A beautiful old port city area to explore by foot or bike (best by bike as there are many places for you to visit). The streets are quite narrow and there is a beautiful fort turn museum located over a hill. Foreign European consulates were located in this area, as here used to be a thriving trading ports and continues to present day. There are lots of beautiful old trees in the areas and old houses.

One of the oldest places in Taiwan 🇹🇼 also one of the places you can get to do street shopping. Traditional temples are the main attraction along with an old fort. The shops are small but really good things can be bought here. From traditional taiwan fans to traditional food is easily available and at good prices. The people are very friendly and i was surprised that we were allowed to bargain with the shop owners, I guess it's an Indian habit. Some shops belong to other countries selling traditional items as well and they are a must visit as well. I would definitely recommend shopping here. The food is good as well.

This place is amazing. Lots of food varieties. I find this street market unique with many many choices.
Also it was super crowded, may be because of the Tainan lantern festival during chinese new year 2024z

A fun place to walk around, for sure. Well worth a visit as it has a very different vibe from the historic district of Tainan. However, there’s not much happening until about 11:00. We arrived quite early…only interesting if you’re specifically interested in the action on the wharf. In that case you’d best arrive at the break of spawn. Meanwhile, it’s not the fort or the touristic “spots” so much as just the life on the back streets and the picturesque temples that interested me.

Nice town with a laid-back atmosphere. Easy to explore around on foot. Must visit the Anping Tree House.

Lots of street food and old historic streets in this area. It's very artsy and shows you an idea of what life looked like in the past. I walked around the alleys snapping photos of the sword lions and trying different snacks. I ended up walking towards the river and came across the sword lion park! I bought a lot of prawn crackers which I heard is a traditional local snack that people make in Anping.

Anping Old Street is also surrounded by atmospheric historic alleyways where you can stumble upon ancient temples, traditional rammed earth houses (土角樓), and images of lions with swords in their mouths, traditional house markers which have become a symbol of Anping. The actual street name of Anping Old Street is Yanping Street (延平街). The Old Street starts on Castle Street (古堡街) just a few steps south of the southeastern corner of the Anping Old Fort grounds.

Most of the stalls and shops on Anping Old Street don’t open until 11 AM or noon, so I don’t recommend going there until lunchtime. Most of them close around 6 or 7 PM, after which the street is very quiet. I also noticed that many stalls seem to close one day per week, usually Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, so those days aren’t ideal.

I recommend visiting Anping Old Street at the end of your explorations in Anping. It makes most sense to start your day at Anping Mazu Temple (opens 5 AM), then Anping Old Fort (opens 8:30). The entrance to the fort is just behind the temple. The exit of the fort naturally leads to Anping Treehouse.

Tainan is so deeply rooted with variety of cultures: Dutch, Han Chinese, Local Siraya Aborigines, Japanese so you sometimes feel like time stopped here for a little but or at least it goes much slower than in Taipei. and I admire it.
You can go along Old Street close to Anping Fort entrance and find whatever specialities you like.

Fun area with lots of little shops and vendors. Be sure and explore all the little streets and alley ways to get a feeling for the history of the place. Lots of temples and original Qing Dynasty era houses and family temples.

I love the oyster omelette here! You can go to the harbour. Sometimes there is live music too. You can enjoy it for free! ❤

Truly charming experience. An ancient city with deep roots to imperial China. Saw many old treats that used to exist in Singapore but have now been forgotten. Glad to see they’re still alive here.
