Great little restaurant!

The owner was super helpful and able to tell me what was gluten free on the menu (most of it!) and gave us some great recommendations. Tons of options for the gluten avoiders amongst us. Celiacs - this place is safe although I would avoid the shared fryer.

Local food great service really homey and authentic feeling. Had a very lovely dinner. The dishes were huge and home-wine delicious.

Everything was just fantastic. There are tables set up outside, nicely distanced from each other (post-Covid, this is always good to know when dining out). We started with the pataniscas, which were fluffy, light, and flavorful. For the main dish we ordered the Cachena steak for two, with batatas ao murro, cooked veggies and rice. The steak was truly one of the best I’ve ever had, melt-in-your-mouth tender and perfected seasoned. If you’ve not tried Cachena beef (Portuguese/Galician breed of small cattle), you’re in for a treat. The bolo de bolacha (dense cake with cookies, cream and coffee) was delicious. Our waiters were very attentive, friendly and prompt. All in all, it was a wonderful dinner, very reasonably priced, in a lovely small town.

What a wonderful place we discovered. We had an amazing meal! The Minho tradition at work here, big portions, extremely tasty food and cheap! Go and try for yourselves, you won't be sorry!

Probably the best steak i ve had in Portugal. My local friends took me here for dinner from Viana do Castelo. It was an amazing dinner. Food was extremely delicious. The owner and the staff were so kind. Its a small dining room but super cozy and has calm ambiance.

If I could give them 10 stars I would. Great steaks, honest prices, and friendly service. Just found my go to spot in Arcos, if you're in the mood for steaks look no further.

These other good reviews aren't lying these guys took care of us like we were family, food was delicious, prices were super reasonable and the atmosphere feels like you teleported to a better time where life was simple and delicious. Highly recommend O Lagar to any meat lovers visiting Arcos

Food excellent, we had posta de cachena a tender piece of meat so delicious with veggies and potato! The young guy waiter so smiley and professional price affordable and ambient it looks like a proper tavern

Came to this place from a recommendation of a local. Me and my father ate Cachena Steak and I must say it was damn good!

Note: this is a small place, so if you go there on a weekend it might be hard to find a table.

Huge portions. Great price/quality ratio. Small wine list but with very good prices. Try the 'house desserts'...great!
