Tainan Art Museum Building 1 (for modern arts)

This is an art museum very much in time with its community. Tainan is a smallish town, less urban and so in many ways more interesting than the soaking metropoles.
The curators do as much as they can to bring Artist works to life by including biographical narratives and plain language explanations of the works or their subsets.
So even if you lack the vocabulary of the art world, it becomes easy to connect with the artist and their works.
There are several addresses dedicated to shakers children that let them play with and experiment with art materials.
Very refreshing change from high brow museums that do more to ring fence the works for the 'art elites' than to make their institutions valuable to the general community.

I like the building structure. It’s so beautiful. The building is an old building that surround with art works. You can spend quite some times to walk around with the building enjoy the art work.

There is a place located in the centre of the building. The place is so nice to take a lot photos.

They have 2 buildings. One is old building and the another is new building. You will need to buy ticket to enter both of the buildings.

Museum 2 is a beautifully designed architecture, no matter the outlook or the interior. Museum 1 is converted from a old police station and end extention. Both carry beautiful art work,painting and art selection. Should spend time to visit them. Their guided tour is excellent.

Tainan Art Museum is reformed from police station. Very spacious and a quiet place to appreciate art work. Good place did photo taking.

Great place to visit in Tainan if you are interested in modern art. Nice permanent exhibition. The 2 buildings are about 15 minutes walk apart.

Very good museum in art deco brick 1930s building with several exhibitions and a nice cafe. The buildung was converted from a police station. The area is a good one for walking around, as near many cultural sites and the wonderful Lily Fruit Cafe founded in 1947, where you can get freshly squeezed juices including pomelo plus little local restaurants and a temple.

I came for an exhibition, but the building itself is a special attraction! It was a police station and has been somewhat renovated and turned into an art museum. I love the style of the building and enjoy bathing in the weaving web of summer sunlights and shadow. If you’re looking for something of the Renaissance, I would suggest you to go to Europe. Here in Taiwan, there may not be abundant art types or flourishing era of art, but there is unique local culture that’s specific to this island. To me, this museum is worth visiting a thousand times just to have a relaxing afternoon in a time-intertwined space!

This is my first time to visit Taian arts Museum .
It was designed by Sutejiro Umezawa. The building was constructed in 1931 originally as the Tainan Police Department.It is the earliest existing police station building in Taiwan.
The gallery is so good and beautiful. The theme “ The carving of gaze” - created by 陳正雄. He is an amazing artist. His character are full of vitality . We had a great time. Recommend 👍👍

One of my favorite museum in Taiwan! Adults tickets are 200NT and will let you get into the second museum a few minutes away that’s more dedicated to contemporary art.

Beautiful art museum. The big tree in the middle is very tranquil. Free post card at the gift shop near the exit.

There were three amazing exhibitions when we visited today. And it was the first day for Cheng-Hsiung Chen's work copper tooling. The details on the faces, and postures each and every sculpture was truly remarkable.

I also enjoyed Wu-Yung Hsu centennial exhibition.

The museum space design impressive, exhibitions were well curated. A must visit if you're in Tainan.

Beautiful museum with excellent exhibits and a charming outdoor courtyard. I particularly liked the Judy Ongg exhibit on the first floor.

Tainan Art Museum (TAM) is situated in the Central-West District of Tainan City, where has the highest-density of first-class historic sites, and an abundance of a gifted culture.
TAM consists of two major Buildings. The architectural design harmonizes elements of both historical and modern to demonstrate the texture of a profound history and culture of Tainan.

It is a beautiful space that always has interesting shoes from both classical and contemporary artists in Taiwan.

Love how new and old building connected to each other and the renovation is really great!

While it is not as popular as its sister building 2 it is definitely worth a visit. The place is quieter, spacious and has a very beautiful garden in the middle.
