Delicious food and excellent service every time. This is always our birthday dinner spot. Make a reservation ahead of time and wear your stretchy pants- you won’t leave hungry!!

Well…when in cattle country it’s only proper to try and find a locally owned steakhouse to experience some regionally sourced Kansas beef.
Thankfully, we found North Star Steakhouse and I’m glad we did.
I might have just had the best restaurant steak ever! YUM!
This place has been a “supper club” for over 80 years…cool!

The North Star is a Topeka treasure, and a legend, one of more than a few steak houses that's survived through the years. I went for my birthday dinner; free sirloin steak (or discount of equivalent value) with friends and we were all very happy with our meals, the service, everything about the experience.

Old speakeasy with the decor just what you would expect. Old building, common tables and chairs, but what an experience. Individual jukebox selectors at each table from the 50s. Go there early and get a flight of old fashioned with different whiskey. Also got a surprisingly amazing Mint Julep. Ribeye served with fries and gravy and it was over the top fantastic. Do not miss the bread pudding. It is the best i have ever had. Must go!

Had a wonderful experience at this little, almost hole in the wall type of place called North Star. The ambiance was dark and romantic, candle lit tables. Lots of history here, pictures of times past on the walls. As well as a written piece on the menu about the place. Each of the staff was friendly and welcoming. Especially our server Sierra. She was fantastic.

This evening we found ourselves craving a "flight" of various whiskeys. We received three within this flight; Basil Hayden, High Wind Prairie whiskey, and Templeton rye were our choices. Display was gorgeous, and the cherries at the bottom were phenomenal.

We ordered the hand cut t-bone, it was cooked to perfection, and SO tender. We also got the ribeye, which was ridiculously flavorful. The "Bonnie and Clyde" option, gives you sauteed veggies under your steak. Each entree comes with a side of your choosing as well as a salad. Lots of dressing options. The fries or hash browns are served with a gravy that is everything you want in a homemade gravy.

The steak for two is huge, however there wasn't a lot of flavor to it, such as the ribeye.

You will not leave this place hungry.

Forgive me for the to go plate but this experience was Awesome! It was my Birthday and I got $20 of my meal because of my Birthday. I only eat well done steak and they got it perfect there was no fat on the steak. I will be going back next year🤍

North Star exceeded every expectation we had. Debbie was our waitress. She was phenomenal in her customer service, patience, and delivery. Amy the owner spent a couple of minutes with us and further explained the history of the establishment. And the food was tantalizing to say the least.

This place is great! I love the history wrapped into it! The food was wonderful, and our server was even better! We took advantage of the birthday discount and we are so glad we did!

As a first-time customer, I will definitely be returning!

We celebrated my Mom's 80th birthday here and enjoyed the food and the evening. From welcome to the goodbye we were treated like family. Our server Deb did a great job and was very patient with all the questions and requests. Everyone's steak was prepared as requested. Thank you North Star.

What a hidden gem this was!! We arrived in Topeka hungry and looking for a great steak. Normally I would say you need reservations, but we were lucky and they worked us through. The service and food was great. I loved the atmosphere and would definitely recommend it!!

This was our first time going to the North Star Steakhouse. I have lived in the Topeka surrounding area my whole life and had never heard of this place. I found it doing a web service for best steakhouses. It’s one of those locals know about it places that really isn’t advertised. You know it’s going to be good when the parking lot is filling up 30 minutes before the doors open. My wife and I ordered the 32 oz sirloin for two. Mine was cooked to medium rare and hers was cooked too medium just the way we ordered them. Both steaks were outstanding the best I have had in years from a restaurant. Our meals came with a side salad and a loaded baked potato. Our son ordered a chicken fired sirloin and it was tender and tasty. It also came with a side salad and tons of fries and a tasty brown gravy. We also ordered the mixed sampler appetizer. This was literally a meal by its self and came with three sauces. One of them was a sweet smokey BBQ sauce that was outstanding and the honey mustard was really good also. The atmosphere was nice and quiet just some nice soft music in the back ground. I have tendonitis and most of the time I cannot have a conversation with people in my party. No problem at the North Star. I was having a conversation with my wife and son at a normal talking voice. No asking them what 5 times!! Those big chain restaurants are just too loud for me with music and TV’s blasting none stop. It’s so annoying to go to those big chain restaurants for me. The service at the North Star was outstanding as well. We will be back, thank you North Star. Keep up the great work and quiet laidback atmosphere.

Vergie (my lady), her son Kenneth, and I, had an incredible dinner, and a fantastic time at The North Star Steakhouse, last night! Kenneth is back in town, on vacation from the U.S. Military (he is currently stationed in the U.K.)! He said steak is his favorite thing, so we put North Star to the test, with Kenneth, and they passed with flying colors! We started off with their fried mushrooms, and onion rings, for our apitizers, and they were delicious. Then, Kenneth had the Porterhouse Steak (I think it was 32 ounces), and he said it was, hands down, the best steak he has ever had! Vergie had the T-Bone steak, and said it was absolutely perfect! I had the Rib Eye, and it was almost too good to be true! We had their famous gravy and French fries, and talk about scrumptious! Our salads were really good, and I had a nice, baked potato, and we also had some broccoli, and I told our server, Debbie, to please make sure my broccoli is steamed well enough, that it won’t be crunchy, and she said, it won’t be, and she was right. Speaking of Debbie, she was one of the absolute best servers that I have ever had-maybe the best. We all agreed on that. She was on point, on everything, and had a wonderful personality! She kept our drinks refilled, checked on us as needed, but not too much, and took away our dirty plates, right on time. A couple other Employees also came by and took away some of our dirty plates, as they have a total team effort, at North Star! The other thing that really impressed us, was that the owners (Jeff and Amy), stopped by our table to make sure everything was great, and it was! By the way, they have great dinner rolls. Oh, and Jeff suggested we try their bread pudding for desert, and Debbie explained it, in detail, and said it comes with ice cream on top-that is now one of our top deserts, ever! I almost forgot-we also tried their chicken fried steak, and it was also delicious. So was their sautéed veggies. Also, Jeff took a picture with us, outside, under their Star, when we were done! Our overall experience, was 5 Star! PS: We have leftovers! LOLLLLLL

My guy took me here for my birthday. We enjoyed our dinner, the atmosphere, the steak was bomb!! Waitress mentioned it was less busy than usual, however, we enjoyed ourselves and plan to go back. Plus if you go for your birthday you get your steak discounted. Win win!

This place was awesome. A friend of mine recommended it and I wish I knew about this sooner. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. I was very impressed and will definitely be coming here again.

I've never had a Bad Experience here. Great service and the food is top notch. Just make sure you call ahead and make a reservation if possible. Otherwise you may be in for a very long wait.

Their aged ribeyes are Topeka’s best steaks in my opinion. The potato hash is a wonderful and unique compliment. The establishment still carries remnants of its speak easy days, a little darker, candlelit and cozy atmosphere.

North Star is authentic and rich in history. When I want a great steak with classy music in an relaxing atmosphere I go here. Blue cheese dressing still made from scratch.
It does get busy so reservations are recommended, but not necessary.

Went for my boyfriend’s parents 50th wedding anniversary and the service and food were superb!! 10/10 I always recommend this steakhouse when someone wants delicious food and great service!
