Take the Cake

I ordered a three tier chocolate wedding cake with ganache and inside had chocolate mousse. This was one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever had and I am a huge fan of chocolate! It was very smooth. You can tell that there were all natural ingredients as they advertised. I also like that the cake wasn’t too sweet. Not only was it delicious, it was gorgeous too. I sent a photo as inspiration and asked for adjustments. They did not disappoint. I cannot thank Take The Cake enough! The cake was a hit.

We have been ordering cakes for all occasions. May is crazy busy month for us and we always order two to three cakes just in this month. When I called to here that they were temporarily closed with no reopening date; I was so upset. Hope they come back soon.

Such an amazing family owned bakery right down the road of bill millers castle where we got married. They did such a beautiful job on our wedding cake and made it just the way we envisioned it! The cake was moist and the strawberries were extremely fresh! Everything they make always comes out beautiful! So happy they made our cake for our big day!

A cute family owned bakery with a hardworking staff. Everyone is super friendly and the desserts and so delicious!! If you’re a big carrot cake lover, I suggest trying that cake! They have a huge selection of cakes and small treats available that you can choose from in advance or if you’re planning a party last minute. They currently have a Covid friendly pick up window set up to ensure the safety of their employees and customers. Highly suggest getting your next cake from them and look at how delicious their linzertortes are!

LOVE the cakes! I’ve been coming here for years! Gina puts so much love into her cakes/baked goods. Gina is such a beautiful soul! The cakes are smooth and moist, the icing is heavenly!

I stopped at Take the Cake on the recommendation of numerous friends. I purchased the Chocolate Raspberry cake and three varieties of cookies for a birthday party for my lady friend. The cake and cookies were divine. Everyone raved about them! Thank you!

My wife and I am sad to see the less than stellar reviews but our experience has been nothing but exceptional in our ten+ years as customers. We've tried all their cakes but are hooked on the Purcell. In our experience, these are the best cake bakers in Connecticut. Their scones and cookies are delicious too.

I ordered cheesecakes for my wedding and Gina was absolutely fantastic to work with. Bonus - the cheesecakes were delicious! I can't stop thinking about how good it was, possibly best cheesecake I've ever had. Gina was flexible and worked with me to make my idea work within the food safety guidelines in place for COVID. The pies were pre-sliced and put in individual boxes and topped with a variety of tasty toppings. Did I mention how tasty?! And Gina even accommodated an extra chocolate cake for my Grandma's birthday that I added at the last minute. I'm so glad Take the Cake was recommended to me, and can't wait for an opportunity to go back!

Incredible cakes!! Used them for our wedding in 2016 get a cake from them every anniversary we celebrate!! Got a Valentines cake and are loving it!! The 6 cakes have never been anything short of amazing!!

I love cakes - and I am as picky as they come. I prefer organic ingredients, but can be happy with cakes made from wholesome, conventional ingredients as well. I have never bought a grocery store cake for my family.

I've tried the French bakery in New Haven - meh. All style but cakes were dry and not sweet enough. There are some local cupcake places in Hamden and New Haven... they are just okay. I have been searching for a decent cake place for nearly 3 years with no luck.... until now.

THIS place however, Take the Cake on the Post Rd just outside of Guilford, is exceptional. The prices are reasonable for what you get. (A whole foods cake of the same size but with half the flavor and none of the elegance is only about 20% less).

I just stopped in there on a whim - having seen the shop from the road. After speaking with the folks working (one may have been the owner/ baker), and learning about the quality of ingredients used, I decided I had found my cake shop. I bought a Purcell Torte and an Italian Pistachio Chocolate Torte and both are AMAZING! The pistachio was just for dessert after the family dinner that night. It was light, flavorful, and the bits of Italian cherries were little exquisite bites of happiness. The Purcell was for my husband's birthday. The lovely baker decorated it (at her request!) for no additional charge, and the result was stunning. My husband was super impressed, and we agreed that we would no longer buy cakes anywhere else.

The only challenge we face with this business moving forward will be deciding which flavor to try next... or if we should just stick to these new found favorites.

Great service, friendly staff, and wonderful cakes. We’ve been coming here for years for birthdays, holidays (and often for no occasion at all! 😁) We can’t recommend Take the Cake enough!

So Glad to see they are still around. My friends and I used to have dinner together a few times a week whenever it was my turn to bring dessert that was where I went without fail.

Wandered in here Oct. 25th at about 5:30pm. The young woman working was so beautiful I almost forgot why I was there. Then... the cake was so delicious I almost forgot about the beautiful, young woman that sold me the cake.

These folks are great. From cookies to cakes to cupcakes - my family's favorite! Fresh, delicious and they're always happy to see you. I'm going there again today. Great company.

Awesome cakes, picked up cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's day. The chocolate pistachio biscotti are great!

Their cakes are out of this world. We had three for our wedding 20 years ago and have bought a couple for our anniversary parties ever since!

I ordered a Carrot Cake for my moms birthday! It was delicious!!! So fresh !!! Going there for the next Birthday Cake I need!
