took us through State College. I've been past the restaurant dozens of times when in town and always wanted to stop, so today was the day.

The first wow factor was the salsa, which was fresh, zesty, balanced, and a myriad of other adjectives. I could have it as all three courses and then save room for it for dessert. It's that damn good. A great salsa is crucial, and they nailed it.

The Beer-rita and Tropical Margarita were massive and refreshing. We landed on these after reading through the extensive drink menu that had something for any taste; from margaritas to shots to mules and more.

It was honestly hard to pick an entree because the menu was so unique. A variety ranging from traditional fare to more epicurean takes. Tacos were the choice, Baja Fish and the Mayan Tacos.

The Baja fish tacos were simple yet big on flavor. Perfectly battered fried fish, crispy cabbage, and a simple aioli made for a comforting plate of tacos.

The Mayan Tacos had a combination of grilled shrimp, grilled octopus, and ground chorizo. These three little white corn tortilla wrapped masterpieces were topped with shredded cabbage as well for a satisfying crunch. The shrimp and octopus were out of control; perfectly seasoned, and masterfully grilled. These tacos will live forever in my dreams.

Can't wait to come back and try something else, maybe the Molcajete???

Always lively and amazing. Food always comes out faster than expected considering the crowd that they usually have. I love the birria tacos the most and am never disappointed by them or their fresh tableside guacamole. Staff is always so friendly and responsive, despite always being busy.

It’s hard to center on just one good thing about this place. Easily the best restaurant in the entire area by a large stretch. Everything from the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave it’s a great experience. My favorite meal on the menu is the Carnitas Dinner, but you can’t go wrong with anything. It’s everything you want in an authentic Mexican experience and then some. Their margaritas are super boozy and delicious, which compliments the food tremendously. Hector is the General Manager and he is the nicest man I’ve ever encountered in food service. He loves talking to every guest and making sure each need is met with the highest regard. I feel like he remembers everyone that walks through the door. My wife and I always sit at the bar because Christian is the best bartender. He’s quick, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. He knows what we like to drink each time and always finds time to chit chat, while running circles around everyone. You can tell how much everyone in the area loves this place by evidence of the constant lines outside the door.

Great food! Great flavor! A bit of a language barrier with our server as we had a difficult time understanding as he did us too. But all in all delicious. Even fast service after a PSU Football game!

Best service in State College hands down. Traditional Mexican food with tasteful cocktails. Nice, clean restaurant.

It was a super busy night, but my friend and I didnt feel too crowded. Our server checked on us frequently despite how busy it was as well, thank you for being so attentive Biniza! And a couple of gentlemen held open the doors for us which is always a nice bonus 😂

Great food, delicious drinks and friendly, speedy service! You really can't ask for anything more when dining out. This is one of the best places to eat in State College.

Stopped in here one night after work. Easily became a top 5 or top 3 Mexican restaurant I've been to! Drinks, chips, queso, tacos, were all great items. Highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area.

We had an excellent experience at this restaurant. The food was very good. The staff was also very friendly and our food came out very quickly. There was a fun, positive energy and the staff worked so hard. We thought the salsa was amazing. Highly recommend!

First experience and it was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, all around great experience. Enchiladas were cooked perfectly, service was on point and the owner even came to our table to ask how everything was. By far the best Mexican food in state college. Can’t wait to go back when I’m in town.

I am originally from the Southwest where there is an abundance of Mexican Restaurants. We had been living in the Pacific Northwest for the past 12-years and moved to Central PA over a year ago. I have always wanted to try this place out, and when I found out that they had vegetarian options, I knew I had to finally try it out! Let me first say, I was NOT disappointed! I had the chimichangas with cheese and vegan meat. They were absolutely delicious. The rice and beans were also some of the tastiest I've had in a while! We decided to splurge and have the table-side guacamole. Totally worth it! The server came over with her little cart, peeled the avocado and added all the ingredients and gave it a mashing! It was amazing! The drinks were also very good and the service was excellent. Like other have mentioned, it does seem to get a little loud. But for me, it was just like being back at home with my loud-mouthed relatives enjoying good food, good company and great conversation! We even took home carnitas for my Mother-in-Law and she absolutely loved it! We will most definitely be coming back here again! So happy that we found this place!
