I've only been to the spice palette a few times, and every single time, it has been absolutely amazing.
The food tastes astounding, and it's flavored and spiced perfectly. The portions are very generous for the price, you will not leave hungry or disappointed. The food also looks so appetizing when brought out, it is abundantly clear that the owner(s) and the kitchen staff care deeply for their craft and want to serve the best food they can.
If you are looking for an absolutely amazing restaurant in New London, you have to come to the Spice Palette!

Went in to order takeaway and decided to have a drink at the bar. First off, how gorgeous the bar area is. They are ready for Easter that’s for sure. We waited about 15-20 min and our food was ready. Everyone was very polite, service was quick and the food delicious.

I loved our experience at the Spice Palette. They were getting ready to close but served us a wonderful dinner, quickly but perfectly. Another diner was celebrating a birthday, but the staff must have heard me tell her it was my birthday too, and they came out with a piece of ice cream cake for me, I was very surprised. Our food was the best Indian food I’ve had in the area, and we’ve tried all the local places. We hadn’t planned on visiting tonight and it was impromptu, but so glad we stopped for a late dinner. We will definitely be back.

Stupidly good Indian food. I personally got the Murgh Vindaloo with Garlic Naan, and finished with Gulab Jamun. Shared a Lassoni Gobi (also spelled Lasooni/Lasuni from what I've seen? But that's just the spelling on the menu) dish with the other person in my party.

The Vindaloo is spicy no doubt, but it adds to the blend used in the sauce perfectly as it's deeply flavorful, hitting very savory and distinct somewhat-sweet notes, the only real reservation I have here being the chicken's texture as it was a little tough for me. Besides, and for those unaware, the rice is meant to help with the heat! Naan or any other starches can too, assuming you ordered some. The service really shined when I was able to ask for the Garlic Naan without cilantro (as I'm one of the few with the "soap gene"), and our server was more than happy to accommodate.
The Gobi appetizer had was a stellar start, the sauce was smooth, mild, definitively garlic-y and the texture was neither too crunchy nor too soft. I've been wanting to try some Aloo Gobi and I think this is a great introduction to more Indian cauliflower dishes. Now I just need to try Paneer...
The dessert menu arguably startled me as someone who's more used to a western palette, but again the service really showed its best as the staff were patient with me and allowed me time, to change my mind after the check came, and were flexible when they recommended the dessert I chose by itself since I wanted to do it take-out. I do NOT regret changing my mind about Gulab Jamun, I'm almost a little upset I only got two balls because it's that ridiculously good. Moist, VERY sweet, smells otherworldly despite its simplicity, and pairs well with ice cream (albeit I added my own after I got home, I can't speak on the location's ice cream).

Absolutely thrilled I was recommended this place by a confidant of mine. I'm not exactly used to "fancy" Indian as the restaurant closest to me is more akin to a "fast-food" Indian place, and while the atmosphere didn't hit all MY personal notes, it's certainly stunning and might really impress you. I will say the pine tree shaped napkins with utensils as the trunk for December were adorable, and the water you can self-serve from a bottle is unique!

TL;DR: food so good I was sent to God, the bathroom next morning, and their Google page to write this essay-long review. worth it all 10/10 would highly recommend

My First-time here. I'm whole food plant based. I went there because they had so many Vegan Options. But My Friends and Date Had Non Vegan. They Loved Everything and So did I . Portion were Great. Staff was Friendly. I got a Vegan Desert that tasted like Rice Pudding. It's a Must Eat Place.
I Will Be Returning Many Times in the Future. Peace

Superb. I've had a lot of Indian food across the US and the food, service, and atmosphere of this place is beyond anything I've had. I had the tamarind eggplant and the tandoori palette. The eggplant appetizer felt like a full meal and the flavor was outstanding for a meager $7. Very generous portions, and beautifully presented. I'm in danger, this place is an easy walk from my work and now that I know how amazing this is I may be coming in often. If you love Indian food, just go. There's no way to be disappointed.

This place will NOT dissapoint you. The food, drinks, apps, CLEANliness, service, atomosphere.. what can I say? Its just perfect. Dont worry, no matter what you order it will be awesome. Trust that.
They know how to use spices like ive never tasted. They are NOT afraid of heat, so be careful on 4 pepper rated dishes. 2 pepper rating was awesome and exactly what you would expect IMO. Most dishes are not hot or spicy ,but just DELICIOUS.
It's a 100%.
And I do NOT give that out ea.
easily. You MUST try it. You WILL come back. Trust that.

Festival of flavors served in generous portions. Expert dish presentation. The prawns sultani sauce was out of this world. My partner had lamb pepper fry- exquisite. What a jewel in New London. Lots vegetarian options also.

Visited this restaurant a week back. Loved the vibe of the restaurant and the food. The interiors were done beautifully. The food had flavours from the region of Kerala. The presentation was good. Restaurant was clean and hygienic. Portions were wholesome and priced reasonably.

I came to this restaurant last night with my best friend for her birthday. We were a party of six. We all left very happy and pleased with our food and service. I had Veg Samosa, Tandoori beef steak, mashed potatoes and veggies. Everything came out fresh, hot and tasted amazing! My drink was also good and the service was excellent! I can't wait to go back again. I'd give this place a 10/10

We stopped by last week for something different and we are SO glad we did! The food was fantastic and the service was super quick too. I had the lamb vindaloo but sampled some of the other dishes as well. I want to go back to try the buffet the offer for lunch so I can try a variety of different samples.

I couldn't wait to write this review. Total random-event finding this restaurant. I was cold - hungry - and wanted something that would satisfy both as I made my way off of I-95 at Ext-75 (Waterford, CT). I decided to drive until I found something interesting. It wasn't long until I saw what appeared to be a match. In the most unexpected location, there in front of me was a name I'd not seen before ..."Spice Palette." It was 10:50 AM; a few moments on Google and a phone call to see if they were taking dine-in lunch customers and I was in at opening-bell - 11:00 AM. I was seated by a super-nice host/waiter by the name of, "Priyan-Paul" - a young gentleman whom herald's from southern Indian, and more recently, Florida.

Now ...I've lived in 12 countries overseas on 4-continents and have had Indian food the world-over. Been to Bangladesh and lived in Islamabad and Kabul. Folks - this is the REAL DEAL. I knew it just by looking at the menu. The chef, "Lijoy Verghese" did his training in Gao - a town on the western shore of middle-India along the Arabian Sea. He's no stranger to seafood. I've always thought that the countries of SE Asia made the best renditions of calamari. After trying one bite of Lijoy's, Spice Calamari today, I've updated that to, "South Asia." It was fantastic ... and just when I though I'd like it really spicy - there was a perfectly roasted red/green chili pepper in the middle of it that blew my head off. Awesome! Beware - nibble it with each bite and don't forget to take a bite of the fresh lemon rind with each mouthful. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back for dinner tonight.

I wanted to order everything - but had to show some restraint and ordered the following items with pictures of some of the dishes shown in my review.

- Spice Palette Salad
- Kachumber Salad
- Spice Calamari
- Vergetarian Biriyani
- Mango Chicken
- Gobi Paratha
- Masala Chai
- Chicken Shahi Korma
- Madras Coffee

I said I was hungry.

The prices are so very reasonable and the portions are enormous. The salads darn-near took up half the table. The entire meal took up more than the table and dishes had to be stacked. Half of everything was taken home. There was easily enough food for 6 people. I would have had dessert except I was worried about going to the ER and classified, "Glutton."

I've long complained that there are few ...really few ...late-night dessert runs along the the CT shoreline. Well - that drought has ended too. I will definitely be hitting every one of their desserts this year. In fact - It's my quest to try everything on their menu between now and New Years ...which given the layout and décor of the restaurant - looks like a really fun place to have a New Year's party.

My only complaint is that Lijoy Verghese didn't open this restaurant in the brand new complex being built off Exit 63 ...hint hint. I can't tell you how happy I am to have happened across your restaurant. Had I paid more attention to CT Magazine - I'd have been there for the Grand Opening.

Congratulations to all of you on an awesome restaurant. I hope this review adds to your base-of-clientele. As Schwarzenegger would say ..."I'll BE BACK!"

I am not a die-hard fan of Indian Cuisine but The Spice Palette has created my newfound affection for it. I was talking to Tanzeela - one of their crew members who initially welcomed us in, said they've opened the restaurant (theyre on Bank St.) in Oct 2021, and despite all the recent ups and downs of the restaurant industry, Spice Palette had kept their doors open.

The dining area is well spaced, with their walls covered by lush artificial turf, creating a relaxed atmosphere. It has lofty ceilings with a center dome (a work of art by Nia, also a crew member) and an indoor fountain that felt more homey than commercial. The full interior is sublimated by the soft melody of music playing in the background.

The Chef did amazing work with our orders: The Chat Papdi was an excellent appetizer with sweet and tangy flavors smeared in a combination of crisp crackers, chickpea, onions and potatoes. The Prawn Sultani - cashew sauce endearingly creamy and sweet, was heavily complemented with a buttery scattering of grilled shrimp carefully plated and accompanied by shredded flavor composites cradled in a bowl of seasoned biryani rice.

We also had the garlic naan- flatbread with charred portions (creating texture and grit).

You will want to leave space for dessert too. Nia recommended the Gulab Jamum. This version of dry milk dumplings is improbably rich yet not too sweet.

The hospitality is unrelenting at The Spice Palette, but what else would you expect from a restaurant with the coolest crew? Definitely come and visit. And when you do, spread the word!

Hands down the best Indian cuisine in the State of Connecticut. While I have my favorites like Murgh Vindaloo, Hot & Sour soup, and vegetable samosas, I love trying new things here and have never been disappointed. I recently tried their new lunch special, “Thali”, and I was once again so impressed. Thali is a great choice for those who want to sample many different dishes and flavor profiles, and is great for beginners and/or those who are intimidated by spice level as these samplings don’t pack heat like some of their other dishes.
This place is family owned and Lijoy takes great pride to deliver a tasty quality product every time. Top it off with super friendly staff and and a very clean restaurant and this place just can’t be beat! Looking forward to my next visit!
