If you're in Chiang Mai you must visit, the most incredible art/carvings I have ever seen. All pieces are incredible, you will be left speechless. Staff are very friendly and helpful to show you around.

Life Changing

It is life-changing to stand amongst these powerful figures so artfully crafted, and all in one place.

To behold such beauty in one place - all of this here, before it will someday land in a museum for great Southeast Asian Art.

Also, a place of warmth and welcome.

Thank you.

This one spot alone is worth the trip from Chiang Mai. Hidden gem full of carvings at temple-worthy master level.

First thing one sees is this "art gallery" on the right side of road, then a path leading towards a big golden elephant diety sculpture - all lines with already amazingly detailed and beautiful woodcarvings - then a tunnel leading to even more jaw-dropping carvings. We were given a tour by the boss himself who happened to be there, and his knowledge and passion for this craft is evident. The quality of the woodwork is matched by their prices, but fear not, they come in all size and prices. At the end of the long tour there is a general shop with pretty affordable souvenirs. The small, colorful, life-like elephant carvings are made of different types of wood to give them the variety.

Photography is not allowed inside where the really good stuff are.

If you ever visit the woodcarving village of Baan Tawai, definitely find this place, Baan Tipmanee!

Baan Tawai is ok if lots of chintzy tourist bling turns you on but if you want a real treat, stop in at Baan Tipmanee just on the right hand side as you enter town.
This is authentic classical Thai teak artistry at its most amazing!
All my shots are from the outer courtyard. The most incredible stuff is inside but they don’t allow photographs... :(

Baan Tipmanee teak carving museum/place is renowned for its fine wood carving, etching and probably most well respected place in Thailand for teak wood carving. The place is located at Baan Tawai village Hang Dong District which is around 30-40mins away commuting by car from Chiang Mai City/Town.

The place is not only for sight seeing, but also offers education courses for children to adults whether its wood etching, carving, moulding and basic for tools use for all teak woods.

The place does not allow guests to take photos inside. Please ask for K. Noi for your tour guide. She is extremely friendly and knowledgeable on all wooden sculpture and the process behind. She can speaks fluent Eng and Thai language ( and a little Mandarin).

Incredible experience. Hidden Gem in Chiang Mai.

The workmanship and artifacts I saw blew my mind. The staff was kind and helpful. The prices to purchase gifts were reasonable. I highly recommend this place, especially if you have done any woodworking.

Amazing place to visit! The quantity alone is amazing but the quality and how lifelike the wood sculptures are is really impressive. Smaller sculptures are pretty reasonable too, under 1000 baht.

Not able to travel to Angkor Wat in Cambodia? A similar experience awaits you only 20 minutes south of Chiang Mai. The volume and intricacy of these carvings will overwhelm you. It is more of a museum rather than a shop. No charge to visit. But photos are discouraged. Otherwise I would still be there.

Loved this place. The entire road (Baan Tawai) is lined with shops selling carved teak - from small souviners to furniture. This shop (Tipmanee) is like a private museum of a 30 year collection of intricately carved pieces. The guy and his daughter were really friendly and showed us through the whole collection - no charge.
