Best wine shop in Funchal. Good pairing of wines and cheeses and tapas. Very surprising suggestions from Filipe. I understand now why the name of the shop is "wine passion".

This was the lighthouse of our trip to Madeira. We have over the years visited many fine dining restaurants including 1 and 2 Michelin star restaurants across Europe but never have we visited a place like this. It is about taste, taste, taste and then flavour, flavour, flavour. Of cause the setup cannot compete with Michelin star restaurants, but at the end it is for us all about taste and service.
The knowledge about wine, not only wines from Portugal and their grapes but knowledge about grapes and wines across the world was impressive.
When you enter the wine shop, you will be interviewed about the type of wine you like and based on that, the owner will suggest a wine. In case you want to eat which we strongly recommend you do, there is a menu you can chose from, but don’t do that, listen to the owner because depending on the wine you have chosen he will make a suggestion of food that suits your choice of wine.
The best we ever have tried on a vacation in the more than 30 years where we every year travels to Southern Europe. If we could this wine shop should have 10 stars and not only the maximum of 5 stars.

This place is everything you could possibly want in a wine bar. They have an incredible selection of Portuguese wines and all to try by the glass. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and takes tremendous pleasure in showing his customers all that Portugal has to offer in terms of wine. To top it all off, they have a fabulous selection of cheeses and charcuterie - again, all from Portugal. We could have stayed there for many more hours just chatting to the owner and sampling more wine. All oenophiles visiting Madeira must pay this shop/bar a visit!

This is an excellent place to learn more about Portuguese wine! You pay by the glass and is not committed to buy anything more than you drink. We tasted a white and red wine recommended by the host after giving our preferences and was very surprised. Highly recommended for anybody that loves wine and would like to taste Portuguese wine.

This wine bar was a special find. My wife and I did a 5 and 10 year vintage tasting of the 4 grapes grown on the island. The wine were paired with nuts and dried fruit to compliment each wine. Fantastic! We ordered a cheese plate and had some unique, yet nice flavors. The owner was extremely helpful with our experience. I wish I could post a photo....

If you're looking for an elegant and erudite madeira tasting, look no further. As a novice, I greatly appreciated how simply and tastefully the owner explained the wines and how to pair them. The cheeses were excellent and the wines were magnificent.

He also told me that I was a "zen" taster, taking my time, which made me feel great because my usual move when solo is to down all the food and drink in front of me faster than it can be delivered. But he put me at ease, and I felt free to relax and really enjoy a rare and extraordinary experience.

A real gem. Had the pleasure of grabbing a plate of cheese and a few glasses of wine there. Felipe, the owner, is an excellent host and generous with his expertise, which impressed even me as someone who has worked in the hospitality trade for a long time! Was recommended a couple of wines to go with the cheese board I ordered, both impressed, one so much I splashed out on a whole bottle. A must if you are in Funchal!

My husband and I were looking for a quality wine bar to taste good portugal wines and bring a few bottles back to the house we are renting. Filipe was amazing and made us discover delicious wines, at reasonable prices and clearly off the beaten track. Look no further for the best wine bar in town and let Filipe be your guide with delicious pairing nibbles ! We will be back for sure !

An absolute must visit wine bar when visiting Madeira. The owner is superbly charming, he made our visit incredible by creating a Portuguese wine tasting unique to us by creating it so it matched our wine preferences. This place really knows its wine and cheeses! What a hidden gem!

Only wines from Portugal at this worthwhile wine bar across from Santa Caterina Park-Garden. The super-kind & professional owner, Filipe, selects wines from smaller, independent wine-growers, with some organic & biodynamic, and is a winemaker himself. (He's also an expert in and aficionado of the fortified Madeira wines, and guests can drink these, too.)
He listens to your wine preferences and the suggests some to try—by the glass or the bottle (he also sells bottles here retail). Loved the wine he poured me, and the little bruschetta that matched perfectly.
Also : Filipe speaks Portuguese, English, French and German fluently.

Felipe gave us the history of madeira wine during our 5, 10, and 15 tasting. Paired with cheeses and nuts, great place to hang and learn if unsure. About 200 wines to choose from as well, give this pace a visit as Blandy's seemed a little too touristy for my taste.

This is a great place to spend an afternoon sampling some fine wines. Filipe will help you chose a wine that is appropriate for your taste and budget. There's no pretension or attitude here, just sipping fine wine. The appetizers are simple but delicious. We had a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir from Portugal which was the best Pinot I've ever tasted - smooth, silky, deep fruit/berry notes. Our appetizer to go with it was Presunto, figos e parmesão (prosciutto slices with fig and parmesan covered in olive oil and grilled on a sliced baguette). It was fantastic. I would highly recommend Paixao do Vinho _Passion for Wine for a treat you will remember.

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. We basically let him choose everything for us - both wine and cheese - and it was delicious!!! He’s a very thoughtful and attentive host who made sure we ate and drank at a good pace!

Perfect service by buying Madeira wine. Wines open to taste upfront, reasonable prices being worth the wine. German speaking and very friendly. This is a place you have to visit if you like Madeira wine

My wife and I had a great lunch, sampling Madeira wines, charcuterie and delicious cheeses. A fantastic experience, and we both appreciated the curation of wines and cheeses, highly recommended.

Beautiful shop and atmosphere. The gentleman that helped us was extremely knowledgeable about the areas wines and you could tell he was genuinely interested in finding a wine we enjoyed.

Stumbled upon this gem by accident. Friendly and knowledgable host. Wonderful wines and a beautiful setting. Highly recommend a stop in to pick up a bottle for dinner or have a glass in store.
