Merritt's Family Restaurant

Our wait for the food felt a little long but it was not unreasonable. The food itself was very, very good and the portions are large. Everything tasted good even after we were full. The staff was also friendly. We would love to come here again.

I had Two Eggs, Ham, Hash browns & Sourdough toast with Coffee. My husband had the Chuckwagon Omelette with hash browns, wheat toast and coffee. The food was so good! Everyone was friendly and very attentive. I would definitely eat here again!

You won’t be hungry when you leave here, and they’re easy on your wallet. Great chicken fried steak. The scones are different than I have had before- I would describe them more like a fry bread than a scone. They were crispy, and fluffy inside, with a nice flavor. A definite must try when you visit.

Went in for the first time with family (01/28/2023) who has been in before, and was pleasantly surprised.

Do not judge a book by its cover, the outside signage would make a person hesitate or make one not even remember this place when driving by. Which is totally a bummer!

This history of this place is so fun, and the stories one could hear while eating here; heartwarming.

Had an older gentleman speaking to each table near him about how long he has been coming here only to have a college student share the same kind of story and he passes this place along by bringing a friend who is moving away here as his sort of send off. (He doesn't even use a menu.)

The atmosphere is a simple easy going kind of feel.

The scones I'd say are a must try, they are light and fluffy with lots of topping options. We kept it simple with cinnamon and sugar.

I order a half salad (not pictured) and it was still sharable size! So good though, not complaining.

I cannot wait to return.

This was one of those breakfasts that you talk about when chatting about the best diners ever visited. The service was exceptional and I will make a point to go back next time I'm in Boise.

The Dutch baby scones are to die for. The club sandwich is unique and delicious. The milkshakes are generous. The staff are helpful and friendly.. Yes it is the divest dive joint you have ever been to! Yes when you pull into the parking lot you will wonder if you are in a sketchy place. They have been in business forever and it shows but they are fabulous.

Found this place on line, really wanted to try it and was not disappointed.
My wife and I shared a giant pancake and one of the famous Dutch babies which was plenty. The Dutch babies are as good as everyone had said. We ordered another to take out for the folks at home.
Also enjoyed the Duke box. 3 tracks for a dollar.

I wish we’d tried Merritt’s sooner. We came in for scones for the first time this week, and the service was so friendly and the scones were phenomenal. Thanks for taking such good care of us, Merritt’s!

If you want the best scones in the Boise area you have to come here. They are well worth your time. They are DELICIOUS and the staff are really friendly and considerate. What more do you need GOOD FOOD AND NICE PEOPLE. We got the blueberry and the cherry scones. DELICIOUS

There is a reason that Merritt’s has been around so long. Their scones are amazing and the honey butter is the best I’ve ever had.

You can't get better food anywhere else! 49 years is a accomplishment only a few could make! Great job fam!

The same server has been there for years... yet she still loves her job. She is so funny and lovable. She makes the already good food taste even better. 5 stars!

This is one of my go to places anytime I'm in Boise.
Their scones are the best on the planet. Some people may call them elephant ears, etc...
My favorite are the powder sugar ones with lemon squeezed on it.
I'm drooling just thinking about it.
They are a small business and they might be a bit slow. Just get another cup of coffee and chill. It's worth the wait!

This is an updated review as I went for the 3rd time. It is a local diner with regulars, families and all groups alike.. these last few times I ordered actual food 4 stars cause the scones are !!! The food itself 3 stars, really couldn't get behind it. The corn had no taste except from a can, mashed potatoes were almost cold. If you want to experience this place order the scones!!! They never disappoint.

Love Merritt's. If you want some good cookin without all the mumbo jumbo, this local place is your go to. I always enjoy the scones! They are so good. The staff is friendly, your coffee cup will always be full and your food is always fresh and hot.

Merritt's doesn't disappoint. Remember this place from teen years late nights with friends. Sharing it now with my daughter. We LOVED the scones. Friendly personal service and most excellent diner food.

Love, Love Merritt's! After 10+yrs i finally returned and took my mom(first time). She loved it (esp the scones)! Forgot to take pics before taking a couple bites. Anyways yes, amazing food, awesome service and good prices. Hasn't changed since I was a kid and that's rare. So a BIG Thank You to them for that!

It's a dive which is an atmosphere and it's the kind. I enjoy because I can guarantee that their food is absolutely amazing and delicious. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't break the bank, Or whatever that expression is. I have been going to Merritts since I was nineteen approximately, They were open 24 hours a day except obviously holidays and the back and those days you could still smoke in there Plus it wasn't divided initially by a smoking section or a non-smoking section.
Eventually they did partition of part of it but they used to lattice To Do so for the smokers area which was super funny and as a smoker I really enjoyed that about them.
The 24 hour is and being able to change smoke cigarettes while consuming copious amounts of black coffee and eating basket after basket of their batter. Dipped mushrooms which by the way if you haven't had them? You need them unless you're allergic I guess seriously though get them they're so good! But way back then My friends and I would all go gather there And to get funnel cakes coffee sodas whatever milkshakes milk shakes dude try the milk shakes.... And batter dip mushrooms for the whole table And we would just sit for hours playing songs on the jukebox. Seriously we'd pull all-nighters there ALL THE TIME!

Food is fresh, and of course, their scones are delicious! Staff is always so welcoming and checking back to make sure you get what you need. They even look at the small details about my order and I don't even have to ask!
They're open late till midnight, which is how I started coming in more often for scones as a late night weekend snack!
