This is one of those over the top Asian hotels that makes you say WOW!
Nice staff, limited restaurant menu but quality food, excellent breakfast, spacious and comfy rooms, proximity to many restaurants and a quick taxi drive to the Old Town. It's pricier than other options in town but the value justifies what they charge.

Close enough to night markets for a stroll. We stayed in the premier wing but both buildings are off the busy mainroad so there is no traffic noise. The service was excellent.
The staff speak English well. Breakfast was very nice with many choices.

Beautiful and luxurious hotel. A wonderful welcome that included a big bag of snacks - a lovely surprise. Chandeliers everywhere, in the lobby, in the room …
I also appreciated the New Testament that was in the room - thank you!

This is the best hotel in Chiang Mai, I've been coming here for 20 years. The service is absolutely brilliant, the staff can't do enough for you. Each and everyone greet you with a smile. When you arrive they give you a bag of good quality goodies. I highly recommend this hotel.

I live in Chiang Mai and though I don't live in this hotel, I do eat breakfast here every morning. It's a fabulous buffet breakfast, and if one is not a guest at the hotel it's only $250 bought. Truly a bargain. I have stayed in this hotel previously, and it's a fabulous place. The rates are very affordable, and while this apparently is only a four-star hotel, I think the service levels bring it up to five star. Really great service here from all levels of staff! Not one pool here but two: one freshwater pool and one saltwater pool. Can't beat the location. Easy to walk to the Old City. The river is nearby. And it's surrounded by great restaurants, both Eastern and Western. Whenever I have guests that visit me, this is where they stay, and they Rave about their experiences! Absolutely recommended!!

Update: So great to be back.... Same great service as always! Thank you Mr Prawit and your great restaurant staff!

The Empress has an old money exotic flair to it that amused us. The staff was excellent, quickly and graciously solving problems like I lost an umbrella on sight and locked my key in the room. The food on sight is pretty good without significantly higher charge than the area. 10 minute walk to the night bazaar and many nearby restaurants. One of the fastest wifis I've had in Asia. The bed was hard for my taste but it didn't bother either of my companions. Good hotel.

Worth a 5-star for the stay! The decorations at the lobby is grand and the room is spacious, comfy, neat and clean. Gym room facilities selection is nice but the swimming pool is not that big as expected but still recommended! I appreciate they will provide a snack gift set which is lovely. Pay additionally for breakfast buffet which is also quite recommended, mainly western dish, big salad bar and fruit area. The staff at checkin and buffet are so polite and patient. Just that the entrance and location is a bit tricky to find, not easy to directly walk from the popular spot.

Absolutely loved our four nights here. Upgraded on arrival to a suite, lovely we bonus :) the rooms were massive and super clean. Loved the smart control panel to control the lights, air con, room service etc by the bed side. Our bed was big and very comfy. Good breakfast selection to suit my husbands taste and my super plain taste. All the staff we spoke to were super helpful and professional. The pool area was great too with the sun there all day from late morning.

Huge rooms and beautiful decor. Very helpful staff and a delightful manager; she was especially kind and went out of her way to make us feel at home (after a long drive from Bangkok). We stayed there in January.

This is our fifth stay (and the second within this year) in Empress Hotel Chiang Mai. The hotel staff are friendly, attentive, smiley😊 and hardworking. Albeit this hotel's last renovation was over two decades ago, it is well-maintained, tidy and clean. (I think all the staff pull their weight to keep it going!) Definitely our top and the only choice to stay in whenever we come back to Chiang Mai.

Great location, fantastic staff(front desk, housekeeping, pool,...
I will stay at Empress Hotel when I return to Chiang Mai 100%!

Edit.
Just returned to the Empress hotel ( accidentally typed Embassy earlier)..
It was the second visit to Chiang Mai, and the second time we stayed at the Empress Hotel.
When we return next year, the Empress Hotel will be our choice again.
Thanks to the staff for again creating a great hotel experience from door people, front desk, housekeeping, pool,restaurant...

Great service and facilities. The real hilights were the staff (which were the friendliest that we have encountered so far in thailand) and the amazing family 2-bedroom unit. Pool and breakfast were great. Pool hours should be longer - closes at 7pm which was disappointing for people on holiday when temperature well over 30 degrees.

We had a wonderful experience staying in this hotel. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so nice and attentive. The food was excellent and our room was very clean and had everything we needed. Thank you for making our stay a pleasant one.

Lovely place straight out of a 90’s movie. Excellent genuinely friendly service. Got upgraded to an executive room at check in because of a confusion of booking with the Premier hotel next door. Beautiful room, small bathroom. Value for money can’t be beat. A short stroll from the night market and quiet environment for a nice sleep. I’ll be back.

The staff at the Empress are some of the friendliest, well trained, and most considerate I have met. Great job by them.

The hotel is lovely. My room was very well appointed. Spacious and modern with huge windows, but also classic with a lot of elegant wood, art, and furnishings.

I am going to have to ask about the soap bars in the bathroom when I check out... hands down the most luxurious soap I've used.

Lovely pool, very large gym, great location.
