Visiting Chiang Mai and not capturing a moment at this iconic tourist spot is almost like you never went. It's incredibly popular, especially for the experience of having birds fluttering all around you. My time spent there was not only fun but made even better by the helpfulness of the Thai locals, who were more than willing to assist in taking those perfect Instagram-worthy shots. All it took was purchasing some food to feed the birds, and the locals were eager to help us capture those memorable moments.

Knew that there is a Sunday Night Bazaar just right inside the Tha Phae Gate, so we choose to visit on Sunday. The gate itself was very crowded, many people wanted to take videos with pigeons, so do we! 😂
After that we straight away entered the night bazaar. The night bazaar is so big! There are a lot of different stalls all along, food, drinks, handcrafted Items, clothes, etc.
All of us were very tired after the walk and we had a foot massage somewhere near the gate.

I was there early in the morning on a weekday so not so many tourists yet. The pigeons were somewhat clumsy in eating food, they ate 1/3 on your palm and dropped the rest on the floor, resulting in more pigeons swarming at your feet. Pretty fun experience. Some people would scare the pigeon to get photos by making loud noise and repelling them away. I don’t know how the pigeons feel about it but I don’t really care. Interesting to observe other tourists as well.

An intriguing and surprising place, full of a mix of people, from locals, students, tourists and families.
Easily accessible by all roads of this walled city, it was great to see the preservation of Chiang Mai's Walled City looking quite splendid in the beautiful sunshine.
Definitely worth a visit as there are lots of markets, eateries and public spaces to explore within Tha Phae Gate area.

I love that place, it’s so historical. Thanks to the street photographers at this place, I and my friends have many great pictures. We honestly love Chiangmai more than Bangkok. And the fee for a shoot is 100 bath but you can bargain with them

Great reminder of the history of Chiang Mai and the Lanna Kingdom.
What this must have looked like when it was first completed would have been a great sight.
Plenty of people like to pose for a photo here so getting a memory here without others in the picture is quite difficult.

The wall with old colour but impressing and beautiful.
It is sunny but not to be shine, there are a lot of big trees so the weather becomes cool.
Also have a lot of pigeons. The view is beautiful and peace.

Always fun to stroll through the Tha Phae gate. There are often festivals or activities here, including formal and informal live music. You can always find food stands and souvenirs. There are many shops on either side of the gate.

🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭"I visited that place in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, which made the accommodations cheaper than usual. Although there is usually a night market, it was closed during our visit due to Covid restrictions. I would love to travel there again."

The gate is nice old builsing. Dont have much to offer day time however night time or even festival season, it gets mad!!! Right, if you're here on the festival season, be prepared. It's crowded!
If you want to be quiet in your own space and feel the atmosphere without the crowd - head to Starbucks ( they got 2 floor) and you can sit comfortably in the AC with your choice of drink in your hand.
It's not recommended to walk here IF you're a wheelchair user and dont like crowd😄
We found McDonald pretty safe

Savage buzz around here for NYE 2023. Lots of lanterns being lit and a countdown stage for it. Great atmosphere. It was very packed though if you’re claustrophobic or a bit anxious about such things. On a regular day it’s a nice oul spot to pass through

The iconic gate in the heart of the City.
When you arrived in Chiang Mai, this gate was stolen my attention. Right after th old quarter, it has surrounded by the red bricks wall along the way. It's stunning.

Always my first spot to be in whenever I’m in Chiang mai. Evenings are the best time to be there.
Only annoying thing is the people posing for pics with the pigeon and the photographers making noise.
There is a Starbucks near by if you want to have a coffee and the other side has local restaurants and cannabis stores as well and you can even book day trips from the near by street.
Love to be there again some time soon 🥰

Happy to be here as always ❤.
The Tahpae gate is free entry, it is a public area where tourists and locals hang out here anytime.
If you like to take pictures, sitting by the canal, or enjoying feeding the pigeons, it is a place to visit 😀.
Enjoy your time while in Chiang Mai, follow me for more places to discover 👍.

Tha Phae Gate is a great place to experience the history and culture of Chiang Mai. An ideal place to visit when you come to Chiang Mai. Here you can take beautiful pictures, however I don't like the way people treat the pigeons to get beautiful pictures with them. I think this is the most beautiful and complete gate among the four gates in the ancient city of Chiang Mai

I went there twice: in morning to take photos with pigeons & I request some vendors to take photos & videos of us by baht 100.
In new year night, I went again for countdown. I was amazed by fireworks 💥

An historical land mark in the old city of Chiang mai. It has different characters in different days and periods of the year. Living here for one year, I have seen it becoming so vibrant in the festival seasons like Song kran and Loi Krathong. On these special days there will be celebrations happening with beautiful lights and traditional decorations like lanterns and oil lamps. People get together to hangout and take photos on these special days.
On other days there are vendors selling street food and craft items.
The place gets busy again on Sundays where the Night walking street market is happening. This gate marks one end of the walking street.
Can expect huge traffic around, almost everyday.

Walk along Ta Phae Gate. Recommend to walk earlier in the morning to catch the morning breeze while walking around the Old City. Love the Vibes in Chiang Mai! This is free!!
