After a few margaritas, you’ll be feeling how we were feeling! Best margaritas in town. The quesadilla I had was to die for and super good. I highly recommend if you want a good drink or the best margarita in town and get some good Mexican food after.

We came here looking for grilled fish tacos. And they were very good. Service was fast, guac and queso was very tasty. Prices were reasonable.

The fish tacos had quite a bit of fish in them. Fajitas were tasty. We want to come back and try their shrimp.

First time trying this place after a tour at the Boulevard Brewing Co. Parking was a challenge, but it was also super busy and it’s downtown so this wasn’t unexpected. We were a party of 7. The wait was around 15 to 20 mins. When we were seated at our table it was already set with waters and enough chips and salsa that we didn’t have to ask for more. This is also where the service really shined. Not once did we have to ask for more chips or salsa; the servers promptly refilled the salsas and chip baskets, sometimes before they were empty. The red salsa was a little bland to my liking but they also served a green salsa that was actually pretty spicy and perfectly complemented the red salsa when mixed. The food was great and the portions were enough to take home and have seconds.

I was thoroughly pleased with this dining experience and will definitely go back.

Oh, and the margaritas were great and strong!

I haven't been to Ponak's for about 25 years and after last night I realized, I've been missing out. There were 3 of us and everyone's food was a huge portion and delicious. The Taco Salad was great and I was barely able to finished it. The Chicken Nachos were massive and they had a ton of cheese. We got a pitcher of Margaritas and had a great meal. Our waitress did a great job and she rocked it.

Great food, friendly staff. Surprisingly when we went (party of 4) there was no wait. It was Sunday around 4:30. I would recommend this place for sure.

Order a number 3 and bring your appetite! Great food and atmosphere. Great staff.

Great place! I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was the best I've ever had. Thick, juicy grilled chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, grilled almost pita style thing. Amazing!

TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! best flavor and that cheese...ohh so good. Jon Ponak has it special ordered from a place in Wisconsin. Also the taco Sonora with carnitas and tamales are my personal favorite. However, there's no bad choices on the menu...In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Kansas City and beyond! Don't forget to order an attitude adjustment a.k.a. margarita!!! Gracias!

My family went around 3:45pm on a Saturday and it was packed! However, we were seated pretty quickly. Our server, Robin, was taking over the night shift and was able to get our table, plus at least four other tables orders in and drinks out relatively quickly considering how busy she was! My order, the deep fried flour shell tacos were awesome! My husband's pork Chile tamale was perfect, but our daughter wasn't a fan of the pork quesadilla. Overall, we had a good experience. We will definitely be back but sit in the bar area because there are no TVs to watch sports in the main dining area.

Ordered 1 dish to split with my girlfriend. They actually split the 2 burritos with even portions into two plates, very satisfied with them going above and beyond. Service very quick and efficient. We were hungry, jalapeños salsa was 10/10, this place is always poppin..

This was recommended to me by the locals. I'll start by saying I'm happy with the recommendation! The food is very reasonable,very tasty, and to top off with a great price highest thing being the margaritas at $20. So to go out to get some great food and a good buzz you're not breaking the bank. Only complaint is parking can be rough so get here early or be prepared to walk. Overall will definitely come again. (Sorry for the pictures they couldn't wait the food was that good)

Ponak’s is my go-to spot for Tex Mex comfort food. Though the experience is unlikely to impress foodies or decor snobs, anyone who just wants some good guac and chips and simple, delicious Mexican fare will love it here. However, if noise and crowds bother you, plan your mealtime for the off hours between lunch and dinner rushes.

Great service, atmosphere and food is good. Great place and you can order margaritas by the pitcher and half pitcher. All pre-made in their margaritas machine. Yes, they go through that many margaritas. I like the enchiladas . Would have taken photos but crowded. FYI, this place almost always has a wait. Especially for dinner.

Ponak's Mexican Kitchen and Bar, located on Southwest Blvd, 1 block from Marguerita's, off Interstate 35, in Kansas City, MO, has been serving FANTASTIC TASTING MEXICAN FOOD since 1975. They have a large menu selection. One menu only for everyone; no kid's menu. Burritos, Enchiladas, Tacos, Rice, Beans, homemade taco chips and the best tomatoe, cheese, jalapeños and Guacamole dips. Soda pop served in dining with a separate area for beer and mixed drinks. Limited parking. Not Disabled nor wheelchair accessible. 4-5-2023. Mgb.

Food was amazing and staff friendly and accommodating. Always super busy-call ahead for a reservation at least 30 minutes-more during meal times and on weekends. Margarita pitchers are $32, so be warned. Portion sizes are huge. Red salsa isn't very good; salsa verde is, but on the spicy side. Try the queso blanco!

One group was 12 to 13 and the other was 8 to 10... they were served just like it was a small group!! Awesome AWESOME PLACE

There is only 1 Ponak’s, it’s a KC institution everyone should visit. I don’t even live in KC but always go when I return. Simply the best margarita’s anywhere. Unique and not like what you’ve had before, made with Rose’s Lime Juice and a good amount of booze. Bonus, you can get them to go. Their food is great, excellent Tex-Mex style. Highly recommend the Sonoran Tacos, deep fried to perfection. But everything is good. Good chance there will be a small wait but tables turn quick, just have a pitcher of margs while you wait. Always fast service and nice folks.

Ponak's is always awesome. However, if you're a big Margarita lover like me. Always make sure you have a designated driver. Those margaritas are truly truly strong, and we love them for that. The food? Well, what do you say? We love that a 100%. At the street tacos, the black beans, and of course, the wonderful rice, the chips and sauce are always on point. Be prepared for a wait! But the wait is worth it. The best Mexican food in KC. We're from the south in AZ, and this place by far is the closest to traditional we've found. It is a bit overwhelming when getting there. The parking lot and waiting area are small. But you won't be disappointed. Oh, and get the guac!

What a great place!! If I get within 20 miles of this restaurant, I'm going!! The best fried tacos ever!! Everything is so good!! Salsa is great and the service amazing!!
