Miradouro do Ninho da Manta

The Ninho da Manta Viewpoint is located just a few meters from the beginning of Vereda do Areeiro (PR1), one of the most iconic walking routes in Madeira.
This has therefore become an obligatory place to visit both for walkers heading from here towards the island's largest peak Pico Ruivo 🏔( 1861 m), and for visitors to Pico do Areeiro.

This is the first viewpoint you'll encounter after passing the Radar station. About a quarter of an hour to thirty minutes walk from the Radar Station, access is not very demanding(although there is some elevation gain) and can be the start of a wonderful journey to Pico Ruivo,the most iconic trail in Madeira.
The walking path has been easy up to this point.

Some of the best views in Madeira. We hiked up to near here for sunrise. We started about 45 minutes before sunrise and lots of people had head torches but there was already enough light to see once your eyes adjust.

The sun actually rose slightly behind Pico do Arierio and I’ve read that it does this in winter so probably best to view the sunrise at the main spot during winter. It didn’t matter for us anyway as there were low lying clouds so we couldn’t actually see the sun for the first 20 minutes of it rising.

It was very windy and gets a bit cold when you’re just sitting still waiting for the sunrise so bring clothes for the wind.

A very beautiful viewing point along the Verada do Areeiro walking trail. It is highly recommended to get here before sunrise and enjoy the breathtaking views. It is about 20 minutes walking from the parking lot. We had some clouds but after sunrise it cleared up and treated us to stunning views.

Beautiful and well maintained trail. Similar to any high peak it can be cold and wet so bring appropriate gears.

If you've got the ability to climb here it's definitely worth the effort. We did this on a tour to see the sunrise and was not disappointed, be warned though its hard going but the reward is out this world

Well worth the walk. It's not far from the car park and our young kids didn't find it too much. Minimal complaining! Amazing views if the weather is in your favour. Literally above the clouds.

The sunrise view is great from early spring till late summer. In autumn & winter the sun rises behind military radar and warm morning light is visible only at Juncal viewpoint.
This viewpoint is always full of people at sunrise. Time after time I meet hikers with tents & sleeping bags there, staying overnight.

This miradouro is a fantastic point to see the sunrise from Pick de Arreiro. Most of the people stops at the miradouro Juncal, the very first one, but this one is a smaller and less crowded one. If you reach it before the sunrise (as suggested), you need to have torches and lights because the path is a bit tricky (but absolutely reachable).

Dress accordingly, insulated jacket and wool layers are recommended during the winter months. Wind exposed viewpoint. Great views inbetween the clouds

It is a nice veranda with stunning views! It even has an ashtray for cigarettes!

WOW! Truly astonishing views from here. Definitely going to do PR.1 on my next trip to Madeira, it's mind-blowing beautiful.

Easy walk from the car park. Great views. Bring warm clothes.

Amazing views. A small cafe with toilets, just below the viewpoint selling drinks and light meals. Just don't forget 50cents for the toilet.

As for me, this is the best view you can find on Madeira! Highly recommended!
