Always a fantastic experience. We started by sharing the Barratta, then I had the maple Chipotle wings (taking home half of those) and finishing with blueberry cheesecake. Amazing food and the blackberry wine was such a perfect choice. Love this place!

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for the night. We were in the Village View Room #8, which was the perfect size for us. It had a king bed and the windows looked out to the front of the building so we could see the river and watch the fly fishers. We walked by the Suite and checked it out, and wow is that a HUGE room with a comfortable looking bed, we almost upgraded but it was $69 more so we decided to use that difference at their bar downstairs instead. The hotel clerk Ashley was very kind and knowledgeable when she checked us in. The staff were very helpful throughout our stay. It was magical to be staying in the room above while the restaurant below filled with patrons. We were able to kick back, relax, have a drink and then walk right upstairs through the romantic charm of the Inn. While it's an incredibly old home it is well taken care of and felt clean. Our bed was comfortable, the food was delicious (great wings), and our stay was refreshing. Would come back again.

Didn't stay there but did have dinner and the food is amazing. Boneless chicken wings in the sweet coconut sauce was probably the best I've had.

Visit 2: 12 wings: 6 ginger soy/6 Jamaican jerk. Both crispy and flavorful. The pork ribs have a dry rub and are fall off the bone tender. The lobster roll is small but good. The fries weren't brown, so the owner said ask for extra crispy. The apple pie cheesecake is divine. Thanks, Adam, for making this on the house.

The food here is amazing. How lucky for diners to have this tavern open here. As a local guide, the 5 stars I give is based solely on its food, as I've read critiques of guides suggest we give favorable reviews to local establishments because we have to frequent them. Not true here. My reviews are honest and fair.

(Only reviews I've had removed were a pizza place in New Hartford which was balanced, but for noting the chicken wings were smaller in size with each visit & sausage on pizzas was sparse; a nearby Mediterranean spot for noting most food on the menu was sold out b/c the group in the event room ate it all, & an Italian restaurant in Avon for noting the filet mignon on risotto was no longer on the menu.)

The Old Riverton Inn existed since 1796 as a stagecoach stop. In modern times, located next to Farmington River, it's mostly been a B&B for fly fishermen. Different owners have tried restaurants here. We ate here on Mother's Day for years, but the prior menu never changed and only had about seven entrées, half of which had the same thick brown stuffing whether meat or fish.

Thank goodness for the Towers returning home to buy and update the Inn, & open this fine eatery. "It's packed all the time," our waitress told us, & with social distancing rules, "we often have to turn people away."

From the special menu we ordered the scallop appetizer with orange beurre blanc sauce. Two large sea scallops pan seared on one side came centered in the sauce. Unbelievable flavor.

Love the fish tacos. I haven't had an exceptional version since Memphis. ("Elwood's Shack" my reviews) Two big portions of perfectly fried haddock, guacamole, cilantro lime aioli. So desirable, I ate both with my hands. The well-browned fries were a nice change from standard yellow.

Steak Frites - flat iron grilled steak with garlic herb butter, medium, was perfectly cooked & seasoned. The steak is properly rested and juicy with a nice texture & comes with fries & a house salad, a mix of lettuce, cucumber, tomato & black olives. The house blue cheese has a refreshing ratio of more chunky blue cheese than dressing.

Cheesecakes are made by Dana. Nicely done with a small circular shape and berries mixed into the cream cheese instead of spooned on top.

We ordered takeout fish & chips and the haddock was perfect. Closed Mondays & Tuesdays.

Stayed at the Inn and ate at the Tavern.

The Inn:
Room was a king. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was nice. Everything was clean...smelled fresh. My room was right over the dining room and I could hear the noise. But the Tavern closed at 9pm and it was silent after. Easy to sleep. The window A/C kept the room temperature comfortable. The setting is idyllic...great if you're into fishing or hiking. I did the Henry Buck Trail. Nice way to spend a couple hours in the woods.

I'm spoiled with business friendly hotels and wish it was easier to find an outlet for my phone and computer. But I figured it out. Still I'd give this 5 stars as I'll come back.

The General Store is a 3 minute walk across the bridge. They have sandwiches and minor groceries. Open at 6am so I can grab coffee and bfast before heading to work.

Tavern:
It's warm and friendly. Packed every night. It's good enough to draw a crowd. I had the wings. It's always hard to rank wings but, if these weren't the best I've had, they're in the top 5. And, yeah, I've had lots of wings in my life.

When the Tavern is full, parking can be difficult for those staying at the Inn. I didn't want to leave my car on the street all night, so I waited for a spot. At other times, parking is ample. Not that annoying, but it's something you should know.

Didn't stay here, but eat here as often as I can. Service is always excellent, food is delicious! Fries are crisp, skin on, perfectly seasoned. Burgers cooked to order (and I like mine very rare), risotto is very good, VERY rich and a bowl will easily feed 2 people. Drink specials are creative and tasty. Great selection of local beers on tap.

The Tavern has phenomenal food and amazing service. The wings are to die for. Make sure you go early because there was a big wait but it's definitely worth the wait. We just found a gem in Riverton!

I stayed here with my mother once in 2004 when I was about five years old. As I was only five, I do not remember much about the amenities. I am told they were nice. I do, however, have a very positive recollection of the inn’s restaurant.

You see, when I was five, I was very into pickles and asked for one at every restaurant I went to. Most restaurants obliged and would bring me a pickle or two on a little dish. However, the Old Riverton Inn’s pickle service far surpassed anything I have since experienced in my adult life.

In response to my pickle request, I received not only a pickle, but an entire “pickle man” sculpture complete with olives for eyes and several smaller pickles for limbs. I am not sure who crafted this intricate display, but it was beautiful. I do not have any photos of the “pickle man”, but he lives on in my memory.

Wonderful place. We went there after glass blowing. Food was delicious and the staff, owner and regulars made this experience more than just a meal.

We ate at the bar. The dining room is warm and inviting as well.

I highly recommend visiting for a bite and Wonderful time.

Some of the best wings that I have ever had! Perfect outer layer of a thin crisp was a great appetizer! The entrée was a generous portion of a well cooked and delicious pork loin. You are missing out if you haven’t dined here. If you choose to go at a rush hour, save yourself some time and call ahead for a reservation. If not, you can always enjoy yourself in the bar area beforehand.

The people working there are always awesome. The food is just as great. We've had wings all over the state and the Royal Coachman has the best. They are serving some hot wings this week that were out of this world. Go back as often as possible. You will enjoy it every time!

My wife had a business meeting nearby so we stayed overnight at the inn. Food was delicious. We ate dinner outdoors on the patio. Menu is quite varied. I had salmon and my wife rissoto. Beet salad appetizer. We also shared an Apple doughnut sundae!

We stayed in the “spinning wheel” room. Very cozy and a super comfortable mattress. Best night’s sleep I had had in a while!

In short: highly recommended!

The Royal Coachman Tavern never disappoints. Reliably good food. They make a great Reuben sandwich, tasty burgers and did I mention The Castings pizza? Outdoor seating available.

Ye olde inn of yesteryear serving delicious pub food in laid back, friendly tavern. Delicious items: boneless Wings appetizer half rack ribs, and pulled pork sandwich. Will be back to stay over in one of the cozy rooms. Service was also superb!

Adam and Dana (the owners) are absolutely fantastic! They are the type of people who give you faith in humanity. The hotel is great - historic, clean, fun, and the food is excellent, but I was there for a work trip. The staff went out of their way to care for us in midst of a 5 day power outage due to a tropical storm that had moved through the area. Can't say enough about the hospitality and caring from the staff. I would not hesitate to stay here again for work or a getaway.
