The place was nice to sit for sometime but may be more good in summer as the rope can be slippery in rainy seasons. And be careful sometimes the insects fall on your body from the above trees.

Nice little stream, nothing super special but calming atmosphere. It's 342 steps down to the pothole, we counted :)

Not well sign posted and Google maps not ideal unless you search for Maokong Potholes.

Not really sure why it's called a pothole but nevertheless, it's quite a peaceful and serene spot. A small stream flows underneath the bridge and there are a number of benches where you can sit and relax. Exercise caution whenever it is damp or there's a rainfall as the stairs do become somewhat slippery

"Maokong" corresponds to two Chinese characters "貓空". Translating these two characters literally will give us "cat" and "empty", which actually mis-interpret the original name. In Taiwanese, “cat” and “empty” carry similar sounds of “wrinkled” and “holes", respectively. The original name of this area is “wrinkled holes”. The holes were formed on the rocks in the creek by the running water. The rocks were worn by the water and holes were created on the rocks. You must come to “Maokong Potholes” to see the creek and the holes for yourself. This small hanging bridge in the photo is very cute, and you can see the holes from here.

(Pothole)
