This is one of the most popular Buddhist sacred place in Chiang Mai for Thai to make a merit and pray for a good luck and good fortune for their work, life, love and job. There is a car parking available near to the temple just a short walk.
Behind the temple there is a good view point for the scenery of Chiang Mai city.

If you are a person / tourist who like to know more about Thailand and their belief and culture this is good place for you to see it and learn from them. It gets so crowded really fast so you might want to visit early here . A lot of people flying just to get here so thousands of people everyday . Have fun 🤩

Worth going up! Very authentic atmosphere, it's nice to take a walk around. The view is not that good because the air pollution is terrible in that area.

Definitely worth the short journey from Chiang Mai center, as the winding road into the hills offers a pleasant ride and a cooler temperature than the city. There is little shade when you reach this destination though.

This old temple has an interesting history and associated legends. There is plenty to see with shrines not just to Buddha but to Hindu deities as well.

It is a very popular destination for local tourists so don't expect to be able to get photos without people in them.

The viewpoint is a nice area though if you are not asian you will have to pay 50 baht.

Great temple. Get a grab to go directly and just call a grab again to go back. They are easy to find don't worry.

This wat (temple) was featured in a Netflix movie titled “Worship” about various practices in Thailand. The ride to the top of the hill is beautiful. There are plenty of ways to make merit here, and for reflection and meditation. They also have amulets!

visited on 9/12/2024.... The temple is on top of a hill...... Driving along the hill is still manageable.... Parking is quite limited..... View is beautiful and there are lots of people doing merits..... Remember to cover knees when you enter the temple....

Wat Phra That Kham was only a 10 minute grab ride for me from where I’m staying but from the city centre it’s at least 20-25 minutes. Definitely worth visiting such breathtaking experience of temples, Buddha statues, view point of Chiang Mai and places to eat. Free entry but make sure you donate to support the local.

I went during the weekday and the crowds weren’t as busy as a weekend. Easily spend an hour or two hours to fully explore the place. You can also hike to the viewpoint but I didn’t get the opportunity to do that maybe next time when I visit again.

Recommended by my friend to visit this temple. She had her prayers answered so she was back to payback the deed. Apparently there is a specific way to pray in this temple for you to fulfil your prayers. However they are written in Thai, get someone to translate for you or you can try google translating the photo of the poster above the prayer area

It’s a beautiful temple - 20mins drive from the riverside South of Chiang Mai. indrive and bolt works fine costed about 140bath each way. For a first time visit I would suggest at least a couple of hours at the site to wonder around. Recommend.

It is about 10km away from Chiang Mai and you can reach here by motorcycle or Tuktuk. Entrance is free. One of the best holy places i have been. Quality of Buddha statues are really good. You can maybe visit during sunrise as well to watch the city too

Temple on top of the mountain with a beautiful view located just beside chiang mai city center. There’s a 1.5km trek up to the temple and many locals go there to make wishes and prayers. The gold buddha statues look absolutely incredible and breathtaking.

The complex has a lot of temples and stalls at the front. However, at the back, it's very spacious with very beautiful scenery of Chiang Mai from the mountain top.

I visited this big Buddha temple on a weekend evening. It was fairly crowded but not too crowded.

Pros
1. The big Buddha statue is must visit in Chiang Mai.
2. The temple has several status and photo opportunities.
3. It is a view point for Chiang Mai city. We can observe the whole city from here depending upon the weather.
4. The sarangs (the leg covering drape) are available for free.

Cons
1. It is a bit far from the city centre.
2. The road might be tricky for some car drivers. Mostly it is a 2 lane mountain road through a dense forest.

Beautiful temple. Not too far from city and easily reachable by motorbike. View is very nice. My personel idea, it is smaller but better than Doi Suthep.

Wat Phra Doi Kham is a hidden gem nestled in the hills of Thailand. The challenging ascent up steep steps only adds to the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit, where a breathtaking panoramic view awaits. The majestic presence of the giant Buddha is awe-inspiring, offering a perfect photo opportunity. Beyond the temple's cultural richness, the surrounding trekking trails provide an adventurous escape into nature. A visit to Wat Phra Doi Kham is a holistic experience, blending spirituality, physical activity, and the beauty of the Thai landscape. A must-visit destination that earns its five-star rating.
