梅子鰻蒲燒專賣店 Umeko Japanese Unagi Restaurant

Visited Umeko for my dad's birthday celebration and was not disappointed. Umeko have two outlets right across each other, one with taiwanese and the other with japanese cuisine, so do not enter the wrong one. We order 3 of their set meals (~NT$780) and a few ala carte dishes to share among us, as we werent very hungry and we couldnt be more than satisfied and full.

I had their miso-grilled codfish and it was my favourite. The fish melts in your mouth and the miso marinade have a great balance, bringing out the natural sweetness of the fish but giving its own savoury twist.

We also tried their salt grilled mackerel and the chef/owner even gave us tips on how to nicely savor the different parts of the fish to have a full experience of different flavours and textures.. He provided some finely grated radish with ponzu as a freebie to eat with the fish. Excellent service from the owner! The lamb ribs were great as well. I have never been a fan of lamb but this ribs were really tender and not gamey at all. My dad loved it!

The set lunch comes with an appetizer (sashimi or avocado handroll or shrimp handroll), a side (Fresh tiger prawn with a small serving of potato salad), egg dish (chawanmushi or egg roll), soup (miso or eel), dessert (almond or plum jelly) and of course, a main dish (you get to choose from a pretty extensive list). It was pretty worth it, considering the mains have a good portion size and quality ingredients. The courses were just right with its size and taste, complementing the next.

We of course couldnt miss out on their most famous unagi bento. The unagi is nice and flaky with a tangy yet sweet marinade. The meal tasted great and did not disappoint, but I would not miss out on their other seafood dishes.

I also ordered a few uni nigiri, which were not the best quality but still quite good. A little pricey for its value, but not too bad.

Overall, this restaurant is the one if you are looking for delicious fresh japanese seafood. The servers were very meticulous and considerate to our every needs and wants, which some might find too much but I find it nice and homely. They also gave us great recommendations and were very knowledgable about how to savor their food. Would go back again when im in Taiwan!

Umeko Restaurant was an absolute gem 💎.

It was highly recommended by a friend of mine and when I did a Google search of the restaurant, it had over 2.3k positive reviews. Thankfully, I was still able to secure a dinner reservation.

The eel was grilled just right and glaced with a teriyaki sauce over a bed of rice. The drizzle was done nicely without being overly salty. Becuase it was so yummy, I wished that they could have served up a lil more rice. 🍚

The prawn tempura we ordered was also deep fried to perfection and it was not at all oily. The prawns were fresh and the pumpkin slices paired very well with the tempura dip.

We had also managed to order giant sotong balls from the neighboring Umeko (Taiwanese cuisine) 😅

The restaurant had a nice, steady flow of customers, striking a perfect balance between bustling and overcrowded.

The Japanese-inspired interior design and the attentive staff who offered great recommendations on their signature dishes made it even better.

I read this Google review, calling it a "culinary journey to Japan in the heart of Taipei," and I couldn't agree more.

If you find yourself in the area and need of a dining spot, I can't recommend Umeko enough. This place truly lives up to its well-deserved praise. 🍣🫶🏻

Saw this restaurant with thousands of good reviews so decided to try it. Ordered ala carte menu and a dinner set. The miso cod fish, yakitori, chawamushi, mentaiko squid, prawn salad were fantastic. The waitresses were attentive to the kids and one of them is from Singapore :) Raining heavily after the dinner and the waitress offered to send us to the main road to grab a cab back to hotel; wonderful service from the crew. Had a wonderful dinner. Thank you!

1st time visited this restaurant. We love the food, vibe, and services rendered by the staff here. If you wonder what should you ordered, please ask the staff and they will explain everything to you patiently. The special set menu is highly recommended. We love the shrimp salad, sashimi, and clamp miso soup, which is served with the special set menu as compared with the Healthy set menu.
Of course, the Eel rice bento is yummy.
For the dessert, I love the plum jelly the most.
We will definitely come back again next time.

There are many Japanese restaurants in this area, so it's not easy to make a choice, but we're glad we ended up here. They had a nice set meal that we went for with several courses of seafood, grilled fish, steamed egg, and dessert. Very friendly service!

Delicious and portion is great. But there was a new girl there being very unprofessional. She tried to collect my dish when I was literally chewing LOL and rude too.

It was great!! Great service and great food. My mom and I went today, and left very happy! I would recommend it to anyone who comes to Taipei!

Their most popular dish is the eel bento and it was delicious! It came with a salad, your choice of egg (my boyfriend and I got one of each), sashimi, miso soap and choice of jelly dessert.

I’m not a fan of raw fish but my boyfriend is and he enjoyed the sashimi. He said the chef didn’t cut it very well so it felt like he was biting a chuck of fish but it was very fresh LOL

The white jelly was almond and the brow was plum. We liked the almond one but the plum was we didn’t enjoy as much. I feel like it’s a flavor that older people would enjoy haha.

Overall, great experience and the staff were super friendly and interested where we were from since we spoke minimum mandarin. We definitely come back if we are back in Taiwan!

Easy casual restaurant for late diners. Very delicious Unagi rice. The Sashimi and grill squid were also good. Helpful and kind staffs.

My partner and I enjoyed the unagi here. Unlike the restaurants where they go heavy on the sauce, this una sauce is lighter so we got to taste more of the fish. Shows they are confident that’s it’s fresh! Also had their sashimi and it was really good!

So happy I went here before I had to leave Taiwan. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and had English menus upon request. I got the half order of unagi don that came with a side of miso soup. When it came out I was pleasantly surprised how big the portion was! The unagi was succulent and cooked perfectly, the eel sauce was not overpowering at all like some restaurants make. Absolutely delicious. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the managers who was very kind and even gave me a complimentary almond jelly dessert at the end which was the perfect palate cleanser after a wonderful meal. She also gave me a tour of their kitchen and showed me how they made their gyozas in house and their eel tank which was well kept. Makes sense why their unagi tasted so fresh.

Such a lovely and unexpected experience that I will remember. Would highly recommend coming here if you want a solid bowl of unagi! It gets really popular during dinner time so try going before or after the rushes, also don't forget to bring your cash!

Definitely a good restaurant with good food and an ok drink selection. The highlight is that kobayaki unagi over rice is just heavenly. That sashimi with the upgraded salmon belly is just delectable, with the fish fat accentuating the meat beautifully. The grilled ika is fresh and delicious, as expected. The recommended sake is smooth like water with a daiginjo level of quality. I would say one small thing that I would say that was overbearing was the owner hovering over us while we ate. Other than that, it is as good as it gets.

The dining experience my friends and I had at Umeko was first rate! The staff were very friendly and attentive and every ingredient in every dish was fresh and delicious. We started with a sashimi platter of fresh lobster and tuna. Fantastic. The courses just kept coming after that and each seemed to be even better than the last. Squid balls, calamari, red snapper, all just truly delightful. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. If you're in Taipei, you have to try this place.

As someone who infrequently visits Taipei, every single meal counts! This is a restaurant that truly provides a quality experience. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants in Taipei and this place takes the cake. The eel was delicious, the soup was rich and nutritious, and the dessert was perfectly sweet. The owner of the restaurant is also SO ATTENTIVE. She remembered my party and conversed lightly with us.

I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, ambience, and also affordability. Please go!! You won’t regret it.

The waiter is nice, can speak english too, the EEL is no doubt one of the best that I’ve ever tried. Must try!

I had the set menu and it was delightful, they have an English menu and the waitress explained the options to me. The service is very efficient and the staff are very attentive. I really enjoyed the food, the flavours were great and I was full by the end of it.

Excellent service and food served. The staff were very hospitable even though we had difficulty understanding the menu. Quality of the Japanese food is without a doubt top notch. Will definitely return when visiting Taiwan again.

This is very good service and delicious food here! Also the environment is clean and have air conditioning! We like it very much!
