Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan is, I think, the main attraction in Prachin Buri district. The temple is fabulous, magnificent, and thus absolutely "must" if you happen to visit Prachin Buri. Prepare that Wat Sothon is very popular temple. I especially liked the Chinese temple behind the big / main temple. There are in the Chinese temple much fewer visitors than elsewhere at the Wat Sothon area, so one can wonder and photo the worship figures in peace. The imagery Chinese Buddhism is richer and more diverse than there in Thai Buddhist temples.

Truly sacred Buddha LuangPhor Sothon, the temple is so grand with more to build up.
Inside the temple was quiet and serene during weekend even with so many prayers.

Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan

Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan, originally known as “Wat Hong,” the evidence states that it was built around the late Ayutthaya era. As time goes by, the Bang Pakong River eroded its banks causing Wat Hong to disappear; therefore, a new temple was built. Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan is the ancient temple of Chachoengsao Province. It is the enshrinement place of Luang Por Phutthasothon, the revered Buddha image of many people in Thailand since the ancient times. It is located on Marupong Road, about 2 kilometers away from the downtown market. This temple was originally a private monastery, built around the late Ayutthaya era. According to history, it was firstly named as “Wat Hong” because there was swan column in the temple (swan in Thai means Hong ). Later, the swan on top of the column fell down and only the column was left. A flag was hung to replace the swan, so its name was changed to “Wat Sao Thong.” (flag in Thai means Thong). When the flag pole snapped in half, the name became “Wat Sao Thong Thon.” Regarding the name “Wat Sothon,” which means “purity” and “sacred,” it was named after the name of Phra Putthasothon or Luang Por Sothon which was enshrined in this temple. Later, Wat Sothon was appointed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej to become a Royal Monastery, Elementary Level, Worawihan Category, with the name of “Wat Sothonwararamworawihan” on 8 August 1958.

This Buddha’s image is in the attitude of mediation that is 165 centimeters wide and 198 centimeters high and was built by Lan Chang artisans. It is assumed that this Buddha's image was enshrined at this temple aroud the year 1770 in the early Thonburi era.

This nice local Thai Buddhist temple has been completely upgraded and renovated over the last few years. It's now very clean and well organised without the clouds of incense it used to have. You can park in the school opposite for free. There are many nice gold leaf covered Mahayana Chinese Buddha statues in the main hall. The temple is so much better now, 5 stars.

This is a quite impressively large temple with a unique, or at least unusual, architectural style which is quite beautiful so those who like to take photographs should be happy. There is also a market across the street where you can browse different food stuff. Behind the temple near the river side there is also a Chinese shrine (Luang Pho Sothon Shrine) you can check out. The river itself also provides nice views. You can easily spend an hour or two here. To get here you can take the railway from Bangkok to Chachoengsao station and get a tuk-tuk to the temple.

It’s a famous temple for Thai people to visit to pray and make a wish. It’s huge and well managed, much better than before. Always crowded every weekend.

Different in a good way. We did not have too much problem parking although it looks daunting. The complex is huge! The Saturday crowd was pretty big. I liked the expansive grounds, European palatial feel, restoration activities, and the focus on healing. This temple gets a lot of donated eggs, of all things. Thousands of eggs! Hard boiled, therefore a little less frail. I loved the marble floor patterns. Funny bugeyed fish, mermaids, elephant fish, yeti fish.

Wat Sothon is a stunning temple with a gleaming white exetrior. The interior is equally captivating, adorned with numerous Buddha statues for prayers. The temple is known for the unique practice of offering eggs. It's a serene place, perfect for those looking to make merit or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Located behind the temple is a vegetarian restaurant but we didn't have time during this trip. Will be back!

This is a popular Temple. I was there a couple of time. I am very proud at the moment something change because there is no Buddhist Mafia anymore in front of Temple. Before when you get entrance to the temple they just put some stupid flower into your hands and ask you to pay 100 thb. For the ReUse flower and Candlelight but now all that thing is gone. You can donate by yourself for whatever you feel like. And you can pray and walk around the temple as long as you want. There is a car parking at the temple and also the market in front of the street where you can buy some souvenir awesome food for your friends and family.
The temple is very beautiful and the Buddha image in a temple is popular and divine.
Must visit once in a lifetime :-)

There is the "main" (old) LP Sothorn worship hall (under reno) when I visited.
There is a new building for worship and praying.

Remember to buy eggs (best if cooked eggs) along the way to the temple to pray to LP Sothorn.

Came here in November 2022.

A beautiful architectural masterpiece. Haven't seen this kind of temple. It was amazing.

Avoid going on holidays as there is a rush. The premises are clean. There are shops to buy flowers and other things for the ceremony.

I saw shops to buy Buddha lockets at a very reasonable price. I bought one locket for just ฿300.

I pray everyone is blessed by Buddha.

Feeling blessed. Namo Buddha.

Very beautiful and sacred place to pay homage to Laung Por Sothon. This place is famous for praying for success, work, prosperity. Many people always bring boiled eggs as the offerings to Buddha Sothon. You can bring your own or buy boiled eggs from surrounded shops. The temple only takes cash for donation, make sure you have some cash with you.
