We had an enchanting stay at Country Retreat! Much had to do with the wonderful hosts, Yen and Pete and their attentiveness to their guests and their retreat!
The property is truly beautiful, with an amazing view of the mountains, wonderful sunsets and a gorgeous rice field behind it.
Every meal we had here was beautifully crafted by Yen and mostly from her garden! And many great cocktails from Pete’s bar!
The bungalows are comfortable and very nice!
There is much to do around, and Pete even has a map with all of his recommendations!
We rented bikes and explored the neighboring areas!
We highly recommend to any travelers looking for an escape from a city stay!

We had the most amazing stay here, super peaceful, surrounded by nature.

Our room was incredible, situated right out the way of everyone else with a great view across the Rice Paddies.

The hosts were lovely, happy to help anytime. The food at the restaurant was delicious. We have spent 6 months in Thailand, and I ate the best Massaman Curry here.

Bikes available to hire at a reasonable price, WiFi was really quick.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay. If we return to the Chaing Mai area, we will definitely be looking to return here.

I should also mention we came here in February, we had amazing weather and no issues with regards to the burning season.

Review:

Thanks Peter and Yin for everything you did for me. I’m doing much better.

My recent stay at this enchanting country retreat in Chiang Mai was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in a sense of peace and serenity that stayed with me throughout my entire stay.

Peter and Yin, the owners of this hidden gem, are the heart and soul of the retreat. Their warmth and hospitality made me feel like a cherished guest from the moment I stepped foot on the property. From sharing stories over freshly brewed coffee or a glass of beer with a cube of ice to offering invaluable insights into the local culture, their presence added an extra layer of charm to my experience.

The accommodation, from the cozy traditional Thai bungalows to the elegant villas, was both comfortable and charming. Waking up to the sound of birdsong, frogs and the gentle rustle of the breeze, I felt a sense of connection to the natural beauty that surrounded me.

One of the highlights of my stay was the culinary experience. Each meal, crafted with love and care by Yin herself, was a true delight for the senses. From fragrant curries bursting with flavor to fresh serving of refreshing fruits that melted in my mouth. Each ingredient pick at the Sunday French produce market. A must do !

But perhaps what struck me most about this retreat was its commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices. Peter and Yin's passion for preserving the environment was evident in every aspect of the retreat, from the organic gardens to the use of renewable energy. It was inspiring to see how luxury and sustainability could come together in such a harmonious way.

As I reluctantly said goodbye to Peter, Yin, and this slice of paradise, I left with a heart full of gratitude and memories that I will treasure for a lifetime. If you're seeking a truly authentic and unforgettable experience in Chiang Mai, look no further than this country retreat. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful, quiet place to stay in Mae Rim. It's around an hour to Chiang Mai downtown, but if you're looking for a relaxed and nature-filled accommodation, consider this place. Friendly owners and good food at the restaurant. You can also rent bikes to explore the area - and don't hesitate to greet the locals with a smile. You'll also find them greet you first. It's the charm of Chiang Mai people that I really love.

One of my favourite places I have ever stayed without a doubt. The location is fantastic - surrounded by rice fields with views of the mountains, it is wonderfully peaceful and has some great bird life and fireflies. The people in the village are also friendly, and there is a beautiful temple 10 minutes walk away.
The owners have done a brilliant job of planting on the grounds of the hotel-it feels as if you are in a tropical garden with beautiful flowers and banana trees. There are hammocks and areas to relax across the complex, creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere, and the pool is a good size and clean.
The restaurant on site does lovely food at reasonable prices, and has a number of Western options as well as Thai. It is also great for vegetarian options! The owners are very friendly and you are made to feel welcome.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and light, and each bungalow has a private veranda you can sit on. It's wonderfully quiet at night.
Overall, a great place to stay if you want a relaxing few days in the countryside, can't fault it!

An incredible, special experience! I stayed here solo for a writing retreat and woke up everyday to a beautiful rice paddy outside my window. Ying and Pete are really nice and helpful — Ying gave me a tour of her plants, and they helped arrange an elephant sanctuary tour last minute. I’m excited to come back again.

One note is that this place is pretty remote and it’s hard to get cabs into the city, but they have a friendly staff driver on hand that you can pay for a ride in. This place is amazing though if you want a nature retreat with plenty else to do nearby — waterfalls, elephants, and an erotic garden (must see!!) a 15 min walk away.

Best place I have ever stayed at. Ying who is the cook/owner there makes some of the best food I have ever tasted, and Peter who also owns the place is such a friendly bloke that’s always there to help. This my favourite place hands down 🙂

A brilliantly located small hotel run by Pete and Ying. We visited in July and it was very hot and the pool was a great asset. The staff is very friendly and Ying, who does all the cooking, is an excellent chef.

We went to see all the waterfalls nearby. That is reccommendable.

We went with our two daugters (age 6 and 7) and we stayed in the 2 bedroom villa which was very nice.

All the best recommendations for this place.

A quiet and relaxing place near Mae Rim. Nice private rooms in stand alone bungalows. Great views of neighboring rice farms in a really chilled out environment. The owners respect privacy while offering helpful service. Breakfast are very good and plentiful. My second time there and will repeat again when I am in the area. Highly recommended.

Located in the middle of the rice fields, this resort is very rural. Quiet and peaceful. The rooms are well maintained, very clean and comfortable. There are many flowers and plants in the yard of the resort. The owner and his wife are warm and friendly. They have three pets, which are very cute. In addition, the hostess's cooking skills are particularly good. Looking forward to meeting again 😉

Totally agree with the other reviews. Owned by a very friendly family who will stop at nothing to make your stay as pleasant as possible. At the end it was like we were staying with friends. The restaurant has plenty of vegetarian options including a veggie burger. The pets definitely added something dor us as well. The room are nice and private and clean. What adds to the charm is that almost the whole place was hand built by the owners.

We rented a (bigger) car for 1200 baht a day and with that it's a great base to drive to all attractions in the neighbourhood.

We also celebrate Loy Krathong with them and they taught us to make boats (Krathongs) and we released them at the river, which was awesome.

Peter and Ying are amazing host. Meet them at 5pm at the pool side bar. Just order a drink, talk about life, play with dog and pig and ask for their recommendations for the dinner. They are also very helpful whenever you need assistance.

Room is clean. Thai food is yummy. Burger and banana flower salad is a must eat. The view is stunning. Massage is comfortable.

We stayed for 2 nights and we didn't go anywhere. You won't feel bored because relaxing is the whole purpose of choosing Country Retreat. Denefitely want to come back.

The moment I arrived in Country Retreat, I already knew this will not be my last. Everything from the comfy bungalow, delicious homemade cooking, rustic ambience coupled with the pleasant weather and most of all, Khun Pete and Khun Ying’s welcoming manner as they catered to every guest’s needs. It is definitely a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
