Shenkeng Old Street

Beautiful old street a bit of a distance away from Taipei City. This place is worth a visit even though the journey by Metro and bus is around 1 hour. The street snacks and the food at the sit down restaurants are all very delicious. The food here is nice but seems a tad expensive (probably because the area feels quite touristy). After visiting this Old Street, you can also visit Shiding Old Street which is only 15 minutes away by bus.

In the past old time, Shenkeng was the only way to go from Taipei to Yilan. This place is surrounded by mountains and looked like a big pit, so it got the name "Shenkeng".

During the Qing Dynasty, Shenkeng's agricultural products such as tea were carried from the mountains to the river and transported by boat. It became a lively and busy, since then the old street is formed and become a tourist spot nowsaday.

There are 4 treasure at there which is toufu, tea leaf, black pork meat and green bamboo shoots. we have tried the stingy toufu at the famous wang shui cheng shop, also taste the award winning plum wine. Don't forget to take photo with the big old tree at the junction which is the landmark of Shenkeng old street.

This place has many unique food not found in night markets. Good reasonable prices and friendly shop owners. I enjoyed my time.

An old street with small shops on both sides. It's very traditional and should visit at least once. the price is not so exciting but are fair comparing to other markets in general. 😅

Just take the taxi or bus no.660, 666, 819 from Muzha Metro Station, about 15-20 minutes away.

We took a few busses from Taipei Main Station to get here in the afternoon. It was quite a long journey but the Old Street and food was worth it! I'm a huge fan of old streets and I loved walking along this short but sweet street taking in the sights and smells of stinky tofu. I've been wanting to try authentic stinky tofu for ages and I was not disappointed by the choices or the taste. The price was good too! We got the stinky tofu pot, fried stinky tofu and steamed stinky tofu. They were all wonderful. There are a few retro shops selling old snacks and toys and shopping inside was like exploring a time capsule. I highly recommend everyone flying to Taipei to make a trip out to Shenkeng!

In 2024 Chinese lunar new year ,I took my family came here to enjoy the holiday , it's truly distinctive here. Shenkeng stinky tofu is extremely famous, and I personally love eating it. While many foreigners might not be accustomed to its flavor, for Taiwanese people, it's truly a delicacy, especially here in Shenkeng. I recommend it to foreign friends visiting northern Taiwan. If you have the chance to come to Taiwan, be sure to take a stroll in Shenkeng!

Fantastic old street with old houses and a lot of different shops. Come here for stingy tofu. It’s just delicious. I swear.

Shenkeng Old Street (深坑老街) was once an important gateway for commerce. Now it is a popular (and crowded) heritage destination. Famous for its tofu, you can find numerous stores selling stinky tofu, fried tofu, spicy tofu, tofu hotpot, tofu dessert and more. Also many souvenirs store with locally made products. More for those seeking a local and historic experience. Many old buildings and on a leas populated day (if there be one), lots of opportunities for great photos.

Away from the urban jungle, this rustic Tofu Street will capture your imagination, selling Tofu related products, eg ice cream, mochi, food fares!

Charming place. Tons of places selling food especially tofu (may or may not be stinky). There's also souvenir shops and lots of places selling plum wine. I'd recommend to go if you happen to drop nearby!

Diverse tofu food here and some good traditional architectures remain.

Though sometimes crowded and the historic sites are not all maintained perfectly … still a place that you could enjoy and memorize the old scenes.

Shenkeng Old Street is definitely one of my favourite places to visit in New Taipei City. The thing this are is most famous for is its stinky tofu, which is a fermented tofu that can come in a grilled variety or in a soup. Both are delicious. The street itself gives of a warm and historic atmosphere that makes a walk through special. It can be very crowded on weekends, so if you are able to visit on a weekday, I would definitely recommend it.

Shenkeng old street is good to spend time with whole family. Can bring your kids to enjoy what you has been eat during 90's century childhood. There are a lot 90's tibits , toys , and games. Elderly might like the old style of the shop. Can buy foods and keychain for memory. Why know 1 very famous and good medicine, pearl cream 精汉堂珍珠膏，can get from here. Speedy recovery for those cut and injury. 对烫伤，刀伤，皮肤炎非常有效。

Too many stinky tofy stands, overall is a good getaway from the city.

This area is famous for the varieties of tofu meals, and the special taste of its local tofu. Public transportation is convenient. You may come here from either the MRT Mucha station (br02) or the Taipei Zoo station (br01) via local buses.

Awesome old tourist street for plenty of stinky tofu and shopping. Plan in about 2 hours including some street snacks. Skip the tofu ice cream but do sample the grilled tofu on a stick if you are feeling brave. Public toilet is alright but BYOTP (bring your own toilet paper!).

Very nice old street. Very clean. So many specialized tofu restaurants here. Also, try soy milk or tofu based gelato ice cream.
