Vera Cruz Porto Downtown Hotel

We had a very pleasant time staying in this hotel. The price is extremely good for its wonderful location. From the balcony, we had a grand view of the beautiful Aliados avenue. The hotel staff has been helpful and went above to ensure us a good time here in Porto. We would definitely consider staying at this hotel again in the future.

This is a great value hotel in a really good location to explore the city whilst not being too much in the "tourist areas". The highlight is how friendly and courteous the staff are. The hotel itself is smaller than it may appear from the photos and is a little dated in terms of the interior, but this adds a certain charm and cosiness to it which definitely turns it into a positive overall. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that, but the bar on the top floor is worth a visit to enjoy the evening on the terrace/balcony with a Vinho do Porto.

There's much negative feedback about this hotel and I just cannot understand why!

Ok, this is a 2* hotel but it feels like it is missing at least 1 star and believe me, in some respects it is actually better than some 3 and even 4 star hotels!

Staff? Absolutely fantastic, happy, cheerful, helpful, multilingual and I cannot thank them enough for their service.

Room? Just look at the pictures! Clean, renovated, spacious with a gorgeous bathroom and a massive bed. What else do you want from a hotel room? Unless you're going to spend 20hrs per day in it, it is just great.

location? Oh don't even think you can find any better location! There is absolutely everything just in walking distance - metro, taxi, bus, markets, attractions, shopping avenue, restaurants, pubs, parkings and the list goes on and on.

And there is this 9th floor patio with an amazing view.

This hotel really is unbeatable value for money. if you can live a few days without your stupid saunas, butlers and caviar, you should not be disappointed.

If you do not find this place outstanding value the problem lies with you. The rooms are small but tidy, well equipped and spotless. The Bathroom was pristine with a walk in shower. The breakfast was varied, plentiful and entirely adequate. The staff were friendly, efficient and professional. The situation is absolutely perfect

The location is perfect to discover the city. Really close to the metro, also the desk attention is really good

Booked this because of the great price and reviews. We stayed 5 nights and it worked out at £58 per night with breakfast. You can't argue with that. Hotel is right in the heart of the city and is central to everything. Ten minute walk from Trindade station. (central hub). Easy to reach on the metro from the airport via Trinade station. Ten minutes to Livraria Lello. Also great places to eat within 5 mins walk. Breakfast cost us two euros each per night with the rate we got and it far exceeded expectations. Staff are lovely, especially the reception staff. Room was cleaned daily and was done to a high standard. Room was big, bed, comfortable. Bathroom huge and shower hot with good pressure. Hotel had a few tired spots , worn carpet in well used areas and room had a couple of fittings loose. But for the price it was an exceptional stay. We stayed in room 802. Great views and a balcony. Some noise from breakfast room above us, but we were up early anyway, so not an issue. Higher floor meant less street noise so we gained from this I think. Slept well every night.

This is a 2 star hotel with a very good rate! Located right on the main street and close to different attractions, restaurants and train station. Cozy, comfortable and very helpful staff. Filipa was our main point of contact at the hotel since she was at the reception everyday and make our 2 days at Vera Cruz hotel very pleasant. Buffett breakfast was included from 7 to 10 am and attended by 2 girls from Venezuela very attentive and always smiling (not very common nowadays). Our room was on the 7th floor very spacious with 2 balconies and the only room with a private terrace where you can have a drink while relaxing enjoying the view of the plaza with its gigantic Christmas tree! Location is ideal for a morning stroll and very close to everything. Remember reviews are very subjective and only reflect the way of traveling of the person who stayed at the place reviewed. I been traveling for more than 50 years and visited the 5 continents and over 40 countries. So, you can take my review as a good one.

Perfect location. Do no expect luxury, but the rooms are clean and the staff is helpful. Can't ask for more from a budget hotel.
