Best octopus in my life! The owner is nice. Food is great! Prices are low. There are just several tables outside and it is not a fancy restaurant, but this place is delicious and authentic. Extremely recommended.
Want to upgrade my review. We have visited this place 2 more times. Everything was great!

I recently ate at this spot and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere was local and the service was also great. The star of the meal had to be the seafood. The garlic prawn was delicious, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. But the octopus managed to outshine it—tender and flavorful, a must-try for sure. And don't skip the garlic bread. It's a simple side but adds a great touch to the meal. Definitely planning on going back soon.

If you're in search of an authentic, rustic dining experience with Matera's finest homemade meals, A Tendinha is the place to be. Recommended by our tour buddies, we couldn't resist the charm of Mr. Fernando and his one-man band team. The wait for our dinner and his promised Passion Fruit Custard Pudding dessert was well worth it. Despite the unassuming local look, the hospitality and heartfelt food make A Tendinha the go-to spot for savouring a truly local dish, reminiscent of Mama's kitchen. And the best part? It won't break the bank.

Absolute gem 10/10! Delicious food, reasonable prices & great service. We loved all the dishes, but the octopus was the star of the show.

Insanely low price, and high quality food 👌 must try steak, shrimp, octopus. My new favorite Amsterdam nsst value restaurant on the island. Every other restaurant is overpriced!

This is our first meal on the island. After traveling for a month. We decided to go back again because it’s the best octopus and value. Thanks the owner to put hearts and love into this small restaurant. Make sure you don’t come here at busy hour since only few tables outside.

Very good food. The honest owner, when I asked for one dish, he said that it wouldn't be a good solution and suggested another, fresher fish. Together with garlic bread and beer the bill was less than €13. There is not much space in the place, but I really recommend it.

I read the reviews and went on the strength of those. Not disappointed, the menu was simple and I suspect changes according to availability. Had to wait for a table which shows how popular it is (only 6 tables and the group next to me had come everyday of their stay).
Food was perfectly cooked - scabbard fish in onion sauce with potatoes and veg. With a beer cost just over 8 euros.
I would easily visit again, in fact I'm planning to tomorrow.

If you want a fancy restaurant it's not your place. If you are looking for something local this is the place! I recommend 200% ! For us it was the best local and traditional food what we ate at Madeira. If the owner seems to be angry, it's not, he has a lot to do.

This place is absolutely amazing, we visited here after a long day exploring Funchal and were searching for an early dinner. This very unsuspecting location blew us away. The food was delicious, the service was provided by the owner who also cooked and served us and the atmosphere was great the restaurant was filled with locals. We had two huge glasses of white wine, bolo do caco, garlic prawns, steak and octopus dinners for under €40 and it was one of the best meals we’ve had on our trip. Bless this restaurant

It was a huge surprise, looks like random pub, prices suspiciously low, but reviews were great so we tried.
The best meal we had on Madeira for price of half of other ones <3 I strongly recommend steak and octopus

The restaurant is located in an alley, but it is not difficult to find. The food is really delicious and authentic. Very good selection of food. The price-performance ratio is excellent. At the same time, I really admire the owner, who basically does everything himself - cooks and also serves. If you will be in Madeira, I definitely recommend a visit.

This is one of my favourite dining experiences in my entire Portugal trip! The restaurant itself is a tiny bar with a kitchen in the back, but all the dining tables spill onto the cute quiet street. The food was out of this world delicious and for a price we couldn’t believe. But the most incredible part is that this restaurant is a fully one man show - serving and cooking every dish and doing with a big smile on his face! Truly an unforgettable dining experience :) We’d love to come back one day!

I’ll cut to the chase. It’s the best octopus. I’ve had in my travels around the world. Simple garlic and olive oil, the vegetables and potatoes are not an afterthought. A one-man show and worth the wait.

I ate here twice recently. The owner was so kind and welcoming, a real pleasure to meet him. Food was great and such good value i had omelette and steak and a most delicious passion fruit custard dessert delicious! Honest, tasty meal served with care. I loved listening to the locals chat and laugh even if i didn't understand what they were saying it was lovely to experience rather than another tourist spot

This is a hidden gem in Madeira. Tucked away in an alleyway, this unassuming spot is run by one guy and is often frequented by locals. The owner/chef is super sweet and explains the menu in detail. The food I had here was some of the best I had on the island, and his prices are very reasonable. Highly highly recommend this spot to experience authentic local dishes! Food was skillfully cooked with care and with high quality seafood. Felt like a home away from home whenever I dined here. Honestly, this was my favourite spot on the island. The cod, limpets, tuna, octopus, bolo de caco were all amazing here.

A most delicious and authentic tasting experience. The octopus was tender, the black scabbard fillet very savory, while the lapas and the garlic butter as appetizers were a proper meal by themselves. The owner recommended us all the right foods and wine that the locals usually have and that we must try to enjoy culinary Madeira properly.
It is a very small place, hence the name, with no seats inside, only a few tables outside. So make sure you get a table.
A very pleasant and fast service, cost atmosphere and delicious authentic food.

We had an amazing dinner in this very local restaurant.
A soup, octopus, wine and dessert for 20€. The meals were amazing.
(The owner is managing everything by himself so the service can take time and the kitchen closes at 7pm so don't come too late).
