PR20 Vereda do Jardim do Mar

We hitchhiked to Prazeres from Calheta did this lovely downhill hike (that is open despite the signs and the internet saying otherwise) in 50 minutes and spend some time in the lovely yown of Jardim do Mar and hitchhiked back to Calheta from there. If you want to do a return trip, as said by others I'd recommend a combination with the PR19 but that is only possible at low tide!

The views are nice but going down hill it is very taxing on the legs. Path in general is good but narrow and at several places wet with streaming water over the path. Good shoes are required and good level of fitness. Not for people who are afraid of heights😉
At the end of the trail (if you go down), lovely little town and good bar /Cafe on the route further down to the sea if you want to do that.

Beautiful hicking trail! Despite the breathtaking views you have to keep in mind that you have to overcome an altitude of 500 meters. TWICE! Walking back next to the sea sounds fun at first, but to walk over thousands of loose stones for nearly 2km isn't that much fun afterall. Overall a beautiful and rewarding hicking trail. A certain amount of physical fitness is mandatory and one should really consider if they are fit enough to get through this.

Beautiful hike and that's why it gets 5 stars. I will warn you to not do this if you aren't in fair shape or if you have knee issues. Regarding hiking back up, make sure you have adequate water, as there is no shade and it is a steep incline. I would also avoid this if it's been raining as the path is mostly stones.

Beautiful views and a good exercise. Nice walk with about 560 meters of height difference. Reasonably fit people would ascend in 60 to 90 minutes.

Going down and up can give you an idea what it was in the old days to trade fish from Paul do Mar for potatos and other vegetables from the fields of Maloeira and Prazeres. Very hard trading but with magnificent views that you can enjoy if you are fit for it.

Aktuell durch eine umgestürzten Baum im mittleren Bereich offiziell gesperrt und nicht mehr wirklich begehbar. Das Hindernis kann wenn überhaupt nur durchklettert werden und ist für ungeübte auf keinen Fall zu empfehlen. Gutes Schuhwerk ist ein muss.
Der Weg bis zum Aussichtspunkt oberhalb oberhalb von Jardim do Mar ist frei.

Dans l'île de Madère, un sentier en hauteur,
D'un petit village à l'autre, par monts et par coteaux.
D'un dénivelé vaillant, cinq cents mètres au tableau,
La randonnée s'étend, par la nature en labeur.

Jardin do Mar, village au charme enchanteur,
Sous nos pas se dévoile, un panorama si beau.
Mais dès que le soleil fait briller son flambeau,
L'ombre se fait rare, un défi pour le randonneur.

Partis du village d'en bas, vers Prazeles, sur les hauteurs,
Les pas tracent leur route sur ce chemin ingrat.
Envahi par les ans, la nature, un combat, Le sentier peu entretenu, devient tronçon d'ardeur.

Dangereux pour les novices, ce chemin, une frayeur,
Mais depuis Prazeles, fin de ce périple engagé,
Le sentier s'achève, pour les curieux fermé,
Nul conseil en l'empruntant, l'avis est sans erreur.

Oh randonneur, écoute, sois prévenu avec honneur,
De Jardin do Mar à Prazeles, l'aventure est tracée.
Aux non-initiés, cette voie n'est point dédiée,
Pour éviter le PR20, le chemin trompeur.

Super schöne Levada Wanderung, hier muss man jedoch sehr fit sein um den Aufstieg bewältigen zu können. Wir sind nicht gerade unsportlich, ich laufe nomalerweise sehr viel und trotzdem sind wir hier an unsere Grenzen gestoßen. Hatten den Rother Wanderführer, in dem der Weg sehr gut beschrieben war, aber die 682 HM Aufstieg haben es wirklich in sich. Die Stufen beim Aufstieg sind teilweise sehr mit Wasser überlaufen und die Halterungen teilweise gar nicht mehr vorhanden, hier sollte man wirklich bequeme Schuhe mit Treffsicherheit tragen. Sonnencreme nicht vergessen, wurde teilweise sehr heiß im September!

Profiter de la quiétude de jardim do mar en randonnée. Plus facile de monter que de descendre. A éviter si pluie.

Sehr schöne Wanderung. Wir sind PR19 hinuntergegangen. In Paul do Mar kann man bei Ebbe am Strand nach Jardim do Mar wandern oder durch den Tunnel gehen bzw. per Anhalter fahren. In Jardim do Mar sind wir PR20 wieder hochgewandert. Ich empfehle die Route in diese Richtung mit Aufstieg bei PR20, da es hier Trinkwasserstellen und kühl und schattige Stellen gibt. Beide Wege sind steil und an heißen Tagen anstrengend. Jedoch bei normaler Kondition machbar.

De Jardim do mar à Prezeres. Très difficile la montée, des marches en pierres irrégulières, mais la vue en haut formidable !! Ensuite aller vers Paul do mar, mais descente très dure aussi. Retour par la plage impossible si marée haute et très fatiguante dans les galets, on est allé rechercher la voiture en courant dans le tunnel !!

Super Wanderung für fortgeschrittene mit traumhaften Aussichten und wegpunkten. Der Aufstieg ist anspruchsvoll.

Очень крутое и живописное место. Маршрут с достаточно большим уклоном, ходят и пожилые люди, но без какой-либо подготовки будет напряжённо. Дорожка вымощена камнем, при этом "ступени" достаточно покатые, поэтому в дождь надо выбирать обувь и в целом быть осторожнее
