Adams Hometown Market

Great local place for residents to go that live in the area without having to go to Old Saybrook. They have their own brand of coffee that is cheap and amazing and the Greek yogurt they get is probably the most spot on to what I've had in Greece.

Adams is a nice well stocked supermarket. They have many of the basics and also some very interesting items. Their bakery has many bargains and some fantastic muffins. Wave at the lobsters, they might wave back.

Nice little IGA. I was a little disappointed to see they no longer offer the huge amount of pre-made (in-store) meals that used to have, but there are a few options still available. Great beer selection! Prices are a little more than the large grocery stores, but they just don't have the buying power and sales volume the larger chain supermarkets have.
The deli is well stocked. No, they don't have Boar's Head products, and I'm glad. While Boar's Head products are usually excellent, their marketing strategy is such that they won't provide product to smaller stores unless the store agrees to sell only Boar's Head products, which can be very expensive. This store bakes their own turkey breast, which is VERY good!
Good meat and chicken selection. They offer premium cuts as well as the basics.
Produce selection was nice, looked good, fresh, and I haven't had a problem finding anything I needed.
Overall a surprisingly large offering of food from a small neighborhood market. No, it's not a box store, and you might not find some specialty items, but let's get real-they can't offer everything. They do offer enough such that I needn't drive to another town to do all of my shopping. Also, the sales here keep your overall bill low if you shop the sales.

I’ve been going here all my life and I love this place. If you need groceries in deep river this is the place to go they have a wide variety of goods. They had ready mix pie crust that I had been looking alll over for!! I would say just check your produce (strawberries, raspberries or the fruits in those plastic containers) they sometimes have some mold so check them throughly!!! Staff is really nice and awesome! But overall amazing!!!

They pack a lot of choices in this small town grocery store. The produce section is impressive. It leads right to
the deli which has all the great meats and cheeses along with sandwiches, rotisserie food, prepackaged meals to grab and eat, heat and eat or you can get a variety of dishes and soups off the hot bar.
Meats and seafoods including a lobster tank! Beer, etc, too!
The bakery has all kinds of fresh breads and goodies.
Don't bother to use the self checkouts until they get them debugged, but there are plenty of checkouts.

First time going to Adams, very clean store, well stocked, Deli products were fresh and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend Adams.

High quality grocery store! They have it all and if they don't have it you don't need it... home made sushi , and sandwiches. Best meat you can buy , cold cut or pork , chicken ,ribs !! I would rate this store to Mquades and Publix better than stop and shop or shop rite . The staff is amazing and very helpful esp the meat counter! May be a little more expensive how ever you get quality with the price !

They have everything I need and the store is always very clean and everything is easy to find. Staff are very friendly.

Very good local store. Everything is fresh. Produces are bit pricey compare to Stop & Shop. I like their bakery section, baked breads & sweets are delicious & fresh. I also like to buy meats from Adams, it’s fresh & sometimes they have good deals.

First visit here and I was impressed! I needed a quick lunch and got in and out of this very clean and organized store without a wait! I got hot soup, a great sandwich and a box of snack cakes for my coworkers and had the best lunch ever for about $11. Best butternut squash bisqe!

Love the store. Can't beat the fish, meat, and produce.

I go to Adams at least twice a week. More often during the Summer months. I really like their specials which change every few days. You can almost always find a really good deal on something special and make a terrific meal at very reasonable prices. I also try to stock up on the specials such as frozen shrimp or canned goods. Their day old baked goods are marked down to half price and I either use them right away or freeze them and pull what ever I need front there. I am a fan and will continue to be one as long as they keep doing what they do.

Updated: I must amend some of the things I wrote and my rating in a previous review, as with the last few years it seems Adams has considered my complaint of not enough local product/produce and really has made more of a solid effort in this department. I now go out of my way to come here since they began carrying Hastings yogurt. As a previous Hastings farm share holder (I lived in Suffield for a few years) the first time I saw their products here I was overwhelmed with joy. This is the kind of stuff I crave to see in a local grocer, and pulls me into the store more frequently then going to bigger supermarkets. Im hoping for more of this in the future. The baked goods have improved in the last few years (though I know for a fact New Britain has a better supply of Paczki’s then what you’re getting from Pennsylvania), the produce and deli area are better then ever. There is now self check out which alone gained a full extra star. The stores receiving area near the prepared foods no longer smells like a strange litter odor. Place is still clean, but that was never an issue tbh. Flowers are always lovely. I find myself beginning to choose coming here over the bigger giants in the area now which I prefer as I would much rather support a local business over a corporate big box. Well done on the improvements, please keep it up with CT based goods.

Atmosphere is great, employees are always friendly and eager to help..they go out of their way to get what you're looking for, if the shelf doesn't have it, they'll go in back and check if they have more.. if not, they'll order anything you're looking for. Good produce section, their deli is awesome! Their prepared pastas, salads, ect.. are good, along with their ready to go hot soups, and variety of hot, homemade foods, ready to go.
Always well stocked... and they carry pretty much EVERYTHING!
Also have people's 'usual's, or basics' on sale as well.
And clean!

Nice local store enjoy there precooked food as much as possible. And recently I been finding that the meat here is cheaper than going all the way to saybrook since the huge price hikes.

My first order came last week with some items missing. When I called the store, Ethan reviewed each item I ordered, touring the store as we talked. He found many items including some fruits/vegetables just being unpacked to back fill for me. When I went to pick them up, "so sorry and no charge" came the response. I still smile thinking about this great kindness. Linda

They offered a special Valentine's Day dinner for 2 to be picked up and cooked at home. It was awesome!!
