Enjoyed my stay at a very nice hotel near Ximending. The hotel is special with a rich history reflected in its thoughtful decorations on every floor and room. Despite the old building and district, the hotel appliances are new and in excellent condition. It's very clean, and the owner is super friendly and speaks English. The high score on booking platforms is well-deserved. The price is quite good for the area. Recommended!

Stayed here for 5 days. We liked the vibe and the location. 10 mins walk to subway, and 5 mins to dihua street. Convenience store across the road and nice park/temple on the corner. For any visitors, we recommend going to the local night market which is within 10 mins walk from the hotel. Take a left from the front doors, then walk right once you hit the moan road. Keep walking to 10 mins and you're there.

I highly recommend you to stay here!! I stayed with my partner two separate times during our short 1 week vacation in Taiwan. The owner (?) was kind and personable. There was also an issue with my reservation on Booking that they personally took care of and immediately accommodated (even at a late hour and my lack of initial communication). They also kindly arranged a taxi for us because we were leaving at 4am for the airport during our last stay. An important thing to note (as said by others) for everyone, considering we each have differing abilities, there is no lift/elevator and some of the steps are rather steep. Further, there seems to be a discrepancy between the two rooms we stayed in as well as with photos shared on here by others (our second room had no fridge and was significantly smaller - a bit of a squeeze for 2 people to maneuver around). The sidewalk can get quite dark if you arrive at night, but the neighbors are nice and may direct you. The location is very convenient as multiple bus stops are located a few minutes away as well as a famous old-town district! I recommend getting an herbal drink from the traditional medicine shops and taking a walk around. There’s a family mart slightly across the street from the hotel or a more local (?) shop for immediate essentials! You may have to frequently walk through a temple that the sidewalk goes through to get to/from the hotel, but I would bow my head respectfully every time though it also being a casual hangout spot for the older locals. The hotel’s decoration and overall aesthetic is a beautiful mix between retro and traditional. It’s an older but well maintained building; the rooms are very clean and well sealed up to prevent any critters/bugs. The shower is not separate from the rest of the bathroom, which has me suggest they switch from disposable slippers to reusable rubber ones as it got dangerously slippery after showering to get to the sink/toilet. However, it’d dry overnight! The AC worked like a charm, which was a haven from the August heat outside. They also had umbrellas to borrow for the typhoon/rainy season! Again, thank you for everything! We would definitely stay again! :-)

Great little hotel for female solo travelers, room was cosy and spotless clean, staff was super friendly.
It was a perfect starting point for wandering around the Old Street, exploring food scene, tea shops, vintage clothing and small coffee places.

I stayed for five nights in this charming hotel. It's located in the daodaocheng area (Old Taipei) and you can get to the row of shops just minutes on foot. I even walked to the Ningxia night market. The bus stop is just across the corner if you wanna get to the city centre. Food stalls and convenience stores are all around so you won't go hungry at all.

The room is cosy and it's quiet. It's cleaned daily. I slept like a baby. Basic amenities are sufficient. I appreciate that the ac comes has heater functionality - useful for winter! You can use the common kitchen area if you get takeaway food.

One extra star for the front desk man who's ever helpful, friendly, and has a good taste in music. (Sorry I didn't get your name!)

Note: As this is an old building, there's no lift in the hotel. The staircase is a little steep (although I got a room on the second floor and the front desk man helped me with my luggage when checking in). If you're not mobile or travelling with someone with mobility issues, take note of this.

Awesome atmosphere with unique rooms! Great location with less than 10 mins walk to MRT that gets you everywhere in Taipei! As well as the old town of Taipei with lots of markets and street food! Staff was super friendly and helpful! As I care a lot for the sleep, the sound proof in the room was amazing!!

Jian Shan is a lovely hotel with an exceptionally helpful and friendly staff (@Paul: thanks for all the great tips). It is perfectly located in a lively neighborhood, but still quiet. Everything is clean and well designed.
