Nice but of course expensive airport duty free.

The cost of these things are more expensive than a supermarket but less than souvenir shops around Madeira. They had a good selection of madeira wine, rum, poncha, bolo de mel, and nick nacks with some 3 for 2 offers. They do not stock Fábrica de Santo António bolo de mel which is an iconic brand. Bolo de mel is not vegetarian as it contains lard.

Prices are clear and there are plenty of staff who speak English that are helpful. The piri piri sauce was about much more expensive than normal (€9-10). If you can go to a supermarket like Continente or Pingo before you leave you will find a better and cheaper range of piri piri sauces in small bottles.

If you are travelling to the UK there is a limit on the amount of alcohol you can bring. On Nov 2021, per person it was 4 litres of spirits, or 9 litres of fortified or sparkling wine or 18 litres of wine which can be mixed and matched (like 2 litres of spirit and 4.5 litres of wine).
