PR5 Vereda das Funduras

Very beautiful and peaceful forest trail in continuation of the much busier PR10 levada walk. The main downside is that it ends in a less touristic part of Maroços, about an hour of walking on the road from Machico. The walk may be more pleasant if diverted towards Vereda do Larano, reaching either Porto da Cruz or Machico if willing to walk for longer.

The beginning of PR5 track from Portela to Marocos wasn't very exciting, but after entering the forest it was really beautiful. The track ends with hundreds of stairs - don't miss the point where you can enter Levada de Marocos and go around the town.

I really enjoyed this walk. Lots of forest so initially not the views you might expect from Madeira but it was made up for in the beauty of the forest.

Note: When you get to the big No Entry sign, ignore it and keep going! (is for vehicles only)

The last part as others have mentioned is incredibly steep and a great challenge on the way back :) or you could always get a taxi (Fernando is an enterprising chap with a big sign at the end of the walk saying to call him for a taxi 😂) but that would defeat the point for me. We stopped at the snack bar in Maroços for something to energise us for the walk back up the mountain.

Piękna trasa, która wybraliśmy po wielkiej burzy w poprzednim dniu. Jest łatwa i bezpieczna, przecina się z kilkoma trasami biegowymi i rowerowymi. Sama trasa właściwą przebiega w pięknym lesie i jest bardzo przyjemna.

Fajna, łatwa trasa. Warto podjechać do Portela i iść w kierunku Maroços. A to dlatego, ze na końcu szlaku jest 2 km zejścia w dół, gdzie pokonujemy ok 500 m przewyższenia.
Cały szlak płaski i zacieniony drzwiami. Widoków nie ma, ale za to jest niesamowity klimat dżungli.
Nam się bardzo podobało. Miła odmiana w stosunku do szlaków pełnych pięknych widoków. Tutaj można skupić się na ciszy, rozmowie i wszechobecności natury.
Warto mieć na uwadze, oznaczenie nie jest idealne i są miejsca gdzie można na chwile zabłądzić.

Piękna trasa, początkowo przez szeroką drogę polną potem las iglasty następnie w otoczeniu paproci drzewiadtych ( feto). Na końcu mały budynek centrum ekologicznego i ławki z widokiem.

PR5 : la randonnée fait 8km aller (ou 8.7km, ce n'est pas clair, ça dépend des panneaux ! Mon application Visorando semble plutôt donner 8km cependant), soit 16km aller retour.

Les 6.5 premiers kms ne présentent pas de difficultés. Ce n'est pas tout plat mais globalement peu de dénivelé.
Quand vous arriverez près d'une maison avec quelques tables de pique-nique, les choses changent. Préparez-vous à une descente assez raide jusqu'à l'arrivée, donc gardez des forces pour le retour !

A noter, peu après la maison en question, vous verrez un panneau indiquant Portela à 6.7km et Maroços à 2km (voir une de mes photos), de là quelques marches en rondin de bois. En bas de celle-ci, ne prenez pas tout droit (comme je l'ai fait moi à l'aller) mais prenez le virage en épingle à cheveux pour rester sur le PR (il n'y a aucune indication). Ceci dit, si vous vous trompez comme moi, ce n'est pas très grave, on récupère le chemin plus loin.

Bardzo łatwa trasa. Polecam każdemu. Łatwy dojazd do Marocos autokarem SAM z Funchal.

Fajna vereda do pochodzenia. Nie jest zbyt wymagająca. Polecam drogę w stronę marocos nie na odwrót ;-)

Splendido panorama! Sentiero PR5 facile adatto a tutti senza particolare preparazione fisica, si può scegliere la distanza che si vuole percorrere. Consigliate sempre scarpe da trekking!

Vereda très large bordée par une levada parfaitement accessible aux petits comme aux grands avec de jolis points de vue sur Porto da Cruz. Possibilité de prolonger la randonnée dans la forêt de Laurissilva en direction des Maroços.

Laurisilva no seu melhor aconselho com as devidas medidas de segurança e equipamento. Atencao o tempo muda rapidamente mas é um dos trajectos mais bonitos.
