Santuario de Nossa Senhora da Peneda

Gorgeous little village in the heart of Geres. Loved the drive through the mountains to get here. Off the beaten path but worth it.

What an amazing place! Really beautiful, in the middle of the mountains. This was definitely a highlight of our road trip. The church was also beautiful from the inside.

In the heart of Peneda Gerês National Park, surrounded by a magnificent natural environment, there is a monumental sanctuary that is well worth your visit! This place is beautiful and perfect for an one day trip.

It's a spooky place! But a great view and lots of history. You'll see the power of the church. They always have the biggest and best situated buildings in nearly every european town. That's hard to see but it's worth a break if you're in the park. :)

A fantastic place to visit! Very peaceful and interesting. We thought it was a shame that when we visited we were the only ones there. Because this place is well worth a visit. Simply unbelievable that not more folks visit here. But perhaps it is simply because it is off the beaten track (i.e. not near the likes of Geres etc.). I can highly recommend it!

Holy Portuguese Jesus! This place is amazing, and also a little bit weird. Make sure you take a peek in each of the little hut things. Bonus, after climbing all those stairs there’s a river off to the side you can dip in. Just don’t plan on doing the hike above the chapel- it’s closed for landslides. Or if you don’t speak the language and do the hike anyways because you don’t know what all the danger signs are saying…walk carefully.

A remote, unique and peaceful place that most of us always want to discover.

It is located all the way up in the mountains close to Spain,and to get there you have to go through lots of natural seenery

Beautiful historical sight in the middle of the Peneda Geres reserve. Mostly very well taken care of. Great views.

Awesome views and great architecture. A lot of history too.

A Must see when visiting the Minho region

No words can explain the natural beauty and wild life. Clean and safe for the whole family. Cool trails to hike up to the lake on the very top of the mountain. Our 5 year old loved it and made it up the rocky trail.

A beautiful old church of pilgrimage with tableaux depicting the life of Jesus. All set in a traditional village with mountains and a magnificent waterfall.

The drive to the church will take you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Northern Portugal. The church and its series of chapels are equally impressive and carefully maintained. Definitely worth a visit.

In the middle of a National Park, with roads not so easy to drive now days, you'll find this amazing and stunning piece of art.
The waterfalls it reminds you of Riverdale, perhaps it was the source of inspiration to Tolkien.
I advise using some kind of tourist guide so you can know better Nossa Senhora da Penha.
Also must visit the souvenir shop, natural tea's, honey, flower pólen.

A very underrated place!! Love it! Try to come all the way from Lamas de Mouro, stopping here, heading to Sistelo. The road is beautiful!

This was a very interesting site in a beautiful and relatively remote destination.

Cool place! But the food around here is a bit expensive. Pack your own, if you don't want to spend much!
