Great little store with the best prices. Don't know what that other reviewer was talking about with 'racial profiling.' Looks like all his reviews are negative.

This place is such a quiet gem. I stopped in before an event at Louiza across the street yesterday and was blown away by both the unique section tags for the bookshelves and Fred the owner's warmth when checking out. We had a great conversation about poetry and I'm looking forward to coming back someday soon.

This book store is an amazing resource for this city. They have a collection of carefully scouted and meticulously cleaned books. Yes, some have the Multnomah County Library stamp on top, that's because it's a difficult book to find and buy as individuals and these wonderful people at Black Hat have done that work for you. All the staff, as well as owner Fred, are pleasant and very helpful. If you have the time, please please please check out their upstairs collection of rare books (not for sale but an insane amount of knowledge up there). Finally, if you are part of the BIPoc community, please go in and see possibly the only book store that has our stories in it not as an afterthought but as fully legitimate and important.

I LOVE this bookshop! It has such a great variety and selection to choose from. I spent way too long browsing the first time I went in and left with 5 books I didn't plan on getting, but am so glad I did. Fred is wonderful to talk with and ordered a book I asked about, which I was able to pick up on my next visit. The last time I was there, a sign was posted 20% off for BIPOC individuals. Highly recommend!

This is a wonderful secondhand bookshop! It appears smallish at first glance but the selection of books is wide-ranging and impressive. There are no mediocre books in here. It reminded me of one of the better secondhand shops in London or Paris. The owner, Fred, is extremely well-read and helpful. On top of it all, the books are reasonably if not cheaply priced. I'm looking forward to returning there soon!

A small bookstore with an interesting selection. They carry black history, books on feminist topics and a number of other eclectic things. They have some stock and a library upstairs. Whoever picked their science fiction and fantasy section has good taste.

Really neat place with a small but wonderfully eclectic collection of books. Very cozy and had a great chat with the staff member on duty. Prices are very reasonable. I'd recommend stopping by if you're not looking for something specific but just want to browse. You'll probably find something you didn't even know you needed!

Very cool place. My wife and I just stopped in and talked to the owner Fred for a bit. They had a selection of books from different cultures and even langauges. Everything from sci fi to poetry. If you are looking to broaden your horizons this store is the place to go.

I went for a Monday evening theme/book share that had a culturally diverse mix of interesting people. I was welcomed and included...and so many thought provoking books available. Thank you ✌

The building is like a grandmother's house. The books are very affordable here. The shopkeeper helped me find the books I needed, but I also found many by simply exploring. I'll be back.
