Long Neck Tribe Village

The village of long-neck women of Padaung tribe of Karen people (the total population of Karen is about 9 million people).
The entrance ticket costs 300 bath only. Women sell handicrafts made of thread, wood, metal, stone, feathers... Making an average scarf takes 2-3 days. So, please, support these beautiful people and pay more, if you can. Giving from a pure heart, we get richer! The weight of neck rings can reach 5 kg. Simple life with unusual tradition. 🪷🙏❤

치앙마이에 오면 제일 가 보고 싶었던 곳이 카렌족 마을이었다.
하지만 입장과 동시에 같은 사람을 돈 주고 관람을 한다는것에 미안함을 느끼게 되며 그들을 똑바로 보기가 힘들었다.
500바트라는 입장료는 단순한 재미와 볼거리로는 전혀 가치가 없지만 이들의 생계에 필요한 의미의 관람료라면 가치가 있다는 생각이 들었다.
그들의 물건을 필요 이상으로 구매하고 사진을 무상으로 찍는것이 미안하여 조금의 팁을 주었지만
팁을 주면서도 내가 팁을 주는게 맞는지 틀린지 복잡한 마음이었다. 결국 우리 가족은 원래의 루트대로 걷지 않고 중간에 포기하고 그 마을을 나왔다.
이 경험을 전혀 후회하진 않지만 마음은 여전히 불편하다. 안 좋은 평이 많아서 이 마을 방문을 주저하는 사람들이 있다면 그들의 삶에 도움도 되고 나의 호기심도 충족 되는 것에 초점을 맞추고 간다면 주저하지 않아도 될것이다.
