One of Turkey's finest collections of carpets and flat-weave rugs ishoused in the İmaret building, the mosque's former soup kitchens. The collection includes pieces weaved throughout Anatolia between 14th and 20th centuries The first gallery is dedicated to carpets from the Seljuk Empire, the second gallery displays carpets produced during the height of the Ottoman Empire, and the third gallery shows more recent carpets and prayer rugs from Uşak.

Went on a field trip here with students. They loved the motifs. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I would recommend going for a short trip.

A small relatively new museum located in the old kitchens of Hagia Sophia. The arrangement of the three galleries is impressive and very professional. The carpets are magnificent. Curation notes are very informative. If these carpets could speak what stories they would tell. Well worth visiting.

If you like carpets then this is the place for you. There are three separate displays to view. There is some very helpful information relating to dating and identifying what type of carpet that you might be lucky enough to own.

Historical building which is right next to Hagia Sophia. It has ancient, historical handmade Ottoman rugs. One should definitely see. Not a big building, but must see if you are around Sultanahmet.

One of the Old City's great secret is the Carpet Museum in the imaret (soup kitchens) of Ayasofya, reached through an imposing domed gate opposite the Ahmet III Fountain. Its three rooms show a more dynamic, less conversative view of the nation's textile heritage than the nearby Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts. The first room has the classic carpets lvoed by carpet enthusiasts. The second moves from the court to Anatolia, mixing regional designs with traditional medallion ones. (Cornucopia Mag. issue 60)

A hidden gem behind all the major touriat attractions. Just get in and let all the colors lead you to an amazing journey of 100s of years through the great treasures of Anatolia.

What I love most in the Kilim museum, is the history that is interwoven in the carpet itself... To think that a tribal lady has acctually sat days and months to weave it by hand, no machins and modern stuff - truelly amazing...

It is hard to imagine that after all of the wars and turmoil in this area, that it would be possible to preserve carpets, some that were over 500 years old. Yet here they are! This is an amazing collection of incredibly old weaving.
