The Blue Hound Cookery & Tap Room

First time here, went for dinner before a local show and found this a very pleasant establishment. Choose either the upstairs tap room or downstairs cookery (we chose the tap room). The food is a cut above your typical pub grub. We had the chicken jerk and the portobello sandwich both of which were great - followed by key lime pie and flourless chocolate torte - and accompanied by a very decent IPA. Great service, ambience - thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely come back if in the area and in the mood!

This is our go to restaurant whenever we come to a show at Ivovyton Playhouse. The upstairs is the bar. The restaurant is at lower level. It has a family style cozy vibe. The cruise is a combination of Italian with southern infusion. During our very recent visit, I tried their grilled salmon garnished with coconut flakes. It was delicious. Our friends also loved their food, especially the spicy food. The complementary cornbread was soft and fluffy. The service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

This was our first visit and won't be our last. Pay attention to the schedule for the Ivoryton Playhouse. The staff states it can get really busy. Reservations are suggested. There are three places to dine. Upstairs in the tap room, downstairs or outside. The food was fantastic. The jambalaya has a few heat levels. I went with hot on the suggestion of the waitress. Boudin sausage balls for an appetizer. Great beer list.

Amazing!! Me and my fiancé were driving by from a trip to a local swimming hole. This is a serious hidden gem. The food was top tier. The service was impressive. They had large portions, more then fair pricing, and better then expected food.

Our go to place for lunch. Food is always great and so is the service. Shrimp po boy and shrimp and grits are outstanding.

We had a party of four for dinner Saturday evening. We started with Gumbo followed by Fried green tomatoes and then the entrees of Jumbalia , meatloaf and grits and everything we tasted was amazing! This is a hidden gem .

Cool village vibe, great Cajun food. Very unique in the area. The gumbo is crazy good. We’ve been here several times and it’s consistently fantastic. Highly recommended

We love the blue hound! I have been living in Essex for 6 years and it’s our go to spot! The owners are amazing and the staff is too. Highly recommend!

Great find in Ivoryton. Friendly barkeep. Excellent craft draft beer selection. Not only do they have darts but shuffle board too. Looking forward to a return visit for foodie.

Great Cajun and southern food, friendly service, well priced. Have told many about the food, as it's a place worth returning too. Planning to return soon.

This restaurant is truly one of Connecticut's hidden gems! We have eaten there a number of times - always when we take in a show at the Ivoryton Theater. The food is fantastic and the specials are truly special. The drinks are well crafted, the service impeccable and the prices are fair. If you're looking for a great spot for a "date night" this is the spot for you! We can't wait to have another delicious dinner soon

There were about 16 of us. Our waitress did a really fine job of handling our drink order, and getting all the food out hot.

Always a great local spot for drinks and a meal. I like their southern inspired menu. The ladies in the tap room are awesome.

Came here on a Saturday night and there was no wait. Service was friendly and the food super tasty. It really takes you to New Orleans!

Unbelievable food. Chedd grits were to die for (not even joking). All cornbread should taste like theirs. Cocktail that the waitress made per special request was lovely. Killer food with a super sweet staff.

I will be honest, I was not a fan of the main dish that I ordered, but that does not deter me. The fact is that most of their food is perfection and I just happened to pick a dish I didn't end up liking, no biggie! We actually wanted to come back tonight for dinner, but we forgot it was Tuesday lol. YOU GOTTA GO HERE AT LEAST ONCE.

Also, i am not 100% which dish it was that I got, but it had sausage and two other meats, that's all I can remember. It's a popular item, it just wasn't the flavor profile I was expecting. I think it was the sausagethat threw it off mainly.

For one we eat here for dinner at least once a week! The food, drinks, staff and owners are out of this world! It never gets boring because they always have fabulous specials.
Last night I rented out the top floor tap room for my class reunion . I would recommend this to anyone throwing a holiday party or just any get together. We did a cash bar and appetizers. The food and staff were beyond amazing and everyone there said they had to go back for dinner!!

Went for my dad's birthday luncheon and the food is amazing now I know why my dad and his gf love this place so much highly recommend great staff!

Had the Cajun dish blackened chicken with pasta. The sauce was superb. Everyone in our party of 8 liked their meals.
