Restaurante Sabor a Fado

Lovely family run business. Mum is the boss, daughter, cousin and uncle sing, brother and family friend play guitar and the goddaughters are in the kitchen!
We had limpets and bread for starter and chicken skewer and tuna on the hot stone for main. The most delicious caramel soft cake for pud. All very tasty.
The singing was a fantastic experience, split into 4 sections. The music was all around as the singers were also the waiting staff! The explanation of fado at the end was also appreciated.

I cannot reccomend this place enough. My fiancé and I came here on our last night in Madeira and it was genuinely the best night of what was already an amazing trip. This place is reservation only unless you're very lucky and there was a no-show. I reccomend getting there a little before the start time to get settled, order food, and talk to the people around you. The service was amazing, conversations were great, the food astounding, and the singing beautiful. This is a family run restaurant where the staff are also the performers and do the most impressive multi-tasking I've ever seen. Don't worry if they are in the middle of serving food when they start to sing, I promise you will still be thoroughly entertained. Thank you so much to the family there for welcoming us and creating such a memorable experience. We will be sure to come again on our next visit to the island.

The steak on a hot stone and the rice were spectacular. The fried maize was great.

The fado was amazing and pulled the whole experience together. The family who owns the place (father, mother, and daughter) sang beautifully.

An experience I am not about to forget. Great food, extremely warm welcome and an atmosphere that is out of this world. They sit you at large tables of eight, so I guess who you are seated next to could affect the quality of your experience. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Sabor e Fado came highly recommended on all platforms, however despite researching, no written review accurately captured the warmth, atmosphere, and truly unique experience you are privileged to have when dining there. Here the music and its tradition is held in high regard and you are both audience and diner, bearing witness to this important aspect of Portuguese culture. We left a family and with Fado in our hearts.

We come from Greece and it was really something different for us. We heard Fado for first time.
Sylvia and Nestor have special voices and they were serving us and same time singing.

If you are in Funchal it is a must visit great welcome, food, music and singing. You need need to book in advance as a small venue with a great atmosphere.

This is a famely restaurant, that make good food and it is the best place to listen to FADO when you eat.
This is a restaurant that local people also go to, not only tourists.

A hidden gem tucked away in old Funchal, this talented family serves you dinner while taking turns singing fados. Reservations are required since there are about ten tables. Food is delicious. I had beef on a stone.

Good food. Great, super friendly and welcoming, joyful service. And, an amazing experience. Skilled singers will serve you food as they are singing the very emotive Fado songs with great guitar accompanying them while they sing.
You might get a friendly ssshhh reminder if you are too loud while the singing and guitar playing is on.

Food was exceptional! Authentic Portuguese cuisine served on a hot stone to cook our tuna and steak was surely a memorable dining experience. To top it off, we were seated in a front of a live group of Fado musicians and singers! They were all so talented and they even sent out a special dessert & sang to celebrate my birthday! A great place to end the busy day. At 19.30 the lights went out and the music starts. Menu was short and sweet for the occasion, we had the mussels, grilled chorizo and local bread. It seems like a family business and the songs were setting beautifully. Waiters have special skills and it was such a nice surprise.

What a phenomenal experience! We were welcomed so whole heartedly into their family restaurant, and with great food, and the most spectacular voices singing live fado! Wow is all we can say! A must visit place in Funchal!

Expensive but ABSOLUTELY worth it.

The fado made me cry, the food was excellent: this one is a small and truly authentic restaurant, definitely to see in Funchal.
