Backyard Ale House

This was an excellent stop for dinner on a Monday evening. The beer selection is extensive, both draft and bottled. I had the cheese steak sandwich. The roll was amazing. Toasted to perfection. The balance of steak, cheese, grilled mushrooms and onions was perfect. The sandwich was not soggy- either with grease or cheese so it held up well. My husband had the Just a burger. He thought the burger was excellent. Again, the bread was perfect and not soggy. We shared an order of fries. Also very good.

Overall an excellent Ale house.

Very chill environment, staff was very attentive and kind. We had the ribs, and they were delicious, highly recommend. Best ribs I've had in a LONG time.

Nice friendly bar/restaurant.very clean and spacious.nice outdoor area also.drinks were awesome.the pulled pork sandwich was delicious.prices are great and service was even better

Wow! What a Gem. Everything from the friendly, outgoing service to the clean, fun, open space environment. Prepare your taste buds because your pallette with not be disappointed. Large selection of beers to pair any food on the menu. Great price. Good quality and quantity of food. Live music playing. We cannot wait to come back.

Stopped here while visiting Scranton. Best choice ever. We had the BBQ Sampler, sweet fries and onion rings. The meat was SO tender, juicy and tasty! Rates a '10' on our list of fav restaurants. Bravo BAH!

Very good food. Huge selection of beers and drinks. Chili was very flavorful. I got the Brisket sammie with the homemade chips. I highly recommended the chips as a side. Awesome food, good smoke on the meats as well!!!

Nice casual place. Great draft bet selection, and some of the best barbecue I've ever eaten.

A perfect American pub. Great food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere—all around win. Get the sampler, it’s a great display of their skill. The smoked wings are fabulous. The sauce is delicious, and that’s coming from someone who usually dislikes bbq sauce—sweetness and meat (or any meal foods, really) are generally losers in my book, but this sauce was savory with just enough heat to charm you. I wish I could buy it in the store. And I’ve never been such a lover of cornbread to ask for more, but I had to order two pieces to take home with me for dessert because it was that good.

Such a fun surprise to find this place on our road trip to Maine! Looking for good vibes and outdoor dining. The staff went out of their way to take care of us and make recommendations for food and beer! The patio was really chill .. covered seating yet allowed for nice breeze to blow. Jerk chicken Sammy was yummy and didn’t disappoint.. a great compliment to the ballast point beer! My husband had the Nashville chicken sandwich which he said had a
“good kick “! Would definitely recommend if you’re in Scranton!

Great selection of beer and great bar food. Huge portions won’t leave you hungry. Staff was super attentive and made for a fun time even with Covid restrictions. Look forward to going back for another beer! Consider it for your next low key night out or chill afternoon with friends.

Ok now for the real reason, the beers are picked from all over. They have 25+ taps. With a healthy diversity of selections. I really enjoyed the wheat/ fruity beers such as the:

Breckinridge- Avalanche Amber
Great Lakes- Crush Worthy Watermelon

Backyard Ale House is hands down one of my favorite places to dine when I'm in downtown Scranton. From the Salmon Gyros to Fresh Cut Fries to more than 99 bottles of beer on the wall The Backyard Ale House never fails. A great place for a first date, a place to grab a bite to eat, a place to relax or to do business, you can't go wrong while hanging out in this establishment, The Backyard Ale House has a diverse menu, beer samplers, a backyard to hang out in, and an awesome staff to accommodate you while you visit. If you're in downtown Scranton run in quick and check it out you won't be disappointed.

We went here with my parents to celebrate my son's birthday. We ordered the smoker sampler and the Bavarian pretzels as our starters. The ribs were some of the best we ever had extremely tender and delicious. The wings were very smoky and flavorful. I ordered the surf and turf grilled cheese, my son ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich, my father ordered the cowboy burger and my mother ordered the steak Flatbread. Everyone's food was fresh and hot and we all loved what we got. Our waitress was Sherry and she was excellent. Very friendly and got everyone's orders correct by memory. Highly recommended.

Love this place. 1 of my favorite hot sauces, Knomes Nightmare.

The smoked wings were a nice match up with the perfectly made cosmopolitan. The staff are always friendly and engaging...

Stopped in on a Thursday night . Ordered perogies poutine with braised short rib on top. One of the best plates of food that I've ever had. Staff was friendly and draft beer selection was really good.

The backyard patio was a perfect experience! Nice outdoor open seating, bar with cheap and delicious seasonal/draft beers and great food! The staff was quick to seat us, serve us and attend to our table. Great restaurant!

The food is phenomenal. We stumbled upon this place on our drive through town and we couldn’t have gotten luckier. Four of us shared a burger and three sandwiches and each was exceptionally good. Highly recommend the bruschetta sammie, and the special, crab grilled cheese. All very reasonably priced.

First time in Scranton and I’m quite sure I have stumbled on the coolest place in town. Enjoying the outdoor patio bar with many others enjoying the cool summer evening. Great selection of local craft, IPA and international beers on tap and bottles. Great atmosphere inside and a little younger outside. A must stop if you are if you find yourself downtown. Not to mention I might die of a heart attached driving home tonight from the brisket, bacon aioli jam, cheese fries…

If you like BBQ this is the place to go if in Scranton. Food & service was awesome.
