Parque de Estacionamento Pico do Areeiro

We arrived 30 minutes before sunrise and the lot wasn’t too full. We saw very few spots available at the bottom and quickly pulled into one. We were worried we wouldn’t get a spot if we ventured further up. Turns out, there were plenty of spots further up the hill closer to the peak itself.

Parking itself was free. There are toilets for €0.50 at the top to use before the hike.

If you go for sunrise, push yourself to do the <1km hike over to the second viewing platform for additional pictures.

Very busy and was already filling up at 7am. There was a fair bit of human excrement on the ground which wasn’t nice so they probably should open the toilets earlier

We arrived at the parking around 8.30 a.m. (in October, so rather low season) and it was almost full, but there were some rotation of cars, so we and some other cars managed to get spots. Officially ones are allowed to park here for 1 hour- there is other car park situated lower for those, who want to spend a day on footpaths.

Sunrise is a must see if you intend to visit pico do Arieiro

Empty, max. stay 1 hour, but nobody controls.

Bug parking lot. You can park here for one hour for free(but nobody is checking that). If you need to park for longer period, there is even bigger parking lot few meters below.

Free parking, fills up early (before 09:00), but it is possible to park next to road below parking lot.

Really large parking right on the top of the mountain. Steep. For free.

Be there before sunrise, trust me you won't regret it.
