We did 7 trails in 9 days and this was our favourite. If you are doing in with kids - bring safety gear. A bit difficult for those afraid of heights. It was very interesing. It had noce views, river, waterfalls, caves, clifs 🥰 oh, I want to come back.

Beautiful hike with minimal crowds (only saw a few people passing by). Starts behind the stairs by large white church. Easy though not for those scared of heights (some parts were missing fences from the cliff). Ends with beautiful waterfall. If youre lucky, you can see goats and sheep on the way. You can either walk back the same route or take another route back to town with a loop.

Gorgeous hike with pretty views! For us this was an easy trail; flat paths and almost no elevation. You have to cross a river though. I recommend wearing watertight shoes!

It is a shame that this route does not have a PR name, as it is definitely one of the most iconic hikes we did. It starts behind the church and is mostly flat, but there is one part when you are changing between Levada Moinho and Nova - here you need to take quite steep stairs. We (averagely fit guys in their 30s) did the circle in 3.5 hrs with frequently stopping for taking photos. Levadas are leading you in the high with stunning views and proximity to nature. In most places it is safe, there are safety rails between you and the deep, but especially in Levada Nova, there are lots of unprotected parts - we also experienced rocks rolling from above right next to us, which was scary... However it is worth the journey, wonderful hike.

An easy and really interesting tour. We started in the morning, so we did not met so much people. Beautiful view all along the walk. A must do in Madeira.

An easy 4 km long walk with beautiful view of the vally. Descent possible through path on the west (the other side ofcthe river) or through Levada Nova up the stairs.

Beautiful Levada! Easy and safe hike with incredible landscapes.
You can combine it with the Levada Nova to make a loop. Just be aware that Levada Nova is more dangerous with some parts without guardrail and 150ft drop. If you do not feel like taking the risk, you can also hike down through another path, or just get back via the Levada do Moinho.
Parking is easy in front of the church. The starting point is just behind the church.

It's a really nice walk. Not difficult however if you have fear of heights a few bits might be uneasy (no railing in place but about 0.5m concrete path). There is a bit of elevation probably about 150m when going up to Levada Nova to do the loop (stairs). No point to go left after going upstairs (at the end of that there is currently some construction in place). Turn right and soon you will arrive at a beautiful waterfall. You go via a tunnel with waterfall water hitting you slightly. Then there is a short tunnel where the head torch would be beneficial. Overall a nice loop with great views. Parking next to the church or on nearby streets.

Overall very easy levada, you can go back and forth (up until the waterfall at the end of it) in 2 hours. It starts behind the church/there's signs for it. Just follow the water straight ahead. On the front-left side of the church there's a parking lot. We parked a 2 minute walk away by a supermarket that has plenty of drinks, ice cream and snacks for the road. At the end of the levada take the stairs on the left and walk a bit forward to get a nice view of the waterfall. Then you have the option to go back or continue on a 2nd levada.

Very nice walk, weather was beautiful here. We got to the end (turn around point) - there is a path that goes around, I am unsure whether this path actually loops back, we just took the same path back as was very pretty anyway.

If you have an irrational fear of heights I'd probably advise against this hike. Though there are guard rails mostly along the route, some parts are unprotected and narrow (nothing dangerous or strenuous.

I enjoyed this hike very much. It wasn’t as busy as the other levada’s I went to during my stay at Madeira. Very scenic route, quite an easy walk. Definitely worth a trip ☺

Great hike. Beautiful scenery. The cave and waterfall are pretty awesome. The lower part has guard rails most of the way but the upper has some unprotected areas. However, I have a fear of heights and I was able to get it done.

Would not recommend with children or dogs.

Hike takes 2 hrs. Not sure where people are getting 4 hrs from. Maybe if it's really busy.

Easy hike, under 10km, mostly guarded with rails. Most people find it difficult to find the beginning of the hike, which is behind the church and up the stairs and turn left and you are on the trail. Great picnic spot at the end with concrete table and chairs and barbecue facilities with a view of the waterfall.

Amazing, simple but beautiful levada walk. Started with the moinho route along caminho das pedras street. Definitely recommend. Be careful with small children as the guardrails are sometimes missing. Did it running 8km in just over an hour and 122m ascent.

Best hike we did in Madeira.
Essential information:
2-3 hours
Starting point: behind the church
20 car parking places
Very easy to walk, not steep, don’t forget to take some lights with you because you need to go through a tunnel

Except PR1 and PR9 this is the best "Levada" in Madeira ;) I advise you you to park near the church and the trails start right in it's back with a couple stairs, it is very hard to miss. You even have some public free WC if you need to use before starting.

Do the Levada do Minho and then after the Waterfall and Picnic park in the end (after crossing the dryish river) you continue on the dirt road and cross the river again to you right to enter the Levada Nova, you that one to come back and it is right there that you can find the Highlight of this path. A huge waterfall that you can walk under. Amazing!

I highly recommend this easy trip. I found it better to other levada tours, as this is more open to valley and you can enjoy the view. We went from Ponta de Sol and started the "lower level" levada do Moinho and returned back by Levada Nova, which is approx 100 metres above the Moinho levada. There is very nice waterfall in the middle.

It was this levada who convinced me to do more like these...loved it as a beginner in hikes....

Really easy trial to pass, ending with beautiful waterfall. Strongly recommended to go back using levada nova, a little bit more challenging, including going through the tunnel and undergoing waterfall. Astonishing view while passing the trial, 9km, 4 hours needed
