Was introduced by friendly locals to visit this old temple which have much stories and teachings. It’s a beautiful, magical temple to go to with surprising little tunnels and a huge pagoda to admire, relax beside and the whole place feels surreal, like in a set of an Indiana Jones adventure minus the action. Exploring the temple makes us feel so calm, mesmerised and walked up the spiritual self in us. There are pigeons and fishes to feed where you can purchase feeds at just 10bath. There are so many inspirational & live quotes to discover and reflect. Zen place, highly recommended, must go!

Very beautiful old temple area. When we went there was a modern art exhibition in the tunnel. They have a pond where you can feed fish as well (and a big python swimming in it). Quite exciting! :-) it's just a short walk to the animal sanctuary and even older temple ruins of you fancy.

The temple and its surroundings create a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. At the time of the visit (February 2024), there were only a few visitors. You pay 20 Baht to enter the tunnels.

If you are a fan of feeding pigeons or fish and want to feel like you are in the movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, you can buy a package for 10 Baht.

This is so big big temple with 35 places to go around but actually there are 5 places is private so you can not come in.
No need to buy ticket but you just need to pay 20bth to go inside the tunnel.
This is so amazing temple.

Wat Umong was very kool. The temple grounds were beautiful. We saw chickens, squirrels, bats, and two howling beagles. Inside the tunnels was neat. Went there with Trip Guru and our wonderful guide “Banana”. I would love to go back and explore the whole temple complex

Beautiful Temple surrouding with tall trees. The temple itself is very modest and once stepped in you can sense the serenity throughout the temple ground. The interesting point of attraction is the short tunnel underneath pagoda.

A tranquil setting amongst the trees for this 700 year old temple. Even the local dogs were relaxed!

The oldest temple in Chiang Mai, quite hidden and not crowded, solemn, beautiful.

I used to live in-front of this calm temple for one year.

It is a unique and peaceful temple located on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. What sets this temple apart from others in the area is its location in a forested area, which provides a tranquil and serene atmosphere that is perfect for meditation and reflection. The temple has a large chedi and several meditation caves that were once used by monks seeking solitude and quiet contemplation.

The caves have Budha statues inside and provide a cool respite from the heat outside.

It is a great piece of architecture to observe and admire for an enthusiast.

I read that the tunnel system that runs underneath the temple grounds, were built by the temple's founder, and visitors can explore them to see the various shrines and Buddhist statues that are hidden away in the darkness.

Overall, Wat Umong is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to escape the crowds and experience a more peaceful and contemplative side of Thailand's temple culture. The temple's beautiful forest setting and unique features make it a must-visit for anyone interested in Buddhism or Thai history and culture.

It is a must see temple in Thailand, being so different to mainstream temples.

Incredible fish feeding, possibly some of the best in Thailand. Just watch out for the pesky pigeons!

One bag of fish food was 10THB just next to fish feeding spot.

There is also a temple at this location if that is your kind of thing.

20 bahts for the entry and it’s definitely with the value.
There are quite a few facilities to walk pass. There’s food giving hall, monks resting places and some small stalls.
The building is very old but very nice to walk around.
The very tall building is able to walk one round, maybe can make a wish?
Heard there was river behind, but didn’t manage to go.

Nice to walk around on a short visit, tunnels are short but interesting enough. Has a lake with a lot of fish to feed.

One of the most beautiful temples I’ve visited. The energy is super strong, very well reserved and the tunnels are really magical.
Monks are around as they live there which makes it so special.
A meditation centre is there too which is definitely on my list for the next visit.
Definitely must see.

A peaceful, clean, beautiful place with a Buddha image to worship in the tunnel and good mottos and teachings for living life. Think according to the trees.

A nice temple more hidden between the trees, multiple locations you can visit within (see boards with info). There is also a hall with art from Montien Boonma here.
