Horses In The Sun

Wonderful experience! We had a 2 hours ride through breathtaking landscape. The horses are very gentle and willing and farm with all its animals is beautiful. Milton was very nice and had many stories to tell about the local plants and animals. Definitely would recommend the place - suitable for experienced riders and beginners as well. Thank you!

I drove my motorhome from France through Spain and as an experienced rider my dream was to ride in the beautiful forests in Portugal, however I found many stables south couldn’t be bothered to reply to emails or answer the phone! I saw the sign on the road, pulled over, called and upon answering they said drive to the farm and actually took me riding on my own an hour later. I cannot express my gratitude enough for fitting me in at such short notice. Milton gave me Sunshine, who was fun and forward going and was chatty giving me explanations on plants, Cork trees, riding past stone buildings and after the stress of the last two weeks travelling 2,500km I absolutely felt fulfilled and thrilled! This lovely family and their well kept establishment, in a spectacular rural setting was absolutely what I needed.

I'm not sure where to begin and how to show gratitude towards this family farm nestled into the hills near Aljezur Portugal. Ossie, Manny, and Milton (and their dog Gloria) welcomed us onto their land to ride horses to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had signed up to ride to the sea and back which would take roughly 4-5 hrs. I'd never ridden English style before but they were so kind to give me tips. The horses were gorgeous and the bond between them and their owners is a loving one full of mutual respect. Manny led my friend and I through some farmland, stunning trails, ruins, villages, and to the coast. Riding among sheep, goats, cattle, and cobblestones. We stopped for a picnic lunch made by his mom Frances (the carrot cake was to die for) and finished the ride to share a beer back at the ranch and play with all the animals. We left so happy and fulfilled. I'll never forget this farm and the experience of riding along the coast on their beautiful horses. I can't recommend them enough and I don't think I will ever forget that day. Extra special thanks to Manny for answering all of our questions about the landscape and the history of the area.

I agree with all the other top reviews: Horses in the Sun is a wonderful family operation with healthy, beautiful, well-trained horses. It was easy to schedule a date via email, I was warmly greeted when I arrived and had an absolutely fabulous experience. Manny was a wonderful guide. I didn’t realize that besides a day of riding, I’d also get a wonderful discussion on history and landscapes and ruins and farms and cork trees …. I learned SO MUCH!! Plus…. The gorgeous scenery! The view of the ocean from the cliffs took my breath away. It was the highlight of my trip to Portugal. They have ten horses and can customize your day to accommodate all ages and abilities. There just aren’t enough words to express how enjoyable it was to be there.

Milton was very friendly from the start. We spoke on the phone and made an appointment for a ride the next day. The horses were well taken care of and Milton could tell a lot about all the animals and the area and taught us a thing or two. Very educational and fun.

The owners of the farm were very flexible with regards to our group size, time and day! Booking it was super easy! 👌
Also the way is well directed with signs along the way so you don't take a wrong turn 😉
When we arrived, the horses were already ready, and Milton, one of the owners introduced us to them and helped us up onto the horse.
The horses were super calm along the right while Milton gave us stories and explanation about local plants, farming and nature! Very interesting!
We went for the 2 hour ride which was just enough for us beginners!
Definitely would come back!

We had such a beautiful trail ride through the forest and the eucalyptus trees. The guide was very pleasant and gave good instructions during the ride. It was very nice place. The horses seemed taken very good care of and the guide knew about their different moods and personalities. I highly recommend Horses in the Sun if you want to have a Portuguese horseback riding experience!

The best combination of terrain, guide service and horses I have experienced on a paid trail ride!

Manny was knowledgeable of the wildlife, flora and history of the area. Guest quarters were clean and cozy. Friendly hosts and great area if you enjoy being off the beaten path.

Looking forward to booking another trip for longer than 2 days!

We found that the horses are well trained, calm and well looked after. We appreciated Mani's facts about the local area, the pace of the entire walk and the chosen trail, special because of it's lush wilderness. Good for beginners and more experienced riders. Highly recommended it!

I can only warmly recommend to go on a day ride with them. I had a wonderful day, riding through beautiful landscapes and along an amazing beach! Awesome day! Fantastic Experience

What a fantastic place! I visited with my daughter and another friend we met at the Russo Surf Camp. Beautiful horses in a truly spectacular place. The views were amazing. Manny and Milton shared a lot of discussion with us about the area, history and our location on the hillside. The horses were brilliant, not your usual kick-a-long and they enjoyed a good gallop but also knew where to stop! We will definately return 😊

I booked the 2 hours ride and had a great time. It was a private tour, that perfectly fitted my skills. The guide was very friendly and shared lots of interesting information about the area/surroundings. The horses were well trained, calm and seemed to be taken good care of. Definitely an experience I will not forget and can deeply recommend.

Me and my friend went for a 1 hours trek. The views we had we're just breathe taking. The horses we went out on we're just amazing and so gentle. Everyone was so friendly 😁🤠

Amazing! The ranch is beautiful, totally surrounded by Aljesur wilderness. Ten fantastic horses and a galaxy of paths to explore! The range of excursions is 1 up to 6 hours or arrangements with owners. Any level. Remember: only cash, no credit card

Fantastic experience on one of their longer rides to Bordeira beach. Beautiful countryside and villages on the way to the beach, with stunning views as we made our descent to the beach itself. Had a few lovely gallops along the beach, splashing through the water as it came in our path. Truly exhilarating. I rode Flecha, a lovely bay mare that knew her job well. Forward, but not “hot”, which was perfect for me. This is on my short list of rides to do again! Would recommend to any of my horse friends. For reference, I’m an amateur eventer and thoroughly enjoyed this ride.

Amazing tour with the horses. So amazing, that we did it two times during our stay at Lagos. You can tell the horses are really well taken care off, which is very important for us. They have lots of space to chill on the mountains.

I had a little bit of experience riding a horse, when i was a kid, so it was a looong time ago. My boyfriend never rode a horse before, but he enjoyed it so much. We did some trotting in the hills. Manny also gives a lot of interesting information about the surroundings :) Thanks Manny & Milton! Hope Eclipse is doing better now.

Im so happy I found this wonderful stable during my holiday. I first did the long beach ride, and then came back for more a few days later for a shorter mountain tour with my friend who was on a horse for the first time. Manny is an excellent guide, the environment is beautiful, and horses are energetic and healthy. Highly recommended!
