Great hike that is relatively easy with way less tourists. If you start here, you head down the stairs first (quite a lot of stairs) and then reach the gorgeous waterfall. The rest of the way beside the levada is extremely flat/easy. You will hit a few viewpoints along the way. Also some other cool spots with waterfalls and bridges. Once you hit the end, you do have to walk on the road (about 4km) to get back to the parking area. Visit Fanal on the way to see the gorgeous trees.

Very easy and beautiful walk with lots of stairs at the beginning. I would recommend checking the weather report beforehand because the path is quite muddy and some parts could be flooded after heavy rainfall. You could follow the mountain bike trail back to Fanal. It's better and nicer than walking along the road. There's a crossing path near the end. It's not hard to find. If you follow the red and white markers, you'll end up in a picnic area. The path continues at the corner to your right. Don't follow the big road on the right side. The path ends directly at the lake in Fanal.

Great hike that you can easily combine with Fanal to form a loop (~11km total, will require walking on the road for about 15min).
The hike is relatively easy, with lots of stairs down at the beginning of the trail.
The first part will be mainly walking in the forest next to a levada, you'll then join Fanal back by taking a bit of road, where you'll get insane views of the area!
Loved it!

Great hike, quite easy through the damp but cool forest (in the August) just above the clouds, following a levada with a few nice waterfalls and little ravines allong the way. Only tricky bit is the beginning with lots of steps down, but nothing too strenuous, would be perhaps more challenging if you needed to ascend them.

Amazing walk, doing counterclockwise you get stairs at the end, but avoid walking uphill on road. Or use some parallel trails to go down instead of going on road. And trail is muddy, get proper shoes. Loop around 11km/3hrs.

Excellent hiking area. Take the tram up and hike down.

I would absolutely recommend doing this levada on the day you visit Fanal. It is not very popular with tourists so you'll barely meet anyone! I walked it with a local who showed me how to make it a circular route. You just need to know when to get off the levada and go uphill.

It is officially closed as some parts are in bad shape. However it is doable - I am terrified of heights and I could do it.

Beautiful walk through the natural reserve and the typical Madeira Laurisilva forest. The trail is easy to walk but can be slippery when wet and it is almost always wet, due to the clouds hanging low usually. You can start at the upper parking place, but since it is a walk up the tar road back, you should park another car first at the exit of the Pr14 Levada hike, or alternatively walk the Levada back. The waterfall is awesome and provides a good opportunity to rest paired with an astonishing experience. Recommended

An amazing walk/hike for those who enjoy exercising. The walk can be very exhausting if you start from the wrong direction! (Start your journey by walking down the path with stairs).

Tip: Bring food/snacks and water for your walk. Stay hydrated! Bring some good shoes with grip, for the muddy/slippery areas.

The route takes approx. 3-6 hours depending on your speed, experience, health, physical condition and purpose.

Beautiful Levada hike through lush greens. We started in Fanal and walked down to Ribeira de Janal. The beginning has a lot of steps down but then after about 1.5km it levels out.

Fantastic walk. Pretty easy if you have a moderate fitness. We did it slow and it took about 4 hours including a lunch stop. Would recommend parking at the bottom of the Navada and walking up it. You get a nice gentle walk to start, then about 6km or so you go up a steep step for 1.2km. You then come out on the road and the walk back is all down hill. We saw others going the other way, and felt like ending the walk on a 4km up hill walk on tarmac was not the best way to end.

Very nice walk, not very hard but I would not recommend going there after or during a rain because it's a bit difficult and dangerous. But it's not crowded and you can enjoy the peace and quiet while breathing the freshest air my lungs have ever experienced.

Brilliant experience; atmospheric and easy walk through Laurisilva forest following the levada; slightly vertiginous walk around an escarpment, but rewarded with beautiful stream and oasis within the forest before climbing back to the road.

a very beautiful and peaceful hike, if you want to enjoy Madeira's nature and beauty and not meet many people, this hike is for you. This levada is long enough, if you start from the Fanal forest, at the beginning there will be a lot of stairs down, then at the end you will have to choose whether to return by road, which is a faster way, but in the heat of the sun it is a very tiring journey, or to return again by the same route and overcome the same stairs only up 😊

Great trail. Totally different to some of the other Levada trails, as it's entirely through forest. Almost entirely flat too, just one section of steps towards the end.

Great walk with beautiful waterfall after massive descend, worth going. It's strange that this walk was not busy at all during our hike at the beginning of the March

Easy walk, finishing with neverending stairs. It is better to go back the same route as return is possible only along road.
