South End Cafe and Pastry Shop

Rare is the day I find a place I both want to keep secret so it doesn't get too busy when I visit and yet shout from the rooftops how amazing it is. I just had hands down the best Ham ans Cheese croissant and Macaroon I have every had. These are my go to safe choice items for a Cafe and they went so far above my expectations I cannot wait to come back and try everything else on their menu. Wonderful staff and cozy locals only feel. Worth the trip. Skip the big box coffee shops and stop here!

Always love coming here. We wanted to get a treat after our lunch and knew I wanted something from South End. Their ricotta filling is the best around, so I got a cannoli and my husband got the giant oreo cream puff. Both were delicious!

Have visited multiple times. Staff is friendly. They have good coffee, delicious treats and a clean open space. Bathrooms are available, spacious and well maintained. I would say the coconut macaroons and cupcakes are the best. They sell pastry, cookies, biscuits, cup cakes, cakes, cannoli. Items are priced by the pound and packed in nice boxes so it makes for a great treat to bring for family, coworkers and friends.

I wish it was easier to access from the Berlin turnpike because I would be going there much more often. I had a delicious egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant and a great latte. Lots of yummy looking pastries I'll be trying next time.

South End never disappoints. We generally get 4-6 spinach broccoli potato pies. Usually for our family reunion. And their white pizza. Loved very much by our family they make a great product. We’ve been a customer since they were n Franklin Ave, Hartford.

Hands down the best sfogliatella I've had in decades. It hit so hard it made me miss my grandma. The pastry was exactly as it's supposed to be and the filling's flavor and texture was perfect.

The food here is simply good. Not complicated. Good. Mouth-watering good. Feels like family when you visit! Not to be missed: chocolate crossiants, spinach pie, and a double-decker BLT sandwich that can’t be beat!💫💫💫💫💫

Pleasantly surprised. For a coffee and dessert place primarily the pizza was excellent. I had the pizza slice for a quick lunch and it was delicious. The white slice spinach and sausage and the traditional slice with sauce. Would go back for a slice of pizza again. Many choices of desserts to choose from.

Fabulous pastries. I always get the cheese Danish. The maple walnut coffee cake was an experience everyone should enjoy. The lobster tails or sfogliatella, are amazing too. I don't think they do latte's but my wife loves their coffee. We even asked where they get their coffee beans from and have been buying them exclusively for 2 years now (Sacuzzo: see my review).

My family have been eating at south end since it moved to newington. The food is outstanding and the ambiance is even better. The owners are always friendly and willing to please their customers. I would highly recommend the Southend Cafe and Pastry Shop.

Our first time there - we loved it and will be back. Had the breakfast sandwiches, cannolis and sampled several other pastries while we enjoyed coffees and the white chocolate caramel mocha. All were delicious and we left with treats for later. It is relaxing and the the food brought back family memories. Thank you!!!

Love this place. The bakery is a dream with so.much to choose from. I haven't made my way through everything yet! The people are friendly and it is just a great place to meet and have a cuppa with something delish, too.

Thanks for keeping the traditions before you. My dad (Jamaican) loved that little bakery and frequently stopped there and bought spinach pies years ago when you were on Franklin Avenue. I'm so glad I can continue the tradition of my dad in bringing home the best spinach pies and baked goods. I love your new location and wish you many, many years of success in Newington.

Amazing pastries and coffee. Worth a trip trip from anywhere.

On a recent "Lent/ Meat free" Friday, my husband and I stopped here for their world famous Anchovie Pizza. We were disappointed that, since their move from South end of Hartford, to Newington, they are in a "non- compete" strip mall near a pizza restaurant... they can no longer offer any kind of pizza. We settled for a spinach and potato filled bread. The Cafe owner offered to warm it up for us, then proceeded to slice, plate
and serve it to us, along with a beverage! Talk about great service!! Of course we HAD to buy a few of the delicious looking Italian pastries for dessert! A def 5 out of 5 for us!!👍

Had a good egg and cheese croissant sandwich here and there was a nice selection of Italian baked goods to choose from. This is a quiet and chill spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch at.

Love that I can call ahead my order and pick it up. We typically order breakfast sandwiches but occasionally order desserts. Everything is always AMAZINGLY delicious and we dream about breakfast sandwiches on the weekends.
