The First Post

We had taken hike near bye and choose the restaurant for our lunch/Dinner after.
We can’t say enough about how good it was.
The place looked amazing,the food was outstanding and the service was exceptional.
Our waitress Heather was so nice and even laugh at my stupid jokes. We live over an hour and half away,but we will be back I can promise you that.

After looking at reviews, we decided on The First Post while visiting York, PA. Fantastic history on this beautiful property that is so tastefully decorated and appointed.

Waiter Erick gave us a brief history of the building and provided stellar service during our visit. This is a great place to sit back, enjoy the setting, have a great meal without feeling rushed.

We opted for the Crab Cake BLT. It was served on a large, thin and crispy English muffin. It was sheer perfection. Order it, believe me, you will be glad you did. Perfectly and artfully prepared, it was hot, fresh and delicious.

Also ordered was the Filet Mignon, served rare. It was also visually very appealing and every bite was mouth watering.

If ever in York, PA., stop in, ask for Erick and enjoy your evening.

Cannot go on enough about this place. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The wait staff was awesome, and the building is charming. Will definitely be back when we are in the area!

Fantastic food and atmosphere. The Gouda Burger was delicious. Incredibly slow but pleasant service. Fortunately, we were not in a hurry.

We've been in the area for years now and this was our first time getting to the First Post. The service was great and the food was good. They have a nice bourbon cocktail menu that stands out. The selected drinks from there were made very well. The food portions were extremely large too.

Food was great, didn't really have a problem other than how long it took for the food to come out. Food was lukewarm, but the building/architecture is amazing. Highly recommend for a casual or a semi-fancy date. Their cream of crab is great and not watered down. Would definitely go again.

First time to the First Post. I was very impressed. The scotch eggs were amazing and all the food was very fresh. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting York for the first time.

I had the wings for an appetizer, and I would recommend those!! If I had only eaten the wings, I would have rated the food a 5.

The meatloaf was okay, nothing special. The mashed potatoes and fries were perfect. I also tried some of the other food at the table and I think they are on par for a 4 star.

Overall, highly recommend for the food, service and atmosphere!!

This place never disappoints. The food is always freshly made, hot and scrumptious. The staff is always nice. Highly recommend.

Excellent service. Excellent atmosphere. Excellent food. I can't say enough good things about this place. The scotch eggs were cooked perfectly, the French onion soup was delicious, and had two large onion rings on top. The sirloin was good exactly as ordered (medium rare) and was seared perfectly. The crab cake was mostly crab, and minimal filler. I really can't complain about anything. I'll definitely be going back.

The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent! You should make reservations to dine here, or you will be waiting. I definitely recommend dining here!

The food was amazing!!! My sister's mother-in-law hosted a catered wedding rehearsal there recently. The hibachi steak was to die for (loved the marinade and tenderness of the steak) and I also thoroughly enjoyed the rolls (I could've eaten them for hours). Though due to allergies, I couldn't try it, the crab soup was a big hit with the others in attendance. The lemon squares were very flavorful and delicious as well. I loved the vintage ambience (we were in a large room upstairs). The service was very prompt and professional. I would love to come back again for a normal dining service whenever I'm back in that area. I'd highly recommend!

Fantastic American food restaurant with exceptional ambiance...service...and atmosphere...great selection of beer and liquor and bartenders that know how to make good drinks...happy hour specials as well...excellent restaurant for a cozy night out with a delicious menu with a variety of food selections...

Sat at the bar with my honey on a rainy afternoon. Full bodied craft brews, delicious chicken satay app. Lots of dark wood and detail. Historic and elegant, yet warm, friendly and affordable.

Nice atmosphere and tasty food to pair! A good place to stop if you're in the York area, especially coming or going through the east part.

Great atmosphere. Super reasonable prices. The scotch eggs were still soft inside which I appreciated vs the super over boiled style. The octopus was fantastic and the Fava paste really pulled it together. Everything was really good and really fair price. Beers were all true to stated styles.

The food was absolutely incredible. We stopped here during a weekend getaway and was pleasantly surprised with the experience. Highly recommend!

We visited The First Post to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we set foot through the door we had a great experience.

Despite being busy (on a Monday night) we were quickly seated.

Shortly after being shown to our seats our waiter came over to inform us of the menu specials and to take our drink and appetizer order.

We ordered some raw oysters as well as the scallop appetizer — both of which were top notch.

Afterwards, we shared a bowl of the cream of crab soup, which was rich, creamy and contained large chunks of crab.

For our entrees, I had the crab cake dinner and my wife had the seafood pasta — both of which we would without a question order again.

And for dessert we had crème brûlée — a favorite of my wife. Bottom line, it was delicious.

We will definitely be back!

First time here today. Had a very good meal. We live 45 minutes away but came on a client's recommendation. Had the Scotch Eggs (superb), crab soup (amazingly creamy), and crab cakes (large and almost no filler). Wife had the Salmon and enjoyed it as well. Even all the sides were good. Will be back!
