Russel and Helen Means Observation Tower

Nice observation tower. 49 capacity. Ground level plus 3 viewing levels (A, B, & C, C being the top level). Not hard at all walking up stairs. There’s an elevator 🛗 that stops at each floor. Parking is not really plentiful, so it can fill up pretty quick if there’s lots of visitors. I would estimate 10-30 mins should be average for most visitors. Note that all of the walking trails are paved. You could easily park at a different shelter and just walk to the tower as well.

Fun tower, very clean, and safe feeling experience. There is an elevator provided for improved accessibility. Nice views of the park itself, however, the tower is not tall enough for the views to extend well beyond the park boundaries.

This is a gorgeous park and the observation tower certainly helps see all the beauty.

Amazing place to catch a sunrise !

I've been here a few times since moving to Kansas and this is one of the best parks. I live in OP so it's a little ways away but definitely worth the drive. They were still building on the observation tower the first time I came but by my second visit it was complete. It offers gorgeous views during sunrise and sunset. I highly recommend coming during the summer and fall months.

It's so beautiful. To stand at the top of the observation tower and look at the wonderful surroundings of nature,with its lake and land,to watch the sun set is so fantastic to see. I would recommend that anyone who really loves the outdoors should come to Mr and Mrs Russel and Helen Means tower.

Love this area especially this time of year with all the fireworks going off in the area for the July 4th. Great photography area or just observing the entire area.

The observation area is wonderful. You can use either stairs or elevator. When you reach the top floor you will see the beautiful scenery. It' s really awesome! Well cleaned and maintained.

Nostalgic place. Trivia: Did you know? Parts of this tower are made up from the swaying tower that was disassembled from Shawnee Mission Park.
