USAF Bayrkli Park

Bayrkli Park was used by the U.S. military up into the 2000's as a location for military personnel and their families who were stationed in Izmir for recreation. The swimming pool appears to still be in place although not usable. In the early 80' there was a snack bar located in an old warehouse across from the pool. In approximately 1982 an indoor racquet ball court was built directly behind the pool and was later used as a small convenience store called a shopette by AAFES. The DODDS high school would use the park for many activities for the sports teams including soccer, tennis, cross country, track and field and prior to 1982 football. There was a SCUBA club located in the back corner of the park that provided training to obtain a SCUBA license. There was also a small playground with picnic tables. In the mid 2000's when dependants were no longer living in Izmir a lot of services that were found in the city were moved to Bayrkli Park such as the barber, APO, and travel agency.
