We have had a few deliveries from Inferno Pizza, their pies are excellent, thin crust cooked in a wood fired oven. Today we were on Universal Drive and went into Home Depot Plaza to visit Inferno Pizza for lunch. my wife and I ordered a meatball sub along with an antipasto salad to split. The meatball sub was excellent good tasting sauce loaded with meatballs on a lightly toasted bread. The sale was very good we couldn't finish the salad so we took it home. I never realized Inferno Pizza was located in this plaza, I guess I never took time to look always going to Home Depot for something then back home. I would say that a stop in at Inferno Pizza would be worth your time, great food and service was excellent. We will be back.

So here’s the thing about pizza. You do not need fancy anything. In fact, if anything is “fancy” I’m gonna be seriously suspect about the pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some totally decent, proper, thin crust pizza in “fancy-ish” restaurants. But not the kind of pizza I would come here to tell you about. And I am here to tell you about the pizza at Inferno in North Haven, CT.

I found Inferno months and months ago on a Yelp foray and filed it away in one of my “collections.” Because my parents decamped to Florida for the winter I never got a chance to try them. I drive down from Vermont to Branford, CT regularly to visit my parents and what happens is I work all day and THEN drive the three hours ao I’m always trying to figure what I can grab for dinner on my way. New Haven/Napoletana style pizza is always at the top of my list (No, Im not interested in Sal and Pepe, I’m interested in the independent, family owned/run type stops that are STILL independent family owned/run). Inferno has been family owned for something like 30+ years. Obviously not in its current location…

Inferno is located in a storefront in the little strip with Home Depot at one end and BJs at the other. The menu is not huge. It’s not pages and pages of things. It’s a decent selection of pizzas and then all the build it yourself pizza options.

If you’re going to try a new pizza place you must order a plain, cheese pizza. It’s going to tell you a lot about what you need to know: what is the crust like? How are they cooking the crust? How is their red sauce?? How is the cheese? How much cheese?

SIDEBAR: Do NOT be running any kind of Italian restaurant and serve me bad/bland/unseasoned red sauce. Just stop with that. If you can’t make a delicious, simple red sauce get OUT of Italian food!

I’m pretty sure Inferno’s plain, cheese pizza is The Best Cheese Pizza I’ve ever had.

Let me repeat that:

Inferno’s plain, cheese pizza is The Best Cheese Pizza I’ve ever had.

Wow. FANTASTIC.

The crust is perfect. Thin, excellent flavor AND, cooked well with those areas of char around the edges. The hallmark of New Haven Pizza (the best pizza in the world - don’t start with me!)). Inferno cooks their pizzas in a proper wood fired oven, which is a big part of how you get that crust. But then you need someone in charge of the oven who knows how long to keep the pizzas in there and how much turning to get them fully, evenly cooked.

A lot of places you have to order your pizzas “well done” to get the crust done right. But I always “test” a spot on my first time by just ordering the pizzas with no special instructions. Inferno cooked all three pizzas to perfection! Because apparently that’s just how they do it.

I ordered a shrimp pizza, white. I don’t eat beef, pork or poultry, but I’m always here for white clam or shrimp! Uh. WOW. The shrimp pizza was CRAZY GOOD. Prior to eating this shrimp pizza I have always said that The White Clam is The King of ALL Pizzas. And I’m not really ready to dethrone a great White Clam…but this here shrimp? Right now? I’d choose this shrimp over any white clam.

First, it’s COVERED in shrimp. And they are, somehow, cooked perfectly even while the crust has that char I was talking about. Not sure how they do this?? But it’s AMAZING. GET THIS PIZZA!!!

The third pizza was an eggplant and pepper. Because when I see eggplant I have to order eggplant. As far as I can tell eggplant is a love it or hate it situation. Not too many “fence sitters” when eggplant is concerned. The eggplant is small, paper thin, breaded pieces that are delicious. Beware that this is a DENSE pizza. The eggplant is breaded and then on the crust. It will fill you up FAST.

We also tried garlic bread with no cheese (crispy, buttery, very good) and Caesar Salad. If you’ve been here before you know Caesar is my favorite salad and ALWAYS my “test salad.” Full Disclosure: the Romaine was ever so slightly tired. But I’m not really going to hold that against them.

I will be back!

Currently planning on when I can eat white Shrimp Pizza again…

New Haven crust 100%. Sauce, cheese, flavor all on point. Hidden gem! Native Tomato (see pic) just went in my Top Ten List of all time best pies. And I eat alot of new haven pizza and beyond. Other pie is sausage. I forget the green pie combo cause it was from awhile back. Spinach something.

We love this place! Woodburning oven. Loads of toppings. We especially liked the eggplant, sautéed onions pie combo. BYOB for alcohol. They do have Foxon Park sodas!

We love Inferno! Amazing pizza and extremely hospitable staff. We have done multiple birthday parties for my young girls here (followed by movie across the street) where all the kids and parents have raved about the pizza. We often get texts from family and friends randomly going out of their way to go back weeks and months later after trying Inferno at the birthday party!

Had the sausage pizza slice and a slice of the garlic bread with bacon. Both of which were fantastic. As an avid foodie I would put them top 10 in CT

Came to visit March 25 2023 And all I have to say is why isn’t this place packed ? Ordered a plain Mozz & 3 slices I was very impressed by the char on the bottom the crust and the toppings on the slices ! The pizziola does not skimp on toppings. It was baked to perfection…Enjoyed a mashed potato bacon caramelized onion slice & tomato basil along with the sausage mozz. The crust was nice and thin and crispy with a little bit of char. If you haven’t tried this restaurant run don’t walk to north haven

First time and it definitely won't be my last. I was a bit skeptical when I called on a Friday night and they said "Be ready in 10 minutes". Sure enough, I walked in the door 11 minutes later and was handed two small pizzas and my wings. (They were cranking out orders with lightening fast speed). I had the shrimp casino and it was delicious. Also, I'm on the quest for the most amazing buffalo wings and they were very impressive. Highly recommend you give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

I really love the pizza here! Just the right amount of cheese and sauce on a perfectly thin crust. Service was friendly, and my to-go order for a large pie was ready in what seemed like minutes. With only small and large available, we were glad we got the large! As with all the best places in the area, Foxon Park was available too!

To my exquisite friend Christopher, I just want everyone to know that his food and his restaurant feels like home when you enter it. From Everyone’s warm greeting , to the great service and absolutely delicious food which I had the pleasure of having his thin crust shrimp pizza with fresh lemons and herbs. Everything is so fresh and delightful, truly makes your day.
You don’t want to leave. Definitely put a smile on my face.😀
We all love a cozy happy all around awesome place to go and dine, and it is truly the place to be. ♥

We have had great experiences every time we order from them. This is our new favorite place!! Love the thin crust. You still able to fold your slice and gobble (had too so close to Thanksgiving) it up!!

I just move to North Haven from Orange where we got our pizza from Pepes or Dayton street in Westville. I have not tried all of the pizza in North Haven yet, but, if you like thin crust pizza, Inferno on Universal Drive in North Haven is the place to go!!!!! They have it down, it is delicious !!! ..... a definite go to!!!!!!

We happen to be shopping in the area and were hungry. We saw Inferno Pizza and in an area with so many famous pizza restaurants we were not expecting much.
What a pleasant surprise. The pizza was outstanding with a delicious sauce that was not too salty, a light crunchy crust and lots of mozzarella. Service was fast. This restaurant is a hidden gem.

Phenomenal pizza! One of the only pizza places around that has goat cheese as a topping, although even just the plain mozz pie is spectacular. I drive from Meriden to enjoy Inferno Apizza

DELICIOUS! This was our first visit and we had a white broccoli pie and an eggplant parm sub. Both were very very good. Definitely can compete with the New Haven pizza joints. We're going back for sure.
