Charming long-running shop with a plethora of handmade chocolates, mints, hard candies, and jelly candies. Saw a cinnamon hard candy demonstration by the owners, Warren and Jill, who were informative and so kind! Got to sample a fresh cinnamon drop. The building includes the candy counters, deli/cafe, small museum of old candy memorabilia, and a seating area with more displays of candy for purchase. Great place to take kids and to buy gifts!

Went to Louisville for a wedding a couple of months ago and I was staying across in river in Jeffersonville. Around the corner from our Air BNB we find this candy or should I say "confectionary" shop. Little did I know that this was one of the oldest candy/ confectionary stores in the USA. Walking into Schimpff's is like walking into a candy making museum / store / factory. I am pretty sure all the candies are made in house. Tons of choices of chocolates, toffee and taffy, hard candies and other sweet and delicious fancies. Family owned since 1891, they make it a point that the candy making history is preserved in artifacts, displays and demonstrations. One of the highlights is the candy making demonstrations where they make various "drops" of candy. The staff are friendly and are happy to tell you about the history of the store. Warren and Jill are the current owners and Warren is wealth of candy knowledge. He can answer almost any candy related question!! A must see when stopping by the Louisville / Jeffersonville area. Thanks Warren for all the history!! 5 stars!!!!

Fantastic little shop! This is a must see gem in the city. Candy making at its finest. We spoke with one of the family members for a bit and he gave us such a history of the business and the building. Decades of history to see first hand.

First time in Louisville and first time to this historic candy/chocolate store - amazing! It was a great place to pick up some treats to take back home as gifts! Old time favorites and local specialties. The store is an amazing experience in its own right. You get to see how candy is made.....a lot of historic pieces and the store itself is like a museum. It is a chocolate candy lovers walkthrough memory lane. The servers were amazing to deal with and they offer samples of their core product- cinnamon Red Hots. We weren't actually going to buy them but after tasting them ......YUM!! We bought a very large package just for ourselves. They have a lot of literature about the history of the store which for people who are first time visitors is something exceptional. We didn't have enough time but should we ever be back in the city it would be very nostalgic to sit and have an old fashioned milkshake and some diner food. Beside the Red Hots we also picked up peanut butter meltaways, caramel hearts and a few Modjeska......highly recommend.

Every visit to Kentucky ends up in a stroll across the Big 4 Bridge into Jeffersonville Indiana. And every walk ends up in Shimpff's Confectionery! The breadth of their offerings I haven't seen anywhere else. This visit we discovered the museum they created. I love history and to be able to read the founders immigration papers and first lease is fun and eye opening to do.

This place was like stepping back in time, and in a good way!! The nostalgia and history are present from the sidewalk. A free viewing of how candy is made that even the kids enjoyed! Everyone was friendly and prices were reasonable. Highly recommend!

Schimpffs is the best vintage confectionery in the area! Not only do they have live shows where they demonstrate how the candy is made, but also a museum of candy, and a small cafe where you can pick up lunch. The candy is as sweet as the people they employ. Definitely worth a visit!

It was nostalgic! You could really feel the history here with all of the wall deco. Santa was a big part of it too. The museum was nice, and watching the candy makers was really amazing! My friend Patty and I got to sample warm Red Hots! Fantastic! The chicken salad was good too. I can't wait to return!

//GOOD:
— friendly staff; everyone appeared to love their job and this makes such a positive difference
— entering the store takes customers to another world in another time, making it a great escape
— each time I have visited, candy makers where showcasing their skills; usually at least one hard candy and one chocolate candy assembly in full display; it is such a treat to watch
— definitely one of the larges selections of candy and chocolates in the metro area; I’m guessing about three quarters of it being made in-house
— bonus: just visiting is a treat for your nose
— store is sectioned off in different areas including dining areas (ice cream and small deli), retail, and candy assembly
— one back room even houses a candy museum!

//CAUTIONS:
— it gets crowded (a caveat of being popular)

//SUMMARY: If you want a mini-EPCOT or -Gatlinburg experience for just a few hours, combine a Schimpff’s visit with one of the many restaurants that a just steps away.

This place is right out of an old movie!!! Candy counters in the front and a little diner in the back!! In the room to the left was discounted Easter candy and merch. To the right was really cool memorabilia and a LIVE demonstration of lemon drops!!
Such a great place to check out with friendly and helpful staff!

Love the smell of the freshly made red hots . They still make them the old fashion way. They do demonstrations and hand out free samples . So many delicious candies , chocolates , and a soda fountain shop either ice cream and small eats. There is even a small museum inside. It is one my favorite old time candy stores. Always a favorite to stop at when we are in the area.

I WAS IN HEAVEN !!!! Transported to childhood when I walked in. Such a lovely store . Very easy to find . We bought an assortment of candies. My favorite being the Jordan almonds!!! But many to choose from.i was disappointed at the counter. ( I understand it was Valentine’s Day .) The woman helping me seemed put out and impatient. Definitely made it uncomfortable. I will go back, but maybe just choose another person.

We like to have lunch here once on a while, they are very affordable and have cafeteria style lunch. Our favorite is their "real cherry coke " its delicious! They have demos of how they make the red hots every now and then and you get to taste them after they are finished making them, which is a great experience. The customer service is good. There is a little museum so you can see how far the candy making pocress has come. There is a lot of history in this little candy shop, and its worth checking out!

Very friendly staff and great selection of candies 🍬 🍭 they are here in the heart of downtown for over 110 years, stablished in 1891. So if you are in the area you should pay them a visit. They are couple minutes walk away from big for station bridge. I recommend try their dark chocolate caramel turtle candy!!
