El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant

This place seems to have a loyal cult following. Many of the folks sitting in there seem to be friends and family. In fact, one person visiting said he's brought his kid there since she was two. And they live in Smithville which isn't close by.

The chorizo was very tasty. The refried beans are chunky in a good way. We will have to come here again and try their tacos

A beautiful homey sit down restaurant. A true family ran establishment. The foods pretty good too. Starting off this place has two different salsas options, that’s a huge quality change. You can get mild or hot, most places only have a singular option. Service was golden, waitress was timely, attentive and efficient.

I have been going to this restaurant for my whole life. The family is amazing and the food is constantly the best American Mexican around. Best hand pinned tacos in town!!!

Great authentic Mexican restaurant in Claycomo!! I went for Taco Tuesday when their tacos are only $1.25 each. Their tacos are prepared "pinned" and are awesome!! The salsa and chips came out still warm!! They have an extensive menu but I always seem to stick with the pinned tacos. The Mexican chili is also excellent!!
They are also open for breakfast. I highly recommend the bacon and chorizo breakfast burrito with white queso on top!!! Delicious!! The restaurant has been run by the same family for 55 years!!

Family type atmosphere, really good food, and great service!!!

Arrived for an early dinner and had hot fresh chips right out of the fryer with white queso and when they say large they mean large. Ordered the tacos and they did not disappoint, sometimes considered puffy tacos. These were deep-fried shells with your choice of cheese shredded cheddar or parmesan or both if you like.

Amazing food. Amazing service. This is my new breakfast spot. Chips and hot sauce before breakfast get me going for the day. And Larry is one of the nicest people ever. He's has such a great spirit. You can't go wrong eating the food here.

Great food. 2 beef tacos 2 beef enchiladas 1 bean tostada rice and beans for $14. Very good. Highly recommend.

This place was a monthly (sometimes weekly) tradition for us when we were growing up in the 80s and 90s. The cheese and onion enchiladas and hard shell tacos are the best I've had anywhere and while I have since graduated to much spicier things, the mild salsa here is ground zero for my lifelong salsa addiction. We had a lot of good times here and are going to miss this place dearly. Thank you.

Not fancy but service and food are outstanding. Great salsa, solid margaritas, freshly fried chips! This is Tex mex done in the best way!

I am 65 and I started going there when I was 18 to 20 or so. Cinco De Mayo 2023 was their last day. Sorry to see them go. I retired from Ford Motor Co. Which is just down the road. It was good to Ford employees there sending it in style. I guess the important thing is the food was great and the staff are friendly and work very hard. Sad to see it go.

This place is a Northland treasure that has been around for as long as I can remember.
There is a reason the locals still love it and love going there.

The chips were fresh and still hot, the mild sauce was the best picante sauce I've tasted in all of Missouri! Everything tasted like it was made from scratch. The plates were hot and the cheese was gooey hot and delicious! The best Mexican Restaurant, I personally, have ever been to!

Love this place and cannot wait to go back. The hot salsa they bring to the table is amazing as are the margaritas! I had fajitas and hubby had enchilada. Both were tasty and perfect portions.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants! Grew up going to the restaurant with my family and friends. I live in Florida now but I always stop here when I come to town. Amazing service and DELICIOUS food. The mild salsa and hot chips are so good! The Mexican chili with yellow cheese pork burrito is my favorite. Yummmm!

Family owned Tex Mex restaurant that is a local staple. Unique family recipes adorn a menu full of deliciousness. Way more flavor than other Tex Mex options in the area. Prices are more than fair. We love El Sombrero!

We celebrated my Mom's 78th birthday at an old family favorite! We hadn't been back to El Sombrero in decades but it was like we were just there days ago. The smells,the atmosphere, the food not to mention the awesome wait staff! El Sombrero did not disappoint, we will definitely be back soon!

Service was fast & friendly. Tables were clean & comfy. Complimentary chips were warn & crispy and salsa was great. Asked for hot salsa as well and got it immediately. Ordered a combo plate with tacos, enchiladas, tostada, rice & beans. Food arrived within 10 minutes. Everything was delicious! Prices are perfectly reasonable. We recommend El Sombrero highly and will definitely visit again!

The food is outstanding. I order the beef enchiladas with extra sauce. It is a comfortable, family place, or cozy couples place, as they have both tables with chairs and booths. The service is friendly as well because it is a family owned restaurant. Would highly recommend if you want an authentic Mexican flavor palette. A great place to have a fun party with friends and family.

Omg! Hands down my new favorite restaurant since moving to KC the owner Larry made me feel so welcome, remembered my date which I imagine to take some effort as I saw him greet each person to walk through the door as if they were family. The wait staff is always friendly. The food i cannot say enough good about. I CRAVE the dishes they offer I always want to try something new which is covered by their large selection of combo meals. Our waitress remembers our drink orders. If you get the chance, eat here!
