Levada do Caniçal

I would say this is in between easy and moderate. Beautiful trail and views. Best to start at Caniçal and hike down to Porto da Cruz. Leave cars at the trail head and in Porto da Cruz. Or get dropped off and picked up. Around 12 kilometers. Enjoy.

Beautiful views! Quite steep in some areas, I would say its an activity at your own risks!

Relaxed levada without many tourists. Vegetation quite one-sided and dry compared to other levadas on the island. I recommend walking to the end of the levada to Ponta do Bode, a very beautiful landscape there

Beautiful, not crowded, easy trail

We walked the trail from Canical to levado do Canical. It was such a rewarding walk. There's lots of uphill but the train is good so just pace yourself and hydrate yourself. Super beautiful spot to have a picnic! If you're planning a decent down to Machico beach, highly recommend you take the off road path through the mountain. Not possible to do with a car, must be down on foot. There are stairs in the past that lead right into the mountain and all the way around with absolutely stunning views!!

It was our fourth levada walk on Madeira. Not many people there,which can be nice. Views are nice, not so much like "inside" of the island,but already nice. Somewhere you go thru the houses, gardens of the locals, which shows you how the life is going-something different from other levadas. Recommended!

Beautiful levada with great coastal views, there are barriers in high places but would not recommend for children as there are some bits that are very uneven and the path is a bit overgrown in places.

Good trail! I suggest to coming back by other trail through mountains because it's amazing experience

There is often confusion about this levada. This path is only Levada. Vereda de Lorana are a path that branches off of the Levada. The entrance to Levada starts from the civilian houses.
