This place has a very local feel. I felt a little intimidated coming in at first, but they treated us well. We had pork laab, Hang Lee curry, and the fish in banana leaf. The laab was different than any I'd had before with grilled onion and garlic. It's more savory and unique to me. The hang lee curry was very good and something I've never had. The fish was flavorful but a bit strong with many bones. It was worth trying but not my favorite.

Had the raw chicken laab which was the first thing on the Thai order chit menu and the best thing I’ve had in Chiang Mai.

Would recommend raw laab (laab dip) in chicken or beef, chin som mok (fermented sausage), and tam khanun (jackfruit curry). And of course khao niao (sticky rice).

I stumbled upon this place while heading to the South gate. What caught my eye is that there were many locals eating here. Don't be put off by the three tables that you see, there's a lot more space inside. I got the cooked chicken laab (฿65) which was so flavourful, especially when eaten with the fried shallots. Be sure to get a plate of rice (฿10) to go with it. One should also try the Sai Ua (฿75) which was a rather large portion and was fragrant. I was also excited to try the ab moo (฿40) which is grilled pork in banana leaf. The strong taste of lemongrass and shrimp paste reminded me of the Peranakan dish otah. Overall a very good and affordable meal here, though I wished there were some vegetable options to balance out this very meat-heavy meal.

We were headed to the South Gate Night Market when we stumbled upon this place, so we decides to head in for dinner. This restaurant specialises in Northern Thai cuisine and was filled with locals.

We ordered an Ab Moo (THB40), Sai Oua (THB75) and Pork Larb (THB60). Dishes were served within 10-15 minutes after we placed our orders, and they were amazing. The Sai Oua was rich with the taste of spices and the Ab Moo melts in the mouth. The chicken larb is very fragrant too and is a bit spicy towards the end.

A thing to note though, the shop owner and attendants do not speak a lot of English. Their menu has English too so it was not too difficult to decide our dishes. Would highly recommend this place for a taste of authentic Northern Thai cuisine!

Local and value meal. Roasted pork is thr best, followed by beef stew.

We knew Chiang Mai was famous for Laab and a simple Google search landed us here with high expectations.

I didn't disappoint. The atmosphere casual and rustic. We sat somewhere near their living quarters. The owner and staff surprisingly attentive at 3pm. The food simply awesome. The laabs were mixed fresh and the different variety is distinctly different in taste. I personally enjoyed the raw ox. It was meaty not gamey with a hint of gin bitterness.

Pricing is 5 star!

Beef laab was an intense flavour explosion. Deep umami from fish sauce and a blend of herbs like lemongrass, and galangal.

Som tum was light vibrant and fresh which was a great contrast for the meal.

Very local place and cheap prices!

Came here to try their gaeng hung lay moo made with fatty pork belly. Oh my gosh, this was incredible. The pork belly melts in your mouth and the curry is super fragrant and full of flavour, a must try! Check out our channel for a full review of our experience: Hungry Two Travel.

Came here for the Hang Le Curry. Added roasted pork. Wasn’t disappointed in either. Definitely come here for the food. Prices are also low. Service was mediocre but we came at the end of the day and staff was tired.

We had some of the best food of our travels here. We ate the hot and sour pork soup which was fresh and full of flavour (a real highlight), a very aromatic laab, and a richly spiced, moreish curry with the most tender pork. The food is unfussy, delicious and affordable, and the service is efficient (no fan fare). Do try it out!

As an Ivorian (born and raised) I love strong and long lasting flavours. In my humble foreigner opinion, it has been the most authentic and flavourful dishes I ate in the Old City. Arrrrrrroy ma! Delicious.

I had the cooked beef larb and the northern beef curry.

Fantastic little find. Nice and shady. Near the moat. Grilled meat. Tasty Muu Yang. And the soup had quite a bit of flavor. They have an English menu, so foreigners are definitely welcome. Only down side (for some), Pepsi products. Blehk! :-)

The food here feels quite authentic, not catering to tourists. There is an English menu however. It's low key and quite cozy. The food is delicious and the service is fast. If you're a foreigner and don't speak Thai, be polite, it will go a long way (not just here). I recommend the Green Papaya Salad, Larb, and Northern Thai Sausage paired with some sticky rice, washed down with some cold icy beer. They also have really delicious Nam Chim Seafood. You should definitely eat here.

This is a restaurant I stumbled upon while walking around in chiang mai. I had the day exploring the city on my own because my friend got food poisoning from the night before. What immediately stopped me was the delicious smell of bbq in the front of the store. I saw a couple of foreigners sitting in front and the Thai ladies too busy even to welcome me in the restaurant. As soon as I walked in, they were immediately excited and greeted me to the back of restaurant that was full of locals. I ordered the bbq pork, chicharon, juice and a bowl of rice. This meal was about 110 baht. But the lady there was so nice she just took my 100 and said forget about the 10. This was probably my favorite meal in chiang mai. I was welcomed with kindness and incredible local food.
