Shengxing Station

A decommissioned railway station that was preserved to became a tourist attraction.
The station now provide another form of sight-seeing train rides that needs online booking.
Nearby 幐兴老街 Shengxing Old Street showcased Hakka culinary eats and tourist gifts and handicraft shops.

This is an old railway that was decommissioned 2 decades ago. Now there are these electric mountain rails that you can ride on that takes you through tunnels and different stations! This is a well built system, and you even stop in the middle to shop around! Totally worth it, but you have to make sure to reserve in advance for tickets if you wanted to get on

It's crowded when we get there. Have to book a ticket in advance to avoid any delay on your trip. Need to check on their website.

What a fun experience. Expected the railroad ride to be longer, but nevertheless a great view with delicious samples along the way. So much fun. Great location for pictures.

This was an unexpected find. We went to Miaoli to visit the Hakka village and the old train station. It's a quaint little place. When we arrived, to our delight we found that they had set in place rail bikes on the old railroad tracks. We rode it all the way to the abandoned train viaduct. It was a fun way to visit the area, although you wouldn't see anything spectacular along the way till you reach the viaduct. It is interesting to see how nature had taken over man-made structures. To reach Miaoli, It's an hour and a half train ride from Taipei main station. Then another half an hour taxi ride to the village.

There's a few food shops around, and a bakery and coffee shop in the station area.

Good but no spot for the day for us. We arrived at 12 but the whole tickets were already gone for riding the train.

Perfect spot for a day trip at a heritage site if you enjoy the mountain and Hakka food. Shops close quite early. Booking a rail bike is recommended and you may have an early dinner and see the fireflies.

I really like the old railway station. Do allow more time to explore the old streets and pop into the shops. You might have an accidental find and buy some small gifts as souvenirs.
